Hold the dev ice as you would any othe r telephone wit h the antenna area pointed up and over your shoulder. Note: As wi th any ot her ra dio tr ansmitt ing device, do not tou ch the antenn a unnec essari ly when the device is switche d on.
Set up your pho ne 15 Remove th e back cover 1. With the back of the phon e facing you, press down and hold the ba ck cover la tch. 2. Sl ide the back cove r to ward t he bottom of the phone, lift up and remove.
Set up y our pho ne 16 Char ge the b atter y 1. Plug t he charger tr ansformer into a s tandard ac outlet . 2. Insert the c harger output plug into the round jack at the bottom end of the phon e. If necess ary, you ca n use a CA-44 adapter cable (1) to conne ct a char ger a nd th e phon e.
Set up your pho ne 17 ■ Turn your phone on or off 1. To turn your phone on or off, press and hold the end key for at least 3 seconds. 2. Enter the lock code, if necessary, and sele ct OK . ■ Connect the headset A compatible he adset, such as HS-5, may be purchased with your p hone or separately as an en hanceme nt.
Set up y our pho ne 18 Use the contact s list 1. In the standby mode, scroll down to display your contacts. 2. Scroll to the cont act you wish to dial, press th e call key. To view de tails of the entry, selec t Details . Use the last diale d number 1.
Set up your pho ne 19 Answer a call w ith th e key pad locked To answer a call with the keypad locked, simply press the call key or select Answe r . During the call, all features function a s normal. When you end or reject the call, the ke ypa d aut omat ica lly rel ock s.
Set up y our pho ne 20 ■ Key g ua r d With keyg uard, you can lock the keypad to preven t keys from being pres sed accidentally. Remember to lock your phone keypad to prevent accidental calls. If the keypad is locked, it unlocks when you rec eive a call.
Text en try 21 3. T ext entry You can use two meth ods for entering text and numbers: standard mode and predictive text mode. ■ Standard mode Standard mode is the only way to enter te xt into the cont acts list, and to renam e caller groups. Text (Abc) • P ress a key once to insert th e first letter on the key, twice for the second letter, etc.
Text en try 22 Punctu ation an d specia l characte rs While at an y text ent ry scree n, press * to di splay spec ial charact ers (press and hold * if predictive tex t is on). Press * again to cycle through all available characte rs. Scroll to navigate th rough the list of speci al characters.
Text en try 23 ■ Change case and mode Press # to switch between uppercase, lowercase, and sentence case, as well as standar d and pre dicti ve text modes. C ase and m ode are indicat ed by th e foll owing icons that appear in the upper left of the display screen.
Contacts 24 4. Contacts The con tact s list can ho ld up to 5 00 cont acts with multip le num bers an d text not es for ea ch co ntact . The amount of nu mbers and te xt e ntrie s that you c an save may vary, depending on length and the total number of entries in the contacts list.
Contacts 25 3. Enter the na me, and select OK > Done . When you enter a number, you can enter pause and wait codes into your dialing string. See "Insert dialing codes," p. 25. Save a numb er ( only) 1. In the standby mode, enter the phone number you wish to save.
Contacts 26 Save mult iple number s You can save different type s of phone numbers per con tact. The first number you save for any entry is autom atically set as the defa ult, but the default number ca n always be changed. 1. In the standby mode, scroll down to display your list of contacts.

Contacts 28 ■ Modify contact settings In the standby mode, select Menu > Contacts > Settings and the setting you wish t o ch ange : Scrolling view —Select Normal name list , Name and number , Large name list , or Name and image view. Memory status —View the amount of phone memory used as well as the amount of phone memory available.
Contacts 29 Note: Using voice tags may be difficult in a noisy environme nt or during an emergency , so you should not rely solely upon voice dialing in all circumsta nces. Assign a voice tag To use voice dialing, you must first assign a voice tag to a number.
Contacts 30 Delete a vo ice tag 1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Contacts > Voice tags . 2. Scroll to the voice tag you wa nt to delete, and s elect Dele te .

Call History 32 5. Call Hi st ory Call history stores info rmatio n about t he last 30 mis sed, 30 recei ved, or 30 dial ed calls. It also adds the total duration of all calls . When the num ber of calls excee d the maximu m, the most recent c all replaces the oldest.
Call History 33 ■ Time of call Y o u c a n m a k e o r r e c e i v e u p t o f i v e c a l l s t o o r f r o m t h e s a m e n u m b e r a n d v i e w t h e time each cal l occurr ed. Your clock must b e set for thi s featur e to work accur ately. 1.

Messaging 35 6. Messaging Your phone is capable of creating and receiving text, multimedia, voice and minibrowser messages. Check with your service provider to see what messaging is available for you. ■ Text messages Text messaging is a n etwork service.

Messaging 40 ■ Multimedia messages Multimedia messaging is a network se rvice. See "Ne twork service s," p. 6 for more information. If your wireless service provider supports this feature, you can send and receive multimedia mess ages to comp atible phones th at are also s ubscribed to the serv ice.
Messaging 41 Outbox —Chec k for outgoing multimed ia messages. Multimed ia messages are automatic ally stored in th e Outbox as they are s ent. I f you r servi ce is interr upted while sendi ng, th en mes sag es are s tored in the Outbox until another delivery attempt is m ade.
Messaging 42 Not e: When se nding messages, your device may display the words Multimedia me ssage sent . This is an indication that th e message ha s been sent by your device to the message center number programm ed into your device. This is not an indication that th e message has been received a t the intended destina tion.
Messaging 43 Insert > Im age , Sound clip , or Vi deo c lip —Inse rt an image, sound cli p, or video clip file from you r My album s . Open the desired folder, and select the file and Options > Insert.

Messaging 45 Dele te a sing le mu ltime dia mess age To delete a single multimedia message , you need to open it first. 1. In the standby mode, select Men u > Messaging > M ultimedia m sgs. 2. Select the fold er containing the m ultimedia message you wish to delete .
Messaging 46 The default set ting of the multime dia message se rvice is generall y on. The appearan ce of a multimedia message may vary depending on the rec eiving device. You can ch oose to re ceive all m essages, to bl ock all mes sages, or to rece ive mess ages only when you are in the service provider’s hom e network.
Messaging 47 Create distribution lists 1. In the standby mode, select Menu > Messaging > Dis tribution lists > New list . If you create a second distribu tion list, select Menu > Messaging > Distribution lists > Opt ions > Cr eate new l ist .

My Albums 52 8. My Albums You can save pictures, video clips, recordings, music files, and ringing tones to folders in the My albums , and add new folders to the ones alre ady there. You can download images and tones using multi media messaging, text messaging, mobile Internet sites, or Nokia PC Suite.
My Albums 53 Recordings —By default, voice recordings are saved to this folder. Receive d files —Files sent directly to your phone are stored here. Your f older s —Folders you create appear after the preset folders. To open a folder, highlight th e folder and select Open .
Shop 54 9. Shop You can use the Shop menu item to dow nload music, ringtones, images, videos, games and othe r applications. Select th e Shop > Music , Ringer , Images , Videos , Games , or Apps > Conne ct to open the browser.
Media 55 10 . M e d i a ■ Media player With Media player you can download, view, and play compatible images, audio and video files, an d animated images from a variety of sourc es. Media player plays streaming videos and audio from a network server.
Media 56 Play m usic trac ks In the standby mode, select Menu > Media > Music player . I f ther e are n o musi c files in the Music files folde r, you can select another folder before entering the Music player . The details of the first track on the default track list are shown.
Media 57 Media equalizer —The equ ali zer en hanc es t he so und q uali ty wh en us ing a h eads et (only) with the Music player by amplifying or att enuating frequency ban ds. There are fiv e pres et equa lizer se ttings ( Normal , Pop , Rock , Jazz , and Classical ) and two customizable settings.
Media 58 Channel search —To start a channel search, select and hold or . To change the radio frequency in 0.1 MHz ste ps, briefly press or . Switch off —Pres s and hold the end key to turn off the radio. Adjus t volu me —To adju st the volume level, use the vo lume key.
Media 59 ■ V oice recorder Voice recorder al lows you to make a short ( up to 3 m inutes) rec ording and sa ve it to the Recordi ngs folder or another folder in the My albums . The recorde r cannot be used when a dat a call is active. Record speech or sound 1.
Media 60 Activate a n equal izer set In the standby mode, select Menu > Media > Equalizer , and highlight the desired equalizer settin g, and select Act iv ate . Se lec t Opti ons > View to display th e equal izer set ting s. Create a cust om equaliz er set 1.

Settings 63 Ban ner Banner is a netw ork service. See "Netwo rk services," p. 6 for more information. If your wirele ss service provide r supports this feature , you can ch oose whether the display shows the operator logo or a cu stom banner, when the phone is in the standby mode.
Settings 64 War ni ng to n es —Turn warning and confirmation tones on or off Alert for —Set the phone to alert only w hen a member of a selected caller group calls.
Settings 65 Change the for mat 1. In the standby mode, select Men u > Settings > Tim e and date > Date > Date format and the format of your ch oice. 2. With Date on the display, s elect Date separ ator , and the separator of your choice. Set the au to-upda te of date and time Auto- updat e is a networ k serv ice.
Settings 66 Automatic re dial Occasio nally, you r network may experien ce heav y traffic, resulti ng in a fast busy signal when you dial. With au tomatic re dial activated, your phone redials the number, and notifies you once the network is available.
Settings 67 2. Enter your security code or lock code, and select OK . (See "S ecuri ty," p. 79.) 3. Scroll to one of the four memory locations, and selec t Options > Edit > OK > Dialing sequence .
Settings 68 For better performanc e during data calls, place the phone on a stationary surface. Do not move the phone by holding it in your hand during a data call. Settings 69 ■ Phone language Language se ttings Phone language a llows you set the la nguage of the display te xt seen on the phone. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Phone > Phone language and the language of your choice.
Settings 70 Card memory In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Phone > Memo ry status > Card name and one of the following: Free me mory —Shows the amount of pho ne memory available for file storage. Used memory —Shows the amount of phone memory cu rrently used for file storage.
Settings 71 Help text activ ation Your phone display s brief descriptions for most menu items. When y ou arrive at a feature or menu, pa use for about 15 seconds and wa it for the help text to disp lay. Scroll to page through th e full help text, if necessa ry.
Settings 72 ■ Connectivity You can co nnect the phone to a compat ible devic e using an IR con nection . You can also connect the phone to a compatible PC using IR or a USB data cable; and use the phone as a modem to enable connectivity from the PC.

Settings 74 Bluetooth c onnectivity settings You can de fine how you r phone is s hown t o other devices with Blueto oth conn ectivit y. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Connectivit.
Settings 75 To view the transferred ite m imme diately from standby mode, select Show . To view the item at a later time , select Exi t . Depending on the na ture of the item, it is saved in the appropriate menu in your phone. For example, a business card would be sa ved in Contacts , and a cal end ar note would be sav ed in Calendar .
Settings 76 Enable de fa ult mode conne ction Connec t to your PC in Default m ode to transfer phone data and files between your phone and PC using Nokia’s PC Suite. 1. Connect your PC and your phone with a CA-53 USB data cable. A notification appears on th e display that asking whi ch mode you want to s elect.

Settings 78 Lights —Choose to keep the phone lights always on, or to shut off automa tically after seve ral seconds . Select On or Automatic . Loopset A LPS-4 Loopset accessory allows your device to optimize sound quality when coupled with a hearing aid that is set to T-coil mode .
Settings 79 ■ Security To acce ss Secu rit y for the fir st time, yo u must ent er the preset lock cod e. By defaul t, the p reset loc k cod e is the las t fo ur di gits of y ou r ph one nu mber. Dep endin g on your wireless service provider, the preset lock code may be a four digit nu mber such as 1234 or 00 00.
Settings 80 Change lock code When changing the lock code, avoid using codes similar to emergency num bers such as 911 to prevent accidental dialin g of an emergency number. By default, the preset lock code is the last four digits of your phone number.
Settings 81 5. To modify the restricti on list, select from the following options: Select —Ad d numb ers to th e rest ri ct ion li st. Add restriction —Add a restriction to a n umber (unavailable if memory is full). Edit —Edit a restriction on a number.
Settings 82 Roaming option s If supported by your wireless service provider, you can se lect which roaming option you wish to use. In the standby mode, select Menu > Settin gs > Network > Roaming options and the follow ing. Home on ly —You can make and rece ive calls in your hom e area only.
Settings 83 Call for wa rding Call forwarding tells your network to redirec t incoming calls to a nother number. Call forwarding is a network service a nd may not work the same in all network s, so contact you r wireless provider for av ailability and informa tion.
Settings 84 My number selection In the standby mode, select Menu > Settings > Network services > My number selection . This feat ure i s ca rrier dep endent. ■ Restore factory settings You can rese t some of the menu settings to the ir original values.
Games & Apps 85 12. Games & Apps ■ Game s Depending on your service provider, games and other applications may be preloaded on your phone. Select ga mes In the standby mode, select Menu > Game s & Apps > Game s to display the gam es on your device.
Camera 86 13. Camera You can take photos and record video c lips wit h the built-in came ra and adjust its settings. The camera lens is on the back of the phone. The ca mera pr oduce s ph oto s in J PEG f orma t a nd vi deo c lips in H.26 3 (QCI F) f orma t.
Camera 87 2. To take a picture, pre ss the ca mera key o r select Capture to take the photo. Press the volume key displaye d her e or the scroll keys t o zoom in and out. When taking a photo, a shutter sound is heard. The phone saves the photo in th e Images folder of the My albums menu.
Camera 88 2. Select Sequence . The camera take five photos in sequ ence . After the photos are ta ken, the camera save s them to a folder in the Images fold er of th e My albums menu. ■ Record a video 1. In the standby mode, press the camera key or select Menu > Camera .

Camera 90 Camera sou nds You can turn off the camera so unds that happen whe n a picture is taken or video recorded. In the standby mode, select Menu > Camera > Options > Settin gs > Cam era sounds > On or Off . Self-timer lights You can turn off the self-timer lights that a ppear when a pictu re is taken.

Tools 92 In the standby m ode, select Menu > Tools > Alarm clock > Alarm t one and one of the following: Standard —Sele ct the defa ult alarm. Radio —Sel ect the rad io a s th e al arm . Open My albums —Selec t a tone from the My albums as the alarm.

Select Vi ew to see the list of notes for that day. To view a sp ecific note, highlight the note , and selec t View again.

Tools 96 Create note opt ions When you c reate a note, the follow ing options are available: Insert time and date —Adds t he time an d date to your note. Close —Returns you to th e notes list . Insert smile y —Inserts a sm iley into your me ssage.
Tools 97 Open to-do list In the standby mode, select Menu > Tools > To- d o li s t . You see your curr ent to-do lis t. If t here a re no to -d o task s, se lect Ad d to creat e your first to-do list note. If the re are existing to-do list note s, highlight a to-do list not e, and select View .
Tools 98 Edit priority —Chang e t he p rio ri ty t o High , Medium , or Low . Send > Send as message , Via calendar , Via infrared , or Via Bluetooth —Send the to-do list note in cal endar format (vCal), in a text me ssage, in a multimedia message, or directly to another device.
Tools 99 Note: This calculator has a limit ed accuracy and is designed for s imple calculations . Use calculator 1. In the standby mode, select Men u > T ools > Calculator . 2. Enter the first nu mber in the calcu lation. Press # for a decima l point if necess ary.
Tools 100 ■ Countdown timer The countdow n timer in your device enables you to enter a spec ific time (up to 99 hours, 59 m inutes, and 59 seconds). Whe n the time runs out, your device sounds an alarm. The countdown tim er only works when the phone is on.
Tools 101 Measure spl it or lap time Use the split time or lap time functions for activities where you need to pace yourself. 1. In the standby mode, select Men u > T ools > Stopwatch > Split timing or Lap timing > Start .
