115 ķ Introduction Thank you for purchasing a Metz product. W e are happy to welcome you as a customer . Of course, you are excited to start using the flash unit right away . However , it is worthwhile reading the operating instructions first to lear n how to use the flash correctly .
116 ķ 2 Dedicated flash functions Dedicated flash functions are flash functions that have been specially adapted to a given camera system. Depending on the type of camera, different flash func- tions are supported.

A V58-50 connecting cable (optional) is necessar y for connecting the Power Pack P76 to the flash unit.

122 ķ 5.5 Automatic fill-in flash mode When shooting in automatic fill-in flash mode in daylight, the automatic flash mode will automatically set a correction of between -1 and -2 f-stops to compensate for flash exposures (see 6.4 and 10.5). This has a graduated lightening effect on shadowy areas, which has a natural appearance on the photograph.

124 ķ 6 Flash parameters (Parameter menu) For the flash unit to operate correctly , various flash parameters such as the zoom position of the main reflector , aper ture, ISO light sensitivity , etc. have to be adjusted to match the camera. When using the flash unit with cameras in Group A (see table 1), these parame- ters have to be set by hand.
125 ķ 6.2 Aper ture (F) If there is no digital data transfer between the camera and flash unit, for exam- ple with cameras from Group A (see table 1) or when using non-CPU-capable lenses, the aperture can be manually set from 1.0 to 45 (at ISO 100), in full f- stop inter vals.
126 ķ 6.4 Flash exposure correction (EV) Manual flash exposure correction (EV) can help offset extreme dif ferences in contrast between the subject and background. Corrections from -3 f-stops (EV) to +3 f-stops (EV) can be made, in 1/3 increments (also see 10.
127 ķ 6.6 Manual par tial light output (P) In the manual mode and the strobe mode , the light output can also be adjusted to fit the shooting situation with the manual partial light output para- meter (P). Settings in manual flash mode M range from P 1/1 (full light output) to P 1/256, in inter vals of 1/3.

129 ķ 7.3 Flash Bracketing Series (FB) A series of flash exposures (flash-bracketing FB) can be carried out in the and automatic flash modes. A flash bracketing series consists of three successive flash shots with different flash exposure correction values.
130 ķ Example: The focal length of the camera lens is 50 mm. The extended zoom mode sets a 35 mm reflector position on the flash unit. However , 50 mm continues to be shown on the display . • When „Ext ON“ is displayed, the extended zoom mode is activated.
131 ķ 7.6 Cordless remote mode (Remote) • When „Remote OFF“ appears, the cordless remote mode is deactivated. • When „Remote Master“ appears, the flash unit is operating as a guiding master flash unit on the camera. • When „Remote Slave“ appears, the flash unit is operating completely as a sla- ve flash unit.
132 ķ 7.8 Secondar y reflector The secondar y reflector is used for frontal brightening in the case of indirect ligh- ting when the main reflector is pivoted to the side or upwards (see 10.3). If the secondar y reflector produces too much light, it can be reduced to 1/2 or 1/4 .
133 ķ 7.10 Auto OFF Function (Standby) T o save batter y power and prevent inadver tent batter y discharge, the flash unit is factor y-set to automatically switch over to standby mode, while flash re.
134 ķ 7.11 KEYLOCK The KEYLOCK function enables the user to lock the buttons on the flash unit to prevent them from inadvertently being pressed. When the KEYLOCK function is activated, a symbol appears on the display above the two middle but- tons.
135 ķ 8 Motor Zoom Reflector The zoom position of the main reflector can be adjusted for focal lengths of at least 24 mm (35 mm format). For lenses with focal lengths of 12 mm or more, the integrated wide-angle diffuser can be positioned over the main reflector .
136 ķ 10 Flash techniques 10.1 Bounce flash Bounce flash illuminates the subject more softly and reduces dense shadows. It also reduces the drop in light from foreground to background that occurs for physical reasons. The main reflector of the flash unit can be swivelled horizontally and tilted vertically for bounce flash.
137 ķ 10.5 Manual flash exposure corrections The auto flash exposure mode of the flash unit, as of most cameras, is adjusted to a reflection factor of 25% (the average reflection factor of flash subjects).
138 ķ 13 Correct exposure indication The correct exposure indication „OK“ only lights up if the shot was correctly exposed in TTL flash mode (3D-TTL, D–TTL, i-TTL, etc.) or automatic flash mode. If no „OK“ exposure indication appears after the shot, then the shot was underexposed.
139 ķ 16 Flash range indication The maximum flash range is indicated on the display panel of the flash unit. The value indicated relates to subjects with a reflection factor of 25%, which applies to most photographic situations.
ķ 17 Flash exposure memor y Some Group E cameras (see T able 1) have flash exposure memor y (FV memo- r y). This is supported by the flash unit in i-TTL flash mode. It can be used to defi- ne and store the exposure level for the subsequent shot before the shot is actual- ly taken.
141 ķ 18.4 Automatic FP high-speed synchronisation V arious Group E cameras (D2Hs and D200, for example) suppor t automatic FP high-speed synchronisation (see the camera’ s operating instructions). This flash mode makes it possible to use a flash unit even with shutter speeds that are faster than the flash sync speed.
142 ķ 21 Wireless remote operation Wireless remote operation is compatible with the Nikon Advanced Wireless Lighting system. In this system, the exposure of one or more slave flash units is controlled remotely by a master flash unit on the camera.
143 ķ 21.2 Settings on the master flash unit • Use the key to access, in succession, the settings for the master flash unit M and the slave groups A, B, and C. • While M, A, B or C is displayed, use the key to set the flash mode (TTL or M). If no flash mode is displayed, the master or group is deactivated.
144 ķ 21.5 Ser vo mode The Ser vo mode is a simple slave mode in which the slave flash unit always triggers a flash as soon as it receives a light pulse. Adjustment procedure for ser vo flash mode • Select a mode for the camera flash unit without pre-flash.
145 ķ 22 Care and maintenance Remove dust and grime with a soft dr y cloth or silicon-treated cloth. Do not use cleaning agents as these may damage the plastic parts. 22.1 Firmware updates The flash unit’ s fir mware can be updated through the USB port and adjusted to the technical requirements of future cameras (Firmware Update).
