Newer T echnology Guardian MAXimus mini Chapter 1 - Introduction The Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus mini has multiple interfaces to work with any computer syst em. ➀ DC IN port - The Newer T echnology Guardian M AXimus mini requir es power to operate.
The Newer T echnology Guardian MA Ximus mini has an L CD display at the front of the hard drive enclosure . It will illuminate blue when powered on, and the activity lights below the L CD display will also illuminate . The L CD display is covered in more detail in the next pages.

4.1 IMPORT ANT INFORMA TION IF Y OU PLAN ON USING Y OUR DRIVE TO BOO T ON A G3, G4, OR G5 SYSTEM If you purchased a precongur ed Newer T echnology Guardian MAXimus mini, y our new external hard drive has been formatted f or the Macintosh as a Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) volume, using the GUID* Partition T able scheme.
4.3 Forma tting your Guardian MA Ximus mini on a Macintosh with Mac OS X Click on the “Initialize” button. Select the device with no volumes attached to it; in this picture, that would be the 640 GB Newer T echnology device. Click on the picture of the drive icon next to the text.
Once you ’ve selected the Newer T echnology device, y ou will notice the above change in the Disk Utility application. Click on the “Partition” tab in this picture. Y ou then need to choose how many partitions you wish your Newer T echnology Guardian MAXimus mini t o have.
Choose a name for the volume. Y ou will need to repeat this step for each volume if y ou selected multiple partitions. Click Apply to nish. ➄ ➅ Y ou will be asked to conrm that you wish to f.

➃ Your drive will ap - pear similar to how Disk 1 does below. Notice that the space on the lower right reads as “Unallo - cated.” Right click in this space and choose “New Partition.” ➄ The “New Partition Wiz - ard” will launch. Click “Next” to continue.
➇ If you like, you can specify the drive letter designation for y our new drive. Other wise, one will automatically be assigned. Click “Nex t. ” ➈ Before you can use the drive, it must be formatt ed. On most systems running Window s 2000 or later , it is advisable to specify the le system as NTFS.
➀➀ Once you have nished with the format - ting wizard, you will see that your new drive (represented as “Disk E” in this case) will display a message of “Formatting . ” This should only take a couple of minutes if you chose the quick format option.
