Disposal of the packing material The transport and protective packing has been selected from materials which are environmentally friendly for disposal, and can normally be recycled. This appliance complies with all relevant local and national safety requirements. Improper use can, however, present a risk of both personal injury and material damage. To avoid the risk of accidents and damage to the appliance, please read these instructions carefully before installation and before using it for the first time.
Technical safety ~ Before setting up the appliance, check it for any externally visible damage. Do not install and use a damaged appliance. A damaged appliance is dangerous. ~ If the connection cable is faulty it must only be replaced by a service technician authorised by the manufacturer to protect the user from danger.
~ The electrical safety of this appliance can only be guaranteed when continuity is complete between it and an effective earthing system which complies with current local and national safety regulations.
Correct use ~ Never handle frozen food with wet hands. Your hands may freeze to the frozen food. Danger of frost burn. ~ Do not take ice cubes out with your bare hands and never place ice cubes or ice lollies in your mouth straight from the freezer. The very low temperature of the frozen ice or lollies can cause frost burn to the lips and tongue.
~ The appliance is designed for use within certain climate ranges (ambient temperatures), and should not be used outside this range. The climate range for your appliance is stated on the data plate inside the appliance. Installing it in a room with too low an ambient temperature, e.

Before using for the first time The stainless steel surface has a layer of protective foil to prevent scratching during transportation. ^ Do not remove this foil until the appliance has been installed or built in. ^ After removing the protective foil, treat external surfaces with a suitable stainless steel conditioning agent (available from www.
Cool pack Place the cool pack in the top freezer drawer or to save space on the freezer tray. The cool pack will be at its most effective after it has been in the freezer for approx. 24 hours. Switching off ^ Touch the On/Off sensor until all of the indicators go out.
Switching the sensor tones on/off The sensor tone which sounds each time a sensor is touched can be deactivated. ^ Touch and leave your finger on the X sensor. ^ At the same time, briefly touch the On/Off sensor (without letting go of the X sensor). ^ Leave your finger on the X sensor for another 5 seconds until c appears in the display.
You have now left the settings mode. The safety lock indicator X will light up in the temperature display when the safety lock has been activated. Switching off for longer periods of time If the appliance is not going to be used for a longer period of time, e.
It is very important to set the correct temperature for storing food in the appliance. Micro-organisms will cause food which is not stored at the correct temperature to deteriorate rapidly. Temperature influences the growth rate of these micro-organisms.
If you have adjusted the temperature, wait for approx. 6 hours if the appliance is not very full and for approx. 24 hours if the appliance is full before checking the temperature display as it will take this long for the display to give an accurate reading.
Your appliance has been fitted with a warning system which ensures that the temperature in the appliance cannot rise unnoticed and to avoid energy being wasted if the door is left open. Activating the alarm system The alarm system is always active. It does not have to be switched on manually.
Door alarm The alarm will sound if the door is left open for more than approx. 2 minutes. The alarm off sensor will light up red and the "Freezing" symbol will flash. The alarm will stop and the indicators will go out as soon as the door is closed.
Super freeze Switch the Super freeze function on before putting fresh food into the freezer. This helps food to freeze quickly and retain its nutrients, vitamins, flavours and appearance. Super freeze is not necessary: – when placing food in the freezer that is already frozen.
Maximum freezing capacity To ensure that fresh food placed in the freezer freezes through to the core as quickly as possible, the maximum freezing capacity must not be exceeded. The maximum freezing capacity for freezing within a 24-hour period is given on the data plate: "Freezing capacity .
Example If you only require 3 freezer drawers as well as the freezer tray for storing frozen food: ^ Place food in the top 3 freezer drawers, leaving the other drawers empty. ^ Take out the fourth drawer down and place the isolation plate under the third drawer.
Home freezing Only freeze fresh food which is in a good condition. Hints on home freezing – The following types of food are suitable for freezing: Fresh meat, poultry, game, fish, vegetables, herbs, fresh fruit, dairy products, pastry, leftovers, egg yolks, egg whites and a range of pre-cooked meals.
Before placing food in the freezer ^ When freezing more than 2 kg of fresh food, switch on the Super freeze function for some time before placing the food in the freezer (see "Super freeze"). This also helps to prevent food that is already in the freezer from starting to defrost.
Defrosting Frozen food can be defrosted in different ways: – in a microwave oven, – in an oven using the "Fan" or "Defrost" setting, – at room temperature, – in the refrigerator (the cold given off by the frozen food helps to keep the other food cold), – in a steam oven.
Freezer tray The freezer tray is useful for freezing small items such as berries, herbs and vegetables. They can be frozen individually and therefore maintain their shape when defrosted. ^ Space the food out loosely on the tray. Leave the food for 10-12 hours to freeze thoroughly on the tray.
This freezer is equipped with a Frost free system. The freezer defrosts automatically. The moisture generated by defrosting collects in the condensor and is automatically dissipated by the condensor from time to time.
A range of Miele cleaning and conditioning agents is available from the Miele UK Spare Parts Department or via the internet at www.miele-shop.com. Never use cleaning agents containing abrasive substances such as sand, soda, acids, chlorides or chemical solvents.
Door seal Do not use any oils or grease on the door seal. These will cause the seal to deteriorate and become porous over time. The door seal should be cleaned regularly with clean water and then wiped dry with a soft cloth.
Repairs to electrical appliances should only be carried out by a suitably qualified and competent person in strict accordance with current local and national safety regulations. Repairs and other work by unqualified persons could be dangerous. The manufacturer cannot be held liable for unauthorised work.
. . . the alarm sounds and the alarm off sensor flashes. The temperature in the freezer is too warm, because ^ the door has been opened too frequently, or large amounts of fresh food have been put in at once for freezing. ^ the ventilation gaps are blocked.
. . . there is a build-up of frost on the front panel of the frost-free system. This is not a fault. Droplets of condensate have settled on it and frozen. This may have been caused by one of the following: ^ The appliance door has been opened frequently or left open for a while.
Normal noises What causes them Brrrrr... Humming noise made by the motor (compressor). This noise can get louder for brief periods when the motor is switching on. Blubb, blubb.... A gurgling noise can be heard when coolant is circulating through the pipes.

Do not place any appliance which gives off heat, such as a toaster or microwave oven, on top of this appliance, as this would increase the appliance's energy consumption. This appliance has side-wall heating and can be installed side-by-side with another refrigeration appliance.
Ventilation Air at the back of the appliance gets warm. To ensure sufficient ventilation, the air inlet and outlet must not be covered or blocked in any way. They should be dusted on a regular basis. Installation ^ Remove the cable clip from the back of the appliance.

To avoid a build-up of condensation and resultant damage, refrigerators and freezers should not normally be installed side-by-side. However, this appliance has side wall heating, and can be installed side-by-side with certain other Miele appliances. Your dealer will be able to advise you on which models are suitable.
^ Close the doors to check whether the door handles are correctly aligned with one another. The top of both appliances must be the same height. If they are not, the covers will not fit properly. ^ Push the two appliances together, and align them again.
^ Position wide brackets j at the top and bottom on the back, and push the top bracket upwards until it is in the correct position (z). ^ Secure the brackets at the sides using hex screws k supplied. Do not drill holes for these screws in the appliance.
^ Push short trim m into the gap at the top of the appliances. Make sure that the gap in the trim faces the front. The trim must sit flush with the top of the appliances at the front. ^ Fit cover n in the space between the control panels. Make sure that the outer edges of the cover are flush with the control panels.
To change the door hinging you will need the following tools : – a cross-slotted screwdriver, – a flat-bladed screwdriver, – a selection of Torx screwdrivers, – a spanner. Two people are needed for changing the door hinging. Removing the door handle ^ Pull door handle a towards you.
Removing the soft-close door mechanism The soft-close door mechanism is at the bottom of the door. ^ Open the appliance door. ^ Gently remove panel a from the soft-close mechanism by inserting a flat-bladed screwdriver into the gap from above and easing it off bit by bit.
^ Slide soft-close mechanism bracket f as far as it will go towards the handle side of the door, and undo screws g on the soft-close mechanism. ^ Using a flat-bladed screwdriver, slide the soft-close door mechanism towards the handle side of the door, and slide it out at the side.
^ Then separate retainer f from cover e , by pushing it slightly to the left and then pulling the cover forwards and off. ^ Rotate retainer f by 180°. ^ Then fit cover e from the front over retainer f , and slide it over to the right. The writing must be visible.
^ Unscrew part h from hinge plate f , rotate it by 180° and refit into the hole on the opposite side of the hinge plate. ^ Refit cover b on the opposite side. ^ With the help of another person, carefully tip the appliance back and refit hinge pin c into hinge plate f .
^ Slide the soft-close mechanism back into the door as far as it will go towards the appliance using a flat-headed screwdriver. The screw holes on the left and right must line up perfectly. ^ First fix the soft-close mechanism onto the appliance side, then onto the handle side c , pushing it firmly towards the appliance.
Aligning the appliance The appliance door can be aligned to the housing using the outer long slots in the lower hinge plate. In the following illustration the door is shown open to make it easier to see what you have to do. ^ Remove centre screw a from the hinge plate.
Refitting the handle Please make sure you follow the instructions below carefully when you refit the handle. The door seal will be damaged if the handle is fitted incorrectly. ^ Loosely attach the handle to the opposite side of the door with the two front screws b .
