Performing Basic Management Functions Page 4-3 Setting Community Strings Community strings define access r ights for r eading and wr iting SNMP data objects for a device. The community strings (read and write) for an AsantéHub 1016-IQ are manually set in the AsantéHub 1016-IQ via its console port.

Occasionally , these files should be updated from the Device P age to ensure that you ar e viewing the AsantéHub 1016-IQ’ s latest information.
Management Page 4-8 Viewing General Device Information General device inf or mation includes items such as the AsantéHub 1016- IQ’ s version and revision numbers, chassis type, backplane type, and backplane revision number . T o view g eneral device information: 1 Click Device .

Management Page 4-10 Enabling/Disabling Ports The enabling or disabling of a port is a manual operation that can be used to isolate devices possibl y causing problems on the network or to prevent unauthorized use of a port or station. T o enable or disable a port: 1 Click Ports .

Management Page 4-12 Partitioning a Port P or t partitioning is an operation that is done automatically by the AsantéHub 1016-IQ in certain circumstances to stop transmission on a port, if the port is ena bled f or automatic par titioning.
Resetting the AsantéHub 1016-IQ Page 4-13 Resetting the AsantéHub 1016-IQ If you c hanged the IP address, subnet mask, and/or default gatewa y information, the AsantéHub 1016-IQ needs to be reset. T o perform a reset: 1 Click Reset . The Device Reset T able appear s, similar to Figure 4-9.

Enabling Authentication Traps Page 4-15 Enabling Authentication T raps The T rap Authentication f eature enables an AsantéHub 1016-IQ to g ener- ate authentication traps. Authentication tr aps are generated when a net- wor k management station with an inv alid community string attempts to access the AsantéHub 1016-IQ.
Management Page 4-16 Managing T rap Receivers The T rap Receivers menu allows you to determine which management stations on your netw ork can receive tr aps from the AsantéHub 1016- IQ. This section describes how to add and delete a trap receiv er’ s entr y .

Management Page 4-18 Setting Alarms Alarm thresholds can help you locate problems or f aults on the net- work . When you set a threshold f or an activity on an AsantéHub 1016-IQ, you instruct the AsantéHub 1016-IQ to take a specific action when a value falls abov e or below the set threshold.

Viewing Statistics Page 4-25 Viewing Statistics Statistics for an AsantéHub 1016-IQ can be vie wed at the device, group, or port level in two differ ent formats: table or graph. Statistics col- lected include runts, alignment er rors, late collisions, shor t events, good frames, and bad frames.

Ports Page 5-7 Field Description Jabber Status Read-only field; displays the status of the Jabber Detec- tor . Note: A Jabber Detector is a device that helps prevent a node from transmitting constantly; for example, if the node is malfunctioning. ❏ on — jabber detector is on.
Menus Page 5-8 Agent This menu provides read-onl y and configurable information on the device’ s SNMP agent. T able 5-6 describes each field in the Agent menu. Table 5-6 Agent Menu Field Description SWV ersion Major Read-only field; displays the major software version num- ber of the device.
Network Page 5-9 Network This menu provides configurab le network access inf or mation for the device. This information is needed to access the device across the net- wor k (in-band mana gement). T able 5-7 describes each field in the Networ k menu.
Menus Page 5-10 SWUpgrade This menu provides read-onl y and configurable software upg rade and boot method information (the parameters used for downloading a ne w version of software) f or the device. T able 5-8 describes each field in the SWUpgrade menu.
SWUpgrade Page 5-11 Field Description Remote Boot Protocol Configurable field; determines the remote boot protocol used to load the device’ s software. ❏ bootpTftp — sets the device to request an IP address from a BootP server and to load the soft- ware from a TFTP server .
Menus Page 5-12 Control This menu is not a management option; it is a title for the sub-menus listed below it. This menu cannot be selected. Reset This menu allows you to r eset the AsantéHub 1016-IQ. T able 4-9 describes each field in the Reset menu.
Partition Page 5-13 Partition This menu allows you to configur e a por t for automatic partitioning. T able 5-10 describes each field in the P ar tition menu. ∆ Note: For instructions on using this menu, see “P artitioning a P or t” on pa ge 4-12.
Menus Page 5-14 Threshold This menu displays the current alarms that are set and allows alarms to be added or modified. Alarms can help you locate problems or f aults on the network. When you set an alarm threshold f or an activity on a hub, you instruct the hub to take a specific action when the value falls abov e or below the set threshold.
Threshold Page 5-15 Field Description TPort (target port) Configurable field; determines the port number for which the alarm is being set. Important: This field only needs to be edited if the T ar- get Domain is set to port. T arget Subject Configurable field; determines the counter to be polled.
Menus Page 5-16 Field Description Startup Event Configurable field; determines when the alarm is to be triggered. ❏ rising — alarm is triggered when the event rate rises above the threshold. ❏ falling — alarm is triggered when the event rate falls below the threshold.
