2 The GEM-RP1C Ae2 is a “ smart ” user-friendly, m enu-driven keypad designed for your N apco GEM-X255 control panel. The key pad is interactive. Its alphanumeric screen will not only display the status of your system, but will also give you step-by-step instructi ons to guide you through all operations.

5 KEYPAD CONTROLS & INDICATORS Window. Displays system status messages, zone descriptions, etc. STATUS Light. Lights (green) to indicate that the system is ready for arming. If a zone is not secured the light will be off and the zone will d ispla y in t he wind ow.
6 SETTING THE ALARM (ARM ING) WHEN LEAVING Arming the Sys tem 1 Check the key pad . The green ST ATUS light m ust be on in order to arm. If the green light is off, “ZONES FAULT ED” w ill display in the window followed by the number and description of ea ch faulted zone.
7 SETTING THE ALARM (ARM ING) WHEN LEAVING Sy stem Troubl e If you attempt to arm with a “SYSTEM TROUBLE” display al ternating with an indicated trouble code (e .g. “E02-00 ” (low batte ry); see SYSTEM TRO UBLE ERROR CODES), a 3- second tone will sound at t he key pad.
8 Bypassing Interi or Zones I nterior Zones, w hen bypassed, allow free move ment w ithin the home w hile the protec tion of armed perimeter zones i s maintained. To bypass Interior Zones, pres s E and enter your User Code followed by D . Your system m ay have provisions for two gro ups of In terior Zones.
9 PROTECTING YOURSELF WHILE ON THE PREMISES Easy Exit (Optional - Easy Exit programmed? ! YES ! NO) Your system may have been programmed for Easy Exit, which a llows a user to exit the premises while the system is armed.

T he keypad will sound a s teady tone to remind you to disarm the system be f or e you r Ent r y De l ay t i me ex p ir e s. 2 Enter y our User Code an d press D . The red ARMED light will go out, indicating that the system has been disarme d.
11 FIRE PROTECTION (Applicable only where local ordinanc e permits use of this alarm cont rol panel for fi re protection.) Fire-Zone Alarm If a fire is detected, “FIRE ALARM” will be displayed and the keypad sounder will pulse.
12 FIRE PROTECTION Preparing a Fire Escape Plan Even with the mo st advanced f ire alarm system, adequate protection requires an escape plan. To prepare your plan, draw floor plans of your buildin g. (Space is provided on the nex t page.) Show two exits - a front or back door and a window from each room.

14 FIRE PROTECTION Although a fire alarm system may be of a reliable and state-of- the-art design, neither it nor its peripheral detection devices can offer guaranteed protection against fire.
15 KEYPAD FUNCTIONS The keypad can provide access to a wide assortment of utility func tions. The functi ons are displayed in a prompting “YES/NO” format. 1 To enter the F unction Menu, pres s A . • In all UL-listed or high-security installations, a valid User Code must firs t be ent ered followed by A .
16 A ctivate Bell Test? Activates the alarm (while disarmed) for about 2 seconds and pe rforms a battery test. If the alarm does not s ound, call for serv ice. • If the batte ry is low, a “LOW BATTERY E02-00 SERVICE” will appear in the display indicating a low battery condition.
17 KEYPAD FUNCTIONS Res et System Tr ouble? System troubles display and sound at the keypad. Correcti ng the trouble will clear most indications , howev er the foll owing error codes w ill require manual reset: E13; E 19; E20 and E 22. (See S YSTEM TROU BLE ERROR CODES for a description of error codes.
18 KEYPAD FUNCTIONS Activate Te lephone Test? (Telephone Test programm ed? ! YES ! NO). Sends a communicator test to the cent ral station. A communication failure will be indicated at the keypad by a system trouble “E03 -FAIL TO COMM” display.
19 KEYPAD FUNCTIONS Activate Program? Activates the Program Mode fr om Keypad No. 1. Note: This feature is di sabled while arme d . (See PROGRA MMING USER C ODES) Activa te Dow nload? Fo r installer's use only. If accidentally enabled, press C to exit.
20 Your alarm specialist may have programm ed your syste m to be monitored by a central station. The bu ilt- in dig ital co mmun ica tor can transmit emergency signals and status reports to the central station 24 hours a day. Communicator Features Abort Delay.
21 ADVANCED FEATURES Security By pass/Unby pass (Security Bypass programmed? ! YES ! NO). In high-security applications, zones may be bypassed (or unbypa ssed) only if a valid code is entered first, as follows: 1. Enter a User Code valid for bypass, then press B .
22 PROGRAMMING (OPTIONAL) Enter the User Prog ram Mod e 1 Enter your User Code, then press A to enter the Func tion Mode. 2 Answer NO ( F ) until “ACTIVATE PROGRAM Y/ N” is displayed , then press YES ( E ) “ENTER USER CODE” will display indicating that the system is ready for User Code programm ing.
23 PROGRAMMING (OPTIONAL) Reviewing a Programmed User Code To review an ex isting User Code, enter the 2-digit user number and the corresponding User Code w ill displ ay. Exiti ng the User Program Mode When you have completed pro gramming or erasing User Codes, press C to exit the User Program Mode.
24 PROGRAMMING (OPTIONAL) Enter the User Prog ram Mode 1 Enter your User Code, then press A to enter the Functi on Mode. 2 Answer NO (press F ) until “ACTI VATE PROGRAM Y/N” is dis played , then press YES ( E ). “ ENTER USER CODE” will display, p ress NEXT ( E ) and the keypad wi ll display the Zone 1 Description .
25 PROGRAMMING (OPTIONAL) Enter the User Prog ram Mod e 1 Enter your User Code, then press A to enter the Func tion Mode. 2 Answ er NO (press F ) until “ACTI VATE PROGRAM Y/N” is displayed , then press YES ( E ). “ENTER USER CODE” will display, press NEXT ( E ) until the keypad display s the “Enter Date” screen.
26 KEYPAD MESSAGES The keypad can display th e following functional messages. Other diag nostic messages are available for the installer or servicer. Should any unfamiliar message appear, call your dealer for service. All zones op erating; system can be armed.
27 KEYPAD MESSAGES Alarm condi tion, followed by zone descript ion(s). “ALARM” and zones will display after syste m is disarmed. N ote zones, then press C to clea r key pad. (With pu lsing sounder.) T rouble condi tion on a Fire Zone. Press C to s ilence sounder.
28 KEYPAD MESSAGES The system is in the proce ss of reporting a ca ncel sig nal to central s tation which will cancel the ala rm which it has jus t reported. The system has rece ived an ack nowledgment from c entral st ation of the cancellat ion of the alarm s ignal.
29 GLOSSARY Following are brief desc riptions of terms and feat ures used herein t hat may be unfamil iar to you. Some of the features are programmable options that may or may not apply to your particul ar system. Abort Delay - A delay perio d that allows the control panel to be reset, thus aborting a report to a central station.
30 GLOSSARY INTERIOR Button - Bypasses Interior Zones on arming (see Zone s - Interior Zones). Instant Protection - Arming without entry delay using the F button while remaining on the premises. Keypad - Puts control-panel functions at your fingertips.
31 GLOSSARY Zones - Independe nt circuits that protect specific areas of the premises: Auto-B ypass Zone : A zone t hat will be autom aticall y bypassed from the protectio n system if it is in trouble (faulty) when the system is armed. Burglary Zone: Detects in trusio n.
32 SYSTEM TROUBLE ERROR CODES Your control panel i s capable of det ecting a variety of trouble s that may affect system perfo rmance. I n the unlikely event that a problem s hould occur, the SYS T BL (system t rouble) icon will display on the lef t side of keypad window along with one or more o f the following error codes .

37 TROUBLESHOOTING What do I do if... For more info... I try to arm my sy stem but the keypad just displays “ZONES NOT NORMAL” and “CAN’T ARM SYSTEM” and beeps at me. If the green STATUS light is off, a zone is open. Fin d and secure the open windo w or door.
