2 TABLE OF CONTENTS FINDING MODEL NUMBER This Operator’s Ma nual is an important part of your new lawn tractor. It will help you assemble, pr epare and maintain the unit fo r best performance.
3 SECTION 1: IMPORTANT SAFE OPERATION PRACTICES WARNING: This symbol points out impor tant saf ety instructions which, if not f ollowed, could e ndanger the personal saf ety and/or proper ty of you rself and others . 8 SECTION 3: TRACTOR SET-UP NOTE: Reference to right or le ft hand side of t he unit is observed from the drive r’s seat, facing forward. Tools Required For Assembly (1) 1/2" socket wre nch (fo.
9 Gas and Oil Fill-up The gasoline tan k is located under the hood and has a capacity of one a nd-a-half gallons. Do not overfill. WARNING: Use e xt reme care whe n handling gasoline . Gasoline is ext remely flammab le and the v apors are e x plosiv e.
10 SECTION 4: KNOW YOUR LAWN TRACTOR Figure 4 Ignition Switch The ignition switch is located on the right side of th e tractor’s dash.To start the eng ine, insert the key into th e ignition switch and turn clockwise to the START position. Rele ase the key int o the ON position once engine has fired.
11 Speed Control Lev er The speed control lever, located on the right side of the center console , allows you to regulate th e ground speed of the lawn tract or. To use, depress the clutch- brake pedal an d move the lever out of th e parking brake notc h and forward to increase the trac tor’s ground spee d.
12 • The engine will automatically sh ut off if the operator leaves the tractor’s seat with the deck engagement/ lift lever in ANY position other than BLADES STOP. • The engine will automatically shut off if the deck engagement/ lift lever is moved out of the BLADES STOP position with the sh ift lever in R (reverse).
13 • Release clutc h-brake pe dal slowly t o put unit in to motion. • The lawn tractor is brought to a stop by depressing the clutch-brake ped al. NOTE: When operating the unit initially, there will be little diff erence betwe en the highest two speeds until after the belt s have seated the mselves into the pull eys during the brea k-in period.
14 SECTION 6: MAKING ADJUSTMENTS WARNING: Ne ver attempt to m ake any adjustments while t he engine is running, except where specified in the ope rator’ s manual. WARNING: Disconnect the spa rk plug wire(s) and gro und against the en gine bef ore perf or ming any adjustments , repairs or maintenance .
15 The cutting d eck engagem ent may be ad justed to make certain the deck is dise ngaged when deck engagement/lif t lever is in the BLADES STOP position. Correct adjustment as foll ows. • With the engine off, place the deck engagement/ lift lever in the BLAD ES OFF positi on.
16 • Loosen, but do NOT remove, the hex nut foun d on the right side of th e brake assembly. See Figure 9. • Using a fee ler gauge, set the gap between the brake disc and the brak e puck at .0 11" . • Re-tighten the hex nut loosened earlier.
17 Engine Refer to the Briggs & Stratton Operator/Owner Manual (or Tecumseh engine’s Owner’s Manua l) for engine mai ntenance instructions . Check engine oil level bef ore each use as instructe d in the Briggs & Stratton Operator/O wner Manual (o r Tecumseh engine’s Owner ’s Manual) packed with you r unit.
18 SECTION 8: SERVICE WARNING: Disconnect the spark plug wire and gro und against th e engine bef ore performing a ny adjustments, repairs or maintenance .
19 • Remove the hairp in clips which secure the rear deck hangers to the deck stabilizer bracket. See Figure 17. Retain the hairpin clips. Figure 17 NOTE: The style and shap e the stablizer bracket a nd stablizer rod var y. Yours may di ffer slightly from th at shown in Figure 17.
20 It is important that each cutting blade edge be ground equally to maintain pr oper blade balance. A poorly balanced blade will cause ex cessive vibration and may cause damage to the tractor and result in personal injury. The blade can be test ed by balancing it on a round shaft screwdriver.
21 Deck Belt WARNING: Shut the engine of f , remov e ignition k e y , set the par king brak e, disconnect the spark plug wire(s) and g rou nd against the engine to pre vent unintended starting bef ore removing the cutting deck. WARNING: Alwa ys wear saf ety glasses or saf ety goggles to protect y our eye s while removing the cutting deck.

Be careful not t o lose the spacer and be certain NOT reinstall the spacer up side down. • Remove the lower dr ive belt from around the lower portion of the variable speed pu lley and feed it toward the shift cover panel ope ning.
