Chapter 1. Introduction 1 Chapter 1. Introduction 1.1 Overview This manual is written to assist sy stem integrators, field engineers and network a dministrators in setting set up NetComm NP725 Acc ess Points in their network e nvironm ents.

Chapter 2. System Overv iew 4 Rear Panel Power Socket: Connects to the power adapter provided. RESET Button o Press the button to rest art the system. o Press and hold the button for 5 seconds to reset the sy stem to factory default and restart the sy stem.

Chapter 3. Installation 6 Chapter 3. Inst al latio n 3.1 Wireless LAN Acce ss Point C o nnecti on Please follow the steps below to install the hardware of NP725. 1. Locate the wireless LAN access point at the best location. The best location for NP725 is usually at the center of a wireless network.
Chapter 3. Installation 7 3.2 Basic Configuration NP725 provides the web management interface for configuratio n. After completing hardware inst a llation, the administrator can con figure the NP725 via web br owsers with Java Script enabled, such as Mozill a Firefox 2.
Chapter 3. Installation 8 After successfully logging into NP725, the System Ov e rvie w pag e of the web management interface will appear. To logout, simpl y click the Logout icon on the upper righ t corner of t he inte rf ace to return to t he Admin istrator Login Page.
Chapter 3. Installation 9 Configure AP Settings 1) Click on t h e AP menu item. Select General submenu. 2) Determine the Band and Channe l Select preferred Band and Channel for the wireless connection. For ex ample, band is selected to 802.1 1b+802.1 1 g and channel to 6 .
Chapter 3. Installation 10 Check AP S tatus After fin ishing the settings, the enabled virtual AP shou ld appear in the virtual AP lis t showing enabled state.

Chapter 3. Installation 15 Configure WDS Setti ngs 1) Click on t h e WDS m enu item. 2) Select WDS Configurati on submenu item. 3) Setting WDS link parameters By default, WDS profiles are disabl ed. First, choose the WDS Profile; enable WDS; supply peer ’s MAC address and security type .

Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 23 4.1.2 Network Settings There are two methods of IP configuration available in NP725. LAN interface confi guration determines the way to obtain the IP address by DHCP or manually setup. Mode : Determine the way to obt ain the IP address, by DHCP or S tatic.
Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 24 4.1.3 Management Services For easier maintenance, SNMP (S imple Network Ma nageme nt Protocol) and remote sys log services are provided in NP725. VLAN for Management : The management traf fic from the device can be t agged with VLAN ID.

Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 28 4.2.2 General Settings Band: The operating wireless frequen cy band of th e device. Choose among frequency ban d Disable , 802.1 1b , 802.1 1g or mixed mode 802.1 1b+802.1 1g . Short Preamble: This option can be turned on to enab le Sho rt-Preamble frames.
Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 29 4.2.3 V AP Configuration T o enable each V AP in the NP725, the a dministrator has to configure each V AP manually . The settings of each V AP are collected as its profile. Enable V AP : Enable or disable virtual AP settings.

Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 35 Deny List When the policy is set to Deny List , al l wireless connections to the V AP will be allowed ex cept those denied MAC addresses listed. When the us ers want to allow one liste d MAC address temporarily , disable the addres s from the deny list.

The configurations under this category apply to all V irtual Access Points in this dev ice. 4.3.1 WDS Link Overview The figure provides an overall st atus of all WDS links.
Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 38 4.3.2 WDS Link Settings For each WDS link profile, the adm inistrators need the remote peer' s MAC ad dress and the security ty pe for establish ing c onnection to the peer . WDS Profile : Pull the drop-down menu to select one WDS profile to configure.

Chapter 4 W eb Management Interface 40 4.4.2 Configuration Save / Restore This function is used to backup a nd to restore the NP725 se ttings. The NP72 5 can also be restored to the factory default settings using this function. It c an be used to duplicate settings to other acces s point s (backup settings and then restore in another AP).
Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 41 4.4.3 System Upgrade NP725 provides W eb firmware upload/upgrade feature. While t he new firmware is obt ai ned, it has to put locally in the administrator’s computer . The users c an easily download the latest firmware from the we bsite and upgrade the system.
Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 42 4.4.4 Reboot This function allows the administra tor to restart the NP725 safely . The proces s should take about three m inutes . Click Reboot button to restart the system. Please wait for the blinking timer to fi nish before accessing the system web management interfac e aga in.

Chapter 4. W eb Management Interface 46 4.5.3 WDS List S t atus The list shows the WDS link st atus with information such as Link S t atus, MAC Address, SNR(dB), Tx Rate, Tx Count, and Tx Errors. Link S ta tus: Show Link S tatus such as Disconnected, Disabled or Connected.

In the log, normally , each line represents an event record; And in each line, there are 4 fields: Date/Time : The time & date when the event happened .
