This quick start provides the necessary information for a qualified person to unpack, cable, load software, and configure the unit for proper operation.

7 Introduction Deploy the VOIP Network The final phase of the installation is deployment of the network. Through the first two phases , the VOIP administr ator controls configuration, so when the Client MultiVOIPs are sent to their remote sites, the remote site administrators need only to connect the units to their LAN and telephone equipment.

9 Cabling Cabling Your MultiVOIP Cabling y our MultiV OIP inv olves making the proper P ow er , Command Port, phone system, and Internet connections. Figure 3 shows the bac k panel connectors and the associated cable connections . The f ollowing procedure details the steps necessar y f or cab ling y our MultiV OIP .

11 Cabling E&M Jumper Block Positioning Procedure Each v oice/f ax channel on the MultiV OIP has a separate E&M jumper block, located near the jacks on the back panel of the MultiV OIP . Each jumper bloc k has 8 pairs of pins with a jumper plug on three adjacent pairs of pins.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 12 4. Change the jumper b lock position f or any voice/f ax channel to be connected to an E&M trunk that is not a T ype 2 (the default position).

When the Multi-T ech Installation CD dialog box displa ys , click the Install Software icon.

17 Configure Host MultiVOIP 11. The IP Pr otocol Default Setup dialog bo x displays. The def ault Frame T ype is TYPE_II . If this does not match your IP netw ork, change the F rame T ype by selecting SNAP from the Frame T ype list. The av ailab le F rame T ype choices are TYPE_II and SNAP .
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 18 13. The Channel Setup dialog bo x displa ys. It is used to define the voice/f ax channel interface, v oice coder , f ax parameters, billing options , security settings, and regional phone parameters (tone pairs) f or each channel.
19 Configure Host MultiVOIP the FXO option. Check with your in-house telephone personnel to v erify connection type. If you are connecting to an E&M trunk on y our PBX, then choose E&M option. If the E&M interf ace is selected, the E&M Options group is enabled.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 20 specific type of FXO Disconnect: current loss, tone detection , or silence detection . Check with your in- house phone personnel to verify the pref erred type of disconnect to use. For tone detection , y ou can select from the lists either one or two tones that will cause the line to disconnect.
21 Configure Host MultiVOIP 16. T o change the voice coder , select the channel from the Select Channel list, then select the new voice coder entry from the V oice Coder list. If you changed the v oice coder , ensure that the same v oice coder is used on the voice/f ax channel y ou are calling.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 22 Note: After configuring a given channel, y ou can cop y that channel’ s configuration to any other channel by clicking Copy .
23 Configure Host MultiVOIP If your country/region is not the default USA, clic k the Regional tab and proceed to step 23. Otherwise, proceed to step 24 to begin building your phone directory database. 23. T o change the T one Pairs on the Regional tab , select your country or region from the Country/Region list.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 24 The MultiV OIP configured as a “Host” will contain the host database. The host database has the phone n umbers of all the MultiV OIPs a v ailable f or comm unication on an I P network. This database is downloaded to each Client MultiV OIP as it comes online.
25 Configure Host MultiVOIP 27. The Description is optional, b ut can be useful in associating the channel to the e xtension. If you w ant, enter a description of your local phone number . This description identifies the phone number you entered in the pre vious step .
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 26 30. Cli c k OK and y ou are retur ned to the Phone Directory Database dialog bo x, which now includes phone number 101 with its IP address, channel number , and description. 31. Cli c k Add and the Add/Edit Phone Entry dialog box displa ys again.
27 Configure Host MultiVOIP 34. Enter the IP address of the remote MultiVOIP in the IP Address bo x in the MultiVOIP Identification group . F o r e xample, 202.56.39.100. 35. Cli c k OK and you are returned to the Phone Director y Database dialog bo x, which now includes the second number and related inf o rmation in the Phone Number list.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 28 37. The Checking MultiV OIP dialog bo x displa ys . Clic k OK to proceed. 38. After the setup is wr itten to the MultiV OIP , the unit is rebooted. 39. V erify that the BOO T LED on the MultiV OIP is off after the download is complete .
29 Configure Client MultiVOIPs Configuring Your Client MultiVOIPs If you are installing a MultiV OIP behind a firewall, y ou need to add the f ollowing UDP por ts to y our firew all.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 30 4. In the P ort Address group , enter the IP Address and IP Mask . In the Gatewa y Ad dress g roup , enter the gatewa y IP address f or the client unit. The IP address is your unique LAN IP address , and the Gatew a y address is the IP address of the de vice connected to the Inter net/Intr anet.
31 Configure Client MultiVOIPs (KTS) to the V oice/F ax connector on the back of the unit, FXS (Loop Start) will lik ely be the correct Interf ace option most of the time. If the station de vice uses ground star t, then choose the FXS (Ground Start) option.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 32 elapses between digits and the wrong numbers are mapped, you hear a rapid b usy signal. If this happens , hang up and dial again. This option is av ailab le f or all interf ace types. In the Flash Timer bo x, enter the time , in milliseconds, f or the duration of flash hook signals output on the FXO or FXS interf ace.
33 Configure Client MultiVOIPs 7. Repeat the abov e steps to configure the interf ace type f or each v oice/f ax channel. The V oice/Fax tab displa ys the parameters f or the v oice coder , faxing, and DTMF gain.

If y ou do not plan to send or receive f axes on a giv en voice/f ax channel, you can disable f ax es in the F ax group . Note: After configuring a given channel, y ou can cop y that channel’ s configuration to an y other channel by clic king Copy .
35 Configure Client MultiVOIPs bo x. The def ault v alue of 180 seconds can be changed to any other value up to 65,535 (roughly 18.2 hours). If your country/region is not the default USA, click the Regional tab and proceed to step 15. Otherwise, proceed to step 16 to begin building your phone directory database.
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 36 In the Database T ype group, clic k the Client option. The Update Database From group becomes activ e . 17. Enter the IP address of the host MultiVOIP in the Host IP Address bo x. 18. Cli c k OK and you are returned to the main menu.
37 Deploy VOIP Network Repeat this procedure f or each of the client units. When all clients hav e been configured, proceed with deplo ying the V OIP network .
MultiVOIP Quick Start Guide 38 Remote Site Administrator 3. Unpack y our MultiVOIP . 4. Connect one end of the power supply to a liv e AC outlet and connect the other end to the P o wer connection on y our MultiV OIP .
39 Deploy VOIP Network on the back of the MultiV OIP and the other end to the trunk phone jack. 7. Repeat the abov e step to connect the remaining telephone equipment to each V oice/F ax Channel on y our MultiV OIP . 8. T ur n on power to the MultiV OIP by placing the ON/OFF s witch on the bac k panel to the ON position.
