4 Signal Stre ngth Indicat ion A cellul ar phone s ends and rec eives rad io signa ls. As with all ra d io e quipment , the qualit y of radio re ception depend s on the str ength of the rad io signal in the area where yo u are operating your phone.
5 3. Battery Informat ion Your phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. Use only batter ies ap proved by th e phone manufacture r and recha rge your batte ry only wit h the char gers appr oved by the manufac turer. Se e “Important Batter y Info rmatio n” on page 10.
6 Charging the Battery Plug t he char ger in to a wall out let an d co nne ct th e ch arger to the bottom of your phone. When c harging starts , t he batte ry segmen ts scr oll and th e phon e beeps once . Y ou can use the phone during charg- ing, but charging will be reduce d for the duration of the call.

8 Talk and Stan dby Times Battery operation times depend greatly on how you use the batteries, as well a s on the coverage of the network and network parameters set by the cellular service provider. Discharging the Battery A bat ter y lasts longe r an d per for ms bette r if you fu lly discharge it f rom time to time.
9 Battery Lo w Warning You get this message a nd a warning tone when the b attery cha rge is low and on ly a f ew minutes of tal k time remain. The repetiti on rate of the batte ry-low warni ng s de pen ds o n the remaining battery capacity and the battery condition.
10 Dur ing this 30 min utes , the ph one is in ‘Dee p Dischar ge’ mode. T he way to ‘wak e up’ the pho ne is to connect it to a charger . 3 Full y cha rge the batt ery af ter Deep Disch arge . The phone may remind you to discharge the battery, by presenting a series of battery-advice messages.

12 4. The Basics Switching On or O ff • Press and hold the PWR key f or one second . NORMAL POSITION: Hold the phone as you would any other tel ephone with the anten na point ed up and over your should er. TIPS ON EFFI CIENT OPERATION: Extend your an tenna fully wh en in ca lls.
13 Note: The wake-up message is specific to yo ur currently selected phone num ber. Selecting a Network Your phone operates on spe cific networks and sometimes it mus t choose which system to us e. This can happen, for example, if you a re roa min g (i.

15 You can answer a call any time, even while using Keyguard, memory or menu functions. If you don ’t answer a ca ll, th e message 1 MISSED CALL or ‘n’ MISS ED CALL S appears on the disp lay and remains until y ou press any key (except the PWR key) to clear the dis play , or y ou c an p res s OK or ! to view the Missed Calls L ist.

The call i s then made , and the phone displays CARD CALL and the name of the card ( if you ha ve entered one) .
20 Making PIN Calls 1 Make the cal l as usual (refer to “M aking a Call” on page 13). The phone displays PIN CAL L . 2 After you hear a tone, pr ess SEND again. The phone displays SEND ING PIN ... . If the message remains on the display , press SEND aga in to rese nd the PIN code.
21 What is Debit Mode? To activate your phone through TRACFONE ® prepaid serv ice, cal l the toll f ree numb er on the card incl uded with this Owner’s Manual . 22 5. The Phone Book The Phone Book can store up to 75 phone numbers and corr espondin g names. It al so has a “notep ad” wh ere you can stor e one addi tional number and name. The maximum number of phone book e ntries depends on how mu ch in form ation you st ore in each lo catio n.
23 Entering Punc tuation Marks The ‘0’ key can be used to in sert punc tuation marks ( and 0). 28 6. The Menu The phone ’s menus and submenus gi ve you access to many fe atur es and ways to custo miz e your phone. You can use the menus an d submenus e ither with t he ‘Menu then OK Method ’ or the ‘Shortcut Method’. A menu li st is on pa ge 30 and inst ructio ns for using the menus follow.

35 When you dial a number in the Missed Calls list it i s deleted from this list, a nd it is add ed to th e Dialed Calls list. The Missed Calls list remains in the phone's memory when the ph one is switc hed off. If you want to erase it , use Menu 24.

46 But the re may be times when you can’t or don’t use your Home sy stem (f or example whe n you tr avel) . Then, there’ s usually more than one netw ork your phon e can w ork in . But which one should it work in? The poi nt of the Carri er Selecti on menu is to help your phone make the best choice f or you.
47 If your dealer has not progra mmed this list into your phone, you can still use the Prefe rred option. The phone will look first for your home system, then a network of the same “typ e” as your home sy stem. Non-Pre ferre d - Your phone will choose a network that is of a different “ty p e” than your Home syst em.

52 Lock Phone (Menu 6) When you lock your phone, you cannot make outgoi ng calls ( except to th e number stor ed in locati on 75 and the emergenc y number programmed into your phone). Also, you can not access the phone’s memory or menu. You can rec eive incoming calls as usual .
53 Read Messages ( Menu 7 1) The phone automatical ly stores the l ast 20 short t ext messages you have received in the Read Messages list. (You can receive text messages if the network supports this s ervice , and if you subsc ribe to thi s servic e – refer to your service provider for more info rmation).
54 Erase Messages (M enu 7 2) This menu lets you erase any o f the s tored messa ges. Note: Th is menu erases messa ges you select, and cannot be undone! 1 Press MENU , then #! until you see MESSAGES . Press OK . 2 Press ! to scroll to ERAS E MESSAG ES .
55 3 Press ! to move the pointer to the option you r equire: Sh ort, Long, Vibra O nly or Of f. Press OK to choose it. These options are descri bed below: Short - causes the pho ne to beep 3 time s when you recei ve a text or voic e messa ge. Long - causes the phone to beep for 15 minutes when you receive a voice or text message.

This system service lets y ou accept or make a second call when you already h ave a ca ll in pro gress (e .g. set up a conf erence ca ll), or send other inform ation to the networ k, such as cred it car d num bers.
69 8. Network Services A vailability of Network Services The n etwork services a vailab le wi ll depend on the model of you r pho ne, th e cell ular s ystem (AM PS or N AMPS ) on which it ope rates, and the serv ices offere d by your c ellular ser vice pr ovider .

73 Digit al Me ssag e Ser vice (Nokia 252N only) When you cannot answe r cal ls the ca ller or swi tchboard can send you a short message using the Digital Message Servi ce (DMS). Th e message can be a shor t text message, a callba ck nu mber, or a note to say you have voicem ail.
74 If the indic ator blink s the M essa ges L ist is full of read or unread messages. If 20 messages are already stored, when a new message arrive s the oldest is erased automatica lly. If the same me ssage is received twice, the most rece nt message is stored, but the old message is erased from the Messages List.
