6 Preparing for Shooting Preparing for Shooting 1 Open the battery-c hamber/memory card slot cover. • Hold the camera upside down to prevent the batteries from falling out. 2 Insert the batteries and memory card. • Confirm that the positive (+) and n egative (–) battery terminals are or iented correctly and insert the batteries.
7 Preparing for Shooting B Notes About the Batteries • Do not combine old and new batteries or batteries of different makes or type s. • Batteries with the following defects cannot be used: B Form.
8 Preparing for Shooting When the camera is turne d on for the first time, the langua ge-selection screen and the dat e and time setting screen for the camera clock are displayed. • If you exit without setting th e date and time, O will flash when the shooting scr een is displayed.
9 Preparing for Shooting 4 Use JK to select yo ur home time zone and press the k button. • Press H to turn on day light saving time ( W is displayed above the map). Press I to turn it off. 5 Use HI to select the date format and press the k button. 6 Set the date and time, and press the k button.
10 Preparing for Shooting 9 Use HI to select Easy auto mode and press the k button. • T he camera enters the sh ooting mode and you can take images in Easy auto mode. • W hile shooting, you can check th e battery level indica tor and the number of exposures remaining .
11 Preparing for Shooting C The Auto Off Function • If you do not operate the camera for about 30 se conds, the monitor turns off, the camera enters standby mode, and the power-on lamp flashes. Th e camera turns off after about three minutes in standby mode.
12 Using the Camera Using the Camera 1 Hold the camera steady. • Ke ep fingers and other objects away from the lens, flash, microph one, and s peaker. • W hen taking pictures in the “tall” (portrait) orientation, make sure the flash is above the lens.
13 Using the Camera 3 Press the shutter-release button halfway ( A 14). • When the subject is in focus, the focus area glows gr een. • Multiple focus areas can glow green. • When you are using digital zoom, the camera focuses on the subject in the center of th e fr ame and the focus area is not displayed.
14 Using the Camera Using the Zoom When you move the zoom control, th e zoom lens position changes. • To zoom in closer to th e subject: Move towa rd g (telephoto) • To zoom out a nd view a larger a rea: Move toward f (wide- angle) When you turn the camera o n, the zoom moves to the maximum wide-angle position.
15 Using the Camera B Notes About Easy Auto Mode • Depending upon shooting conditions , the camera m ay not select the desired scen e mode. In thi s case, select another shooting mode ( E 4, E 8, E 10). • When the dig ital zoom is in ef fect, the scene mode changes to U .
16 Using the Camera 1 Press the c (playback) button to enter playback mo de. • If you press and h old down the c (playback) button while the camera is turned off, the camera turns on in playback mode. 2 Use the multi selector HIJK to select an image to display.
17 Using the Camera 1 Press the l (delete) button to delete the image currently displayed in the monitor. 2 Use the multi selector HI to select Current image and press the k button. • C urrent image : The imag e currently displa yed is deleted. • E rase selected image s : Multiple images that you se lect are deleted ( A 18).
18 Using the Camera Operating the Erase Selected Images Screen 1 Use the multi selector JK to select an image to be deleted, and then use H to display a check mark.
19 Using the Camera You can use the multi se lector to set frequently use d functions such as the flash and sel f- timer. You can set the following functions u sing HIJK in the shooting screen. • X Flash mode ( E 11) You can select the fla sh mode to match the shooting conditio ns.
20 Shooting Features Shooting Features The following shooting modes are available. • G Easy auto mo de ( E 3) The camera automatica lly selects the optimu m scene mode when you frame an image, making it even easier to take ima ges using settings that suit the sce ne.

24 Using the Men us Using the Menus Use the multi se lector and k button to navigate the menu s. The following menus are available. • A Shooting menu ( E 43) Available by pressing the d button in the sh ooting screen. Allows you to change image size and quality, cont inuous shooting settings, etc.
25 Using the Men us • Certain menu options cannot be set depending on the current shoo ting mode or the state of the camera. • When a menu is displayed, you can sw itch to shooting mode by pressing the A (shooting mode) button or b ( e movie-record) button.
26 Connecting th e Camera to a TV, Comp uter, or Printer Connecting the Camera to a TV, Computer, or Printer You can enhance yo ur enjoyment of images an d movies by connecting the camera to a TV , computer, or printer.
27 Connecting th e Camera to a TV, Comp uter, or Printer Viewing images on a TV E 32 Images and movies capture d with the cam era can be vie wed on a TV . Connection method: Connect the video and audio plugs of the Audio Video Cable EG-CP14 to the TV’s input jacks.

29 Connecting th e Camera to a TV, Comp uter, or Printer Transferring Images to the Computer 1 Choose how images will be copied to the computer. Choose one of the following methods: • SD card slot : If yo ur computer is equipped with an SD c ard slot, the c ard can b e inserted directly in the slot.

E 3 Reference Sect ion The camera automatically sele cts the optimum scene mode when you fram e an image, making it even easier to take images using settings that suit the scene. When the camera sele cts a scene mode, the shoo ting mode icon displayed in the shooting screen changes to that for the s cene mode currently enabled.
E 4 Reference Sect ion When a scen e is selected , camera settings are automatically op timized for the selected scene. * The icon of the last s cene sele cted is displ ayed. 1 The camera focuses on the area in the center of the frame. 2 The camera focuses at infinity.
E 5 Reference Sect ion Tips and Notes d Sports • While the shutter-release button is held all the way down, the camera sh oots up to about 3 images continuously at a ra te of about 1.
E 6 Reference Sect ion l Museum • The camera captures a series of up to t en images while the shutter-release button is held all th e way down, and the sharpest image in the series is automatically selected and saved (BSS (Best Shot Selector)). • The fl ash does not fire.
E 7 Reference Sect ion B Pet Portrait Auto Release • Press the multi sel ector J ( n ) to change the Pet portrait auto release settings. - Y : The shutter is automatically release d wh en the camera detects a dog or cat face. - k : The camera does not release the shutter automatically, even if a dog or cat face is detected.
E 8 Reference Sect ion When the camera detec ts a smiling face, you can take an ima ge automatically with out pressing the shutter-relea se button (smile timer ( E 50)). You can use the skin softening option to smo oth the skin t ones of human fa ces.
E 9 Reference Sect ion Functions Available in Smart Portrait Mode • Flash mode ( E 11) • Self-timer ( E 14) • Exposure compensation ( E 16) • Smart portrait menu ( E 43).
E 10 Reference Sect ion Used for general shooting. Sett ings can be adjusted to suit the shooting conditions and the type of shot you want to capture. • The camera focuses on the area in the center of the frame.
E 11 Reference Sect ion The functions that are available vary with the shooting mode ( E 17). Using the Flash When using A (auto) mode and other shooting modes, you can se lect the flash mode to match the shooting condit ions. 1 Press the multi selector H ( m ).
E 12 Reference Sect ion Available Flash Modes U Auto The flash fires when necessary, such as in dim lighting. • The flash mode icon on the shooting screen is displayed only immediately after the setting is made . V Auto with red-eye reduct ion Reduce red-ey e in portraits caused by the flash ( E 13).
E 13 Reference Sect ion C The Flash Lamp The status of the flash can be confirmed by pre ssing the shutter- release button halfway. • On: The flash fires whe n you press the shutter-release b utton all the way down. • Flashing: The flash is charging.
E 14 Reference Sect ion Using the Self-timer The camera is equipped with a self-timer tha t releases the shutter about ten seconds afte r you press the shutte r-release button.
E 15 Reference Sect ion Using Macro Mode Use macro mode when taking clos e-up images. 1 Press the multi selector I ( p ). 2 Select ON and press th e k button. • If a setti ng is not applied by pr essing the k button within a few seconds, the selection will be canceled.
E 16 Reference Sect ion Adjusting Brightness (E xposure Compensation ) You can adjust overall imag e brightness. 1 Press the multi selector K ( o ). 2 Select a compensation value and press the k button. • T o brighten the image, se t a positive (+) value.

E 21 Reference Sect ion Using Skin Softening When the shutte r is released while us ing one of the shooting modes lis ted below, the camera detects human face s and processes the image to soften fac ial skin tones (up to three faces) .
E 22 Reference Sect ion Focus Lock Focus lock shoot ing is recommended when the camera does not activ ate the focus area th at contains the desired subject. 1 Select A (auto) mode ( E 10). 2 Position the subject in the center of the frame and press the shutter- release button halfway.
E 23 Reference Sect ion Moving the zo om control toward g ( i ) in full-frame playback mode ( A 16) zooms in on the image. • You can change the zoom ratio by m oving the zoom control towa rd f ( h ) or g ( i ). • To view a different area of the image, press the multi select or HIJK .
E 24 Reference Sect ion Moving the z oom control to ward f ( h ) in full-frame playback mode ( A 16) displays images as thumbnails. • You can change the number of thumbnails di splayed by moving the zoom control toward f ( h ) or g ( i ).
E 25 Reference Sect ion Before Editing Images You can easily edit images on this came ra. Edited copies are saved as separate files. • Edited copies are saved wit h the same shootin g date and time as the original.
E 26 Reference Sect ion I D-Lighting: Enhancing Brightness and Contrast Use the multi selector HI to select OK and press the k button. • Th e edited ver sion is dis played on th e right. • To exit without saving the copy, select Cancel and pre ss the k button.

E 30 Reference Sect ion g Small Picture: Reducing the Size of a n Image 1 Use the multi selector HI to select the desired copy size and press the k button. 2 Select Yes and press the k button. • A n edited copy is created (compression ratio of approximately 1:16).

E 32 Reference Sect ion Connect the camera to a TV using an audio/video cabl e ( E 78) to play back images or movies on the TV. 1 Turn off the camera and connect it to the TV. • Make sure that the p lugs are properly or iented . Do not insert or remove the plugs at an angle when connectin g or disconnecting them.
E 33 Reference Sect ion Users of PictBridge-compatible printers can connect the camera directly to the printer and print images without using a co mputer. Connecting the Camer a to a Printer 1 Turn off the camera. 2 Turn on the printer. • C heck printer settings.
E 34 Reference Sect ion 4 Turn on the camera. • The PictBridge startup sc reen ( 1 ) is displayed in the camera monitor, followed by the Print selection screen ( 2 ). Printing Individual Images 1 Connect the camera to a printer ( E 33). 2 Use the multi selector to s elect the desired image and press the k button.
E 35 Reference Sect ion 4 Select the desired number of copies (up to nine) and press the k butto n. 5 Select Paper size and press the k button. 6 Select the desire d paper size and press the k button. • T o apply the paper size setting co nfigured on the printer, sele ct Default as the paper size option.
E 36 Reference Sect ion Printing Multiple Images 1 Connect the camera to a printer ( E 33). 2 When the Print selection screen is displayed , press the d button. 3 Use the multi selector HI to select Paper size and press the k button. • T o exit the print menu, press the d button.
E 37 Reference Sect ion Print selection Select images (up to 99) and the number of copies (u p to nine) of each. • Use the multi selector JK to select images, and u se HI to specify the number of copies to be printed. • Images selected for print ing are indicated b y a check mark and the numeral indicating the number of copies to be printed.
E 38 Reference Sect ion 6 When printing is complete, turn the camera off and disconnect the USB cable. DPOF printing Print images for which a print order was created using the Print order option ( E 52). • Wh en the screen shown on the right is displayed, select Start print and press the k button to start printing.
E 39 Reference Sect ion • When no memory card is ins erted (i.e., wh en using the camera’s internal memory), Movie options ( E 59) is set to m VGA (640×480) . n HD 720p (1280×720) cannot be selected. 1 Display the shooting screen. • C heck the remain ing amount of mov ie recording time.
E 40 Reference Sect ion B Maximum Movie Length Individual mo vie files cannot exceed 4 GB in size or 29 minutes in length, even when there is sufficient fr ee space on the memo ry card for lo nger recording. • The maximum movi e length for a single mov ie is displayed on the shootin g screen.
E 41 Reference Sect ion B Camera Temperature • The camera may become warm when s hooting movies for an exte nded peri od of time or when the camera is used in a hot area. • If the ins ide of the came ra becomes extrem ely hot when r ecording movies , the camera wi ll automatically stop recording.
E 42 Reference Sect ion Functions Available During Playback Playback controls are di splayed in the monitor. The operations listed below can be performed by using the multi selector JK to select a control and then pressing the k button. E 43 Reference Sect ion The settings listed bel ow can be changed by pressing the d button during shooting. The settings that can be chan ged vary depending on the shooting mode, as shown below.
E 44 Reference Sect ion Image Mode Settings (Image Size and Quality) Select the combination of image size and compre ssion ratio t hat is used when sav ing images.
E 45 Reference Sect ion C Notes About Image Mode • The image mode setti ng can also be changed in shoot ing modes ot her than A (auto) mode. The changed setting is also applied to other shooting mo des. • The setting may not be changed whe n using certain setting s of other functions.
E 46 Reference Sect ion White Balance (Adjusting Hue) Adjust white balance to suit the light source or weather co nditions in order to make the colors in images match what you see with yo ur eyes. • Use Auto under most conditio ns. Change the setting when yo u want to adjust t he hue of the image you are taking.
E 47 Reference Sect ion Using Preset Manual Use the procedure be low to measure the white balanc e value under the lighting used during shooting. 1 Place a white or gray reference object und er the lighting that will be used during shooting. 2 Use the multi selector HI to select Preset manual in the White balance menu, and press the k button.
E 48 Reference Sect ion Continuous Shooting B Notes About Continuous Shooting • When a setting other than Si ngle is selected, the flash cann ot be used. Focus, exp osure, and whi te balance are fixed at the values determined with the first image in each series .
E 49 Reference Sect ion B Notes About Multi-shot 16 Smear ( F 3) visible in the monitor when sh ooting with Multi-shot 16 enab led is saved with images. Avoiding bright objects such as the sun, re flections of the sun, and electri c lights when shooting with Multi-shot 16 en abled is recommend ed.

Skin Softening The result o f skin softening effect on yo ur subject cannot be confirmed when framing images for shooting. Check the resu lts in playback mode, after taking ima ges.

Select images to prot ect or ca ncel protection for previously protected images from the image selection scre en ( E 56). Note that formatt ing the camera’s in ternal memory or the memory card perma nently deletes protected files ( E 69).
E 56 Reference Sect ion The Image Selection Screen When an image selectio n screen such as the one shown on the right is displayed while op er ating the camera, follow the procedures desc ribed below to select the im ages. 1 Use the multi selector JK to select an image.
