[ 7 ] Welcome LPS-3 Mobile Inductive Loopse t The LPS-3 loopset is a Nokia accessory designed to make the 3 300 series phone more accessible to hearing-aid user s. The LPS-3 loopset is also compatible with the Nokia 8200- and 8800-series digital ph on es.
[ 8 ] 1 Connect the TTY/TDD via cable to the HDA-9 adapter . 2 Plug the HDA-9 adapter into the connector on th e bottom of your phone, as shown in the illu stration. 3 Press Menu 4-4-4-1 ( Settin gs > Acc essory setti ngs > TTY/TDD > Use TTY ).

[ 1 1 ] Set up your phone 3 Set up y our phone Before you use your ph one, you need to : • Charge the battery. • Connect any ac ce ssories you want to use. • Adjust a few phone settings to suit your needs. If your dealer has already installed the battery , you can skip to “Charge the battery.
[ 12 ] • CHARGE THE BATTERY Follow these guidelines to char ge the battery. 1 Connect the char ger to an AC wall outlet. 2 With your phone on or off, connect the lead from the charger to the bottom of the phone. The battery indicator bar appears on t he screen and starts to scroll up and down after a few seconds.
[ 13 ] Set up your phone • IMPORT ANT BATTERY INFORMATION • With your phone turned off, charge your new battery for three hours before its first use. Use the battery until it is f ully discharged. Repeat this procedure twice for a total of three charging cycles.
[ 14 ] • SWITCH ON YOUR PHONE When the battery is completely charged, you can switch on your phone. Press and hold the power key . Warn in g: Do not switch on the phone when wireless phone use is prohibited or wh en it may cause interferen ce or danger .
[ 15 ] Set up your phone • ADJUST THE VOLUME Y ou can change the volume lev el on your phone, makin g incoming voic e sounds louder or so fter . • While in a call, Press to increase the volume, and to decrease it. • A bar c hart appears on the ph one’s screen, showing the current volume level.

[ 17 ] Review the basics • A BOUT THE ANTENNA Y our ph one has a built-in antenna. As with any other radio transm itting device, do not t ouch the antenn a unnecessa rily when the phone is swi tched on. Contact with the antenna affects ca l l quality and ma y cause the phone to operate at a higher power level than otherwise needed.

[ 30 ] 5 Add information This section give s detailed instru ctions for entering names, numbers, messages, and other information into your phone. • “Store nam es and n umbers” sta rting on pa ge 38 tells you how to use and manage names and number s.
[ 3 1 ] Add infor mation • ABC AND 123 ME THODS Y ou can enter any combination of numbers and letters into phon e book entries, Web addresses, and more using the ABC and 123 m ethods. The ph one shows th e curren t method with an icon, or small picture, in the uppe r left corner of the screen.
[ 32 ] Enter numbers When you are in a n umber box in the phon e book, the phone shows th e icon. To enter numbers, s imply press the numbers you want. When in mode, you can enter numbers by pressing the key m ultiple times until the number shows up, or you can press and hold the key.
[ 33 ] Add infor mation ERASE MISTA KES If you make a mistake: • Press to erase one character to the left. •P r e s s Clea r as needed to erase more than one character . CHAN GE LE TTER CASE • To switch between uppercase and lowercase letters , press .

Press to view the next matching word if the underlin ed word is not the word you intended. To change the underlined word, pr ess re peatedly until the word you want appears.
[ 36 ] T urn on predictive text input 1 Press Menu , then press Select . 2 When Write message appears, press Select . 3 Press Opt ions , scroll to Pred ictive text and press Selec t . 4 Scroll to the language you want (for example, Englis h ). 5 Press Sele ct .
[ 37 ] Add infor mation If th e word i s correc t: • Insert a punctuat ion mark, if needed. • Press to confirm the change an d enter a space. • Start writing the n ext word. If the word is not correct: • Press repeatedly until the word you want appears, and then press to con firm it.
[ 38 ] 6 Store names a nd numbers Y our ph one in cludes a ph one bo ok that can store up to 20 0 entr ies (name s and associated pho ne numbers). In addition, the phone book can store u p t o t wo numbers per name an d a text entry , such as a postal address or an e-mail address.
[ 39 ] Store names and n umbers 3 Enter a na me and press OK . 4 Press Done to return to the Start screen. Save an entry using the names menu 1 Press Names to enter the phone book. 2 Scroll to Add en try an d press Select . 3 Enter a na me and press OK .
[ 40 ] Recall numbers from the phone book 1 At the St art sc reen, press Names . 2 Select Fin d an d enter the name you ne ed. 3 Press Find , t hen press . Y ou m ay have to scroll to the appropriate entry in a list if you have stored names that are similar to each other .
[ 4 1 ] Store names and n umbers Change phone book views Y ou can view your phone book in three different ways: In all views, you can use the scroll keys to m ove up and down through the list of names. To change the way you view names and numbers in you r phone book: 1 Press Names .
[ 42 ] • EDIT A NAME OR NUMB ER Y ou can edit a name, a number , or both. 1 Recall the name or number you wish to edit. 2 Press Deta ils , then pre ss Options . 3 Scroll to Edit number or Edit nam e and press Select . 4 Edit the name or number and press OK .
[ 43 ] Store names and n umbers • ADD A SECO ND NUMBER TO A NAME Y ou can add a second n umber from the phone book, the Start screen, nam e recall or number type.
[ 44 ] Change the number type Once you have s aved a name with two n umbers, you can ch ange the number type for either of the phone numbers. (For exam ple, you can change the type if yo u saved a numbe r as General and you want to change it to Home. ) 1 Recall the name from the ph one book.
[ 45 ] Check call history 7 Check c all hist ory Y our ph one provides a call log that registers information about calls you make an d receive. The call log keeps track of: • Missed calls • Number.
[ 46 ] Tip: To dial any number that appears on your phone’s screen, press . MISSED CALLS Y our phone sto res the last te n numbers for calls you missed. When you miss a call(s), the message Missed calls appe ars on the screen with the n umber of calls missed.
[ 47 ] Check call history The Al l option clears every n umber in every lis t, whereas the other options clear only the numbers associated with that option. For example, the Di aled option clears on ly the numbers associated with calls you previously dialed.
[ 48 ] Note: The actual invoice for calls and services f rom your service provider may vary , dependin g upon network features, rounding-off for billing, taxes, and so f orth. • TURN ON A CURRENT CALL TIMER Y ou can set your phone to show the run ning elapsed time while a call is active.
[ 49 ] Use advanced calling features 8 Use adv anced c alling fe atures This chapter describe s advanced calling featur es such as conference calli ng, call waiting, and credit cards for calls . Not all features described here are available in all wireless network systems.
[ 50 ] • USE CALL WAITING If you have call wa iting , your phone beeps during a call to let you know that someone else is calling you . Depending on your caller I D setup, the phone might also show th e number of the in coming call. Call waiting is not ava ilable in all wireless systems.
[ 5 1 ] Use advanced calling features Make a conference call While in a call, you can call another n umber and “conference in” (add) a third party to the call. The conference call feature varies based on wireless systems. Contact your service provider for details.
[ 52 ] • USE C ALL FORWARDING When you us e call f orwarding , your network redirects incoming calls to another phone number . The call for warding feature is not available in all wirele ss systems. Contact your service provider for details and availability.
[ 53 ] Use advanced calling features Store the call forwarding fe ature code 1 Press Menu 4-6 -2 ( Menu > Se ttings > Network s ervices > N etwork feature setti ng ). Th e Feature code box appears. 2 Enter the feature code your service pr ovider gave you, then pr ess OK .
[ 54 ] If the system is bus y , your phone makes 3 addit ional call attempts. If you want to stop the automa tic redi al process pr ior to the last attempt, pr ess . Impor tant: This feature does not automatically redial a number when the n umber you are calling is bu sy.
[ 55 ] Use advanced calling features Save calling card information (step 2) The order of th e following steps may vary , de pending on which dialing sequence your card uses. 1 When prom pted for the c alling card’s acce ss number , e nter the nu mber and press OK .
[ 56 ] • SEND YOUR O WN NUMBER IN CALLER ID Y ou can deter mine, for e ach call you make, whe ther your tele phone numb er appears on another phone’s caller ID. In m o s t s er v i c e a r ea s , w h e n y o u c a ll o t h e r s, y o u r n am e i s pr e s e n t ed t o t h e i r caller ID (if they subscribe).
[ 57 ] Use advanced calling features • SELECT A PHONE NUMBER When you first activate your phone, your service provider programs the phone number and system information into your phone’s memory. T he number assigned to your phone provides service for only one service area.
[ 58 ] Set manual touch tones 1 Press Menu 4-3-2-1 ( Menu > Se ttings > Phone settings > Touch tones > Manual touch tones ). 2 Select one of the following options, then press Se lect : Set touch tone length Y ou can also set the length of each touch tone.
[ 59 ] Use advanced calling features 3 Enter the touch tone string. 4 Store the number as you n ormally would. SEND A TOUCH TONE STR I NG 1 Press Menu 4-3-2-1 ( M enu > Settings > Phone sett in gs > T ouch to nes > Manua l touch tones ). 2 Make sure that the setting is not set to Off .
[ 60 ] 9 Use voice mail Vo i c e m a i l provides a way for callers who miss you to leave a message that you can retrie ve later . To use voice ma il, you must sign up for the f eature with your wireless service provider . • CHECK FOR M ESSAGES Y ou r phone beeps when you re ceive a voice message.

If you need in form at ion about how to reco rd your g reeting , conta ct your s ervice provider . • LISTEN TO YOUR VOIC E MESSAGES The way you listen to your voic e messages depends on your service pr ovi der .
[ 62 ] 1 0 P ersonalize ri ngs and tones • WHAT IS A PROFILE? A pr ofile is a group of settings you can u se to customize the way your phone works. Y ou can set your own preferences for these items:.
[ 63 ] P ersonaliz e rings and tones Set ringing options Y ou can choose the type of ring your phone uses to notify you of an incoming call. This setting does not affect any incoming text message alert tones. 1 Press Menu 3 ( Menu > Profil es ). Y our phone lists each profile.
[ 64 ] 4 Scroll to Customize and press Se lect . 5 Scroll to Ringing tone and press Select . 6 Scroll through the options, and when you hear the ton e you want to use, press Sel ect . Set the ringing volume Y ou can set the def a ult ringing volume f or incoming vo ice calls and messa ge alert tones.
[ 65 ] P ersonaliz e rings and tones Set the message aler t tone Y ou can set your phone to use a certain tone to indicate an incoming text messa ge. 1 Press Menu 3 ( M enu > Profiles ). 2 Use or to scroll to the profile for which you want to set the messa ge alert tone, and press Select .
[ 66 ] 3 Select Customiz e and press Select . 4 Scroll to War nin g t one s , then press Se lect . 5 Scroll to On and press Select . If you d o not want to use warn ing tones , you can turn the m off b y scrolling to Off and pressing Sele ct . • RENAME PROFILES Y ou can rename any of the profiles except Normal .
[ 67 ] Pe rsonalize phone settings 1 1 P ersonalize p hone se ttings Y ou can change certain settings so that your phone suits your own needs and lifestyle. Changes you can m ake include changing the language on the screen, showing or hiding the clock, and setting u p 1-touch dialing.
[ 68 ] Show the clock on the Start screen 1 Press Menu 4 -1-2 ( Menu > Settings > Time setting s > Clock) . 2 To show the clock, scroll to Show cloc k and press Select . Select Hide clock if the clock is showing and you don’t want to see it.
[ 69 ] Pe rsonalize phone settings • ADD A WELCOME NOTE Y ou can set your phone to show a brief wel come note each ti me you switch on your phone. The note can include your name, a reminder , or more. 1 Press Menu 4-3-3 ( Menu > Se ttings > Phone settings > Welcome note ).
[ 7 0 ] 4 Use or to scroll to the name and number to wh ich you want to assign this key and press Select . Repeat thes e steps for a s many keys as you want to s et up. 5 To call a number using speed dialing, press and hold the appropriate key for a few seconds.
[ 7 1 ] Pe rsonalize phone settings • SET YOUR PHONE TO ANSWER AUTOMATICALLY Y ou can set your phone to answer i ncoming voice calls a fter one ring.
[ 72 ] • RESTORE THE FACTORY SETT INGS Y ou can change the default (factory) settings for your phone. Later , you can return them to the or iginal settings when needed. Note: The phone does not reset the m e mory , timers, language selection, an d security co de.
[ 73 ] Manage phone securi ty 12 Manage ph one security Y our ph one has a versatile security system that is intended to prevent unauthorized use of the phone. Y ou cannot activate or use certain phone features without h aving first successfully entered your phone’s security code.
[ 74 ] •L O C K T H E K E Y P A D When you lock th e keypad, you prevent a ccidental keypresses — for example, when your phone is in a pocket or purse. This feature is called Ke yg u ar d . Note: Keyguard is automatically turned off when the phon e is connected to a ca r kit.
[ 75 ] Manage phone securi ty • RESTRI CT CALLS Y ou can restrict incoming and outgoing calls. To restrict calls, you create a list of numbers and apply the appropriate restriction. Before you define restrictions for outgoing calls, two restriction option s are available: Se lect and Add restriction .
[ 76 ] Restrict outgoing calls 1 Press Menu 4-5-1 ( M enu > Sett ings > Se curity settin gs > Call restrictions ). 2 Press Sele ct , enter your security code, and press OK . 3 Scroll to Restr ict outgoi ng calls and pres s Select . 4 Scroll to Sel ect to choose from your list of call restrictions.
[ 77 ] Manage reminders and notes 13 Manage rem inders and notes Reminders and notes help you keep track of important events or tasks. A reminder can have a date, time, and alarm attached to it. If y ou have not set your clock, you will be prompted to do so wh en you enter your fi rst reminder .
[ 78 ] Y ou can choose At event time to set the alarm to go off at the same t ime as the re minder . Y ou can choose Other to define your ow n time for th e alarm . Scroll to the option you want and press Se lect . • ADD A NOTE 1 Press Menu 8 ( Menu > Reminders ).
[ 79 ] Manage reminders and notes Receive a reminder or note 1 The message Reminde r receive d appears when someon e send s you a reminder or note. 2 Press Show to vie w the note. OR Press Exit to delete the note. The message Disca rd note? appears. Press OK .
[ 80 ] 14 Use prepaid servic es With prepaid service, you buy wir eless network services in advance. Y our phone works the same way it did before, w ith some additional features. Prepaid service may not be available from your wireless service provider .
[ 8 1 ] Use prepaid services USE THE MENU • To use the Prepaid menu, press Menu and then press to go immediately to the Pr epaid menu. • Press or to scroll through prepaid options. • SAVE YOUR ACCESS NUMBERS Y ou can check your prepaid balan ce and add money when the bala nce is low .
[ 82 ] • CHECK YOUR PREPAID BALANCE Contact your se rvice provider for the toll-free access number used to check the balance remaining in you r prepaid account. Check the prep aid balance 1 Press Menu 1 1-1 ( Menu > Prepaid > Check account balance ).
[ 83 ] Set network services features 15 Set network servi ces features Y ou can subscribe to various network services. Availability depends on your service provider . Y our ph one supports the network services listed here. These services are not available from all providers or in all areas.
[ 84 ] Note: If you hav e two ph one nu mbers, you can use the Manual and New search options only with your primary phone number . • USE YOUR PHONE W HILE TRAVELING When your phone is ou tside its home area, the phone is said to be roam ing . Calls made or received while you are roaming may cost more than calls made in your home area.
[ 85 ] Communicate with text messages 1 6 Communicate with text messages Y ou can use your phone to send and receive short text messages if your service pr ovider offers the message featu re and if you subscribe to the service. Y ou can a lso send messages as e- mail.
[ 86 ] • USE FOLD ERS FOR TEXT MESSAGES Y our phone has four folders for m anaging text messages. T ext message capacity Y our phon e can store up to 30 text messages. This is a combined total of messages stored in your inbox, outbox, and archive folders.
