1 1. Safety At A Glance Read these simple guidelin es before using your phone. Failure to comply with these guidelines may be dange rous or i llega l. For more detailed safety info rmation, see “I mportant Safety Info rmation” on page 8 1. Road Safe ty Comes First Don’t use a hand-hel d phone while drivi ng; park the vehicle first.
2 FCC/Industry Canada Notic e Y our phone ma y cause TV or radio i nterference (e.g. when using a telepho ne in close proximity to receiving equipm ent). The FCC/Indus try Canada can require you to stop using your telephon e if such interference c an not be e liminated.
3 2. Ge tting Connec ted Y ou’l l need to charge your batter y once your phone has been act ivated. This sect ion wil l help fam iliari ze you on how, and w hen, to ch arge your b atte ry . Attachin g your battery Simpl y place t he batter y in the groo ves on th e back of your phone.
4 Charging your new ba ttery Y our phone can be used with ei ther a r echar geable Li-Ion or NiMH battery . Note that a new battery’ s full perfo rmance is ac hieved only after two o r thre e compl ete char ge and discharg e cycl es. With your phon e on or of f, conne ct the ch arger to a standar d 120V AC outlet.
5 When is char ging comple te? When the charge ind icators stop scr olling , your phone is consi der ed full y charge d. Howev er , a slight i ncrea se in charge ma y occur if your phon e is left con nect ed to the cha rger for a whi le. This is called “tr ickle ch arge.
6 Importa nt Battery In formation • The batt ery can be ch arged and d ischarged hu ndreds of times but i t will eventu ally wear out. When the operating time (ta lk time and standb y time) is noticeab ly shorter than normal, i t is time to b uy a new batte ry .
7 3. The B asics Y ou ha ve pur chased a pow erful phone, with lots of features. Read this section for some very ba sic infor mation on how to use your phon e. A more compreh ensive descri ption of your phone is covere d in “Feature s A to Z” star ting on page 16.
8 Checking signal str ength When yo u ar e at t he star t scr een (see page 12) or in a call , the s ignal stre ngth is i ndicat ed by the indicator s on th e left side of your phone ’ s displ ay . These indicat ors scr oll as the str ength of t he sign al incr eas es and d ecre ases.
9 Dialing stor ed phone numbers View stor ed names and numbers by pressing W or V from t he st art sc reen ( see page 12) , then pr ess ó See “P hone book ” on pa ge 49 for d etails on sto ring num bers. Calling car d calls See “Ca lling card” o n page 2 7.
10 Keyguard This featur e he lps to pre vent acci dental key pr ess es (e.g. when your phon e is in yo ur poc ket , in yo ur p urse) by locking your keypad. If any keys are pressed while Keyguar d is a cti vated, Press Un lock and then * will disp lay .
11 4. Using Y our Phone The first few da ys you have yo ur ph one, play wi th it to learn how the menu and submenu system wo rks. The mor e you learn how t o acce ss these menus and submenus, the more fun you’ll have with you r phone. This section describes th e differ ent methods of using your phone menus and submenus.
12 For ex ample, pre ss Menu once. The scr oll bar appears with the first ( top) tab displayed. A differ ent tab appears each ti me you pr ess t he W or V key to move up and down thr ough the menu st ructur e. The scr oll bar w orks the same way with submenus.
13 Using shor tcuts This i s a qui ck and easy w ay t o access a menu w ithout having to scro ll through othe r menus. Press Menu , then menu number , then submenu number . Pre ss the menu and submenu numbers wi thin a coupl e of seconds of each oth er when using this method.

16 5. Featu res A to Z ABC mode This allows you to enter name s into your phone book. See “Ent ering letters and numbers” on page 3 5 . Access co des This is a se curity fea ture t hat allows you ac cess to cert ain pho ne feature s, such as the phon e lock ( page 52 ) and unlock ed ph one n umber ( page 70 ) .
17 Snoo zing Press Sn ooze . The alarm will go off again i n 10 minutes. If you l et the phone alarm fo r 1 minut e withou t pr essing a key , it stops alarming for 10 minutes then starts again. T urnin g the al arm cl ock off Press Menu 4 2 2 ( Settings - Phone sett ings - Alarm clock ), then scro ll to Off and press OK .
18 Auto matic redial Y our phone will r edial th e number you’re t rying to cal l up to 3 times afte r you hear a quick, busy si gnal. Press ô to stop t he call attempts. This fe ature at tempts to r edial num bers that ar e busy due to the wirel ess network.

27 Caller ID Calle r ID is a net work se rvice tha t can disp lay the n ame and ph one number of the person calling you, if the in - format ion is av ailabl e. Contact your serv ice pro vider fo r deta ils. If the caller ca n be iden tified , the phone ma y dis play t he calle r’s nam e and ph one num ber.
28 Note: Y ou can also re trieve the access n umber from your phone book if it has already been stored. Simply press Sear ch , then W or V to find the numb er . 7. 38 Games Y ou have four exci ting games to ch oose from in your phon e. Press Menu 6 to choose one of the following games: REMEMBER ! Y our phone must be sw itched on to use this function. Do not switch on the p hone when wirel ess phone use is prohibite d or when it m ay cause interfe rence or d anger .
39 Dice Use this to play othe r games that requir e a set of dice if one isn’t av ailabl e. Us e the Lev el option to set the number of dice, up to six. Y ou can r oll, lock, and unlock each die as many times as you wi sh. When you star t a new game, the di ce ro ll for a cou ple of seconds and then stop.

42 Lights This is one of the settings in your phone’ s Car Prof ile ( see page 53 ). Thi s fe ature determine s whet her the light s are on only wh en you u se you r phone , or if they are on at all tim es. This setting works on ly when you r phone is conne cted to a car kit.
43 4. V erify new lock c ode, pr ess OK Note: When you chan ge your lock code, make sure you stor e it in a safe place, away fro m your phon e. Avoid entering a ccess codes si milar to emerg ency number s to prevent acci dental emergenc y calls.

66 Sending options If you press Options when sending a text message, you’ll find the following choices: Send sends the message. Settings allows you to tag your messages (see below). Save wil l save your message to the Saved folder . Clear screen will clear the message scr een.
67 Reading opti ons Press Options while a text message is di splayed to access the following r eading options: Read next allows you to r ead the next message.
68 If a phone number appears in the mess age you recei ved, it’ s used as the default for the r eply you’re sending. This can be rep laced by another number , if you wish. Receiving a pag e Y our phone displays Message r eceived . The message r eads Call: , followed by the name or number of the person who paged you.

70 Touch to ne length This fe ature d etermines the length of each touc h tone when they ar e sent aut omatical ly . Short sets the tone length to .1 second. 78 Rapid Cigar ett e Lighter Cha rger (L CH-9) Y ou can ch arge your phone’ s batte ry fr om your vehicl e battery by using the Ra pid Cigar ette Lighter Charger (LCH- 9). Y ou can also us e this lightwe ight c harger with the Compac t Desktop Char ging Stand (DCH-9) .

80 7. Tr ouble sho otin g What if char ging fails? If Not charging is displ ayed, c harging is suspen ded. Make sur e the battery is connected to an appro ved charging device and that the battery is at r oom temperatur e. Extreme temper atures, hot or col d, can aff ect your battery’ s performance and pr event charging.
81 8. Reference Informa tion Important Saf ety Information T raf fic Safety Do not use a hand-held tele phone while driving a vehicle. If using a hand-held p hone park the ve hicle before conv ersing. Always secure the p hone in it s holder; do not place the phone on the passenger seat or wher e it can br eak loose in a collision or sudde n stop.
82 Other Medical Devi ces Operation of any radio tra nsmitting equipment, including cellu lar phones, may interfere with th e functionality of inadequate ly protected medica l devices.
83 For vehi cles equipped w ith an ai r bag, remember t hat an air bag inflates with great force. Do not pl ace objects, including both installe d or portable wireless equip ment, in the area over th e air bag or in the air bag deployment ar ea.
