Black plate (289,1) Engine Coolant q Inspecting Coolant Level WARNING Do not use a match or live flame in the engine compar tment. DO NOT ADD COOLANT WHEN T HE ENG INE IS HOT: A hot engine is dangerous. If the engine has been running, parts of the engine compartment can become very hot.
Black plate (290,1) CAUTION Ø Radiator coolant will da mage paint. Rinse it off quickly if spilled. Ø Use only soft (demineralized ) water in the coolant mixture. Water that contain s minerals will cut down on the coolant's effectiveness. Ø Don't add only water.
Black plate (291,1) Brake/Clutch Fluid q Inspecting Brake/Clutc h Fluid Level The brakes and clutch draw fluid from the same reservoir . Inspect the fluid level in the reservoir regularly . It should be kept at MAX. The level normally drops with accumulated distance, a condition associated with wear o f brake and clut ch linings.
Black plate (292,1) Power Steering Fluid q Inspecting Power Steering Fluid Level CAUTION To avoid damage to the power steering pump, don't operate the vehicle for long peri ods when the power steering fluid level is low. NOTE Use specified power steering fluid (page 10-4).
Black plate (293,1) Automatic T ransaxle Fluid (A TF) í q Inspecting Automatic T ransaxle Fluid Level The automatic transaxle flui d level should be inspected regularly . Measure it as described below . 5A T CAUTION Ø Always check the automatic transaxle fluid level according to the following procedure.
Black plate (294,1) 4A T The volume of fluid changes with temperature. Fluid must be checked while idling the engine without driving at normal operating temperat ure. CAUTION Ø Low fluid level causes transax le slippage. Over filling can ca use foaming, loss of fluid, and transaxle malfunction.
Black plate (295,1) Fully insert the dipstick. When adding fluid, inspect with the dipstick to make sure it doesn't pass full. NOTE Inspect the fluid on both sides of the dipstick in a well lit ar ea for an accurate r eading.
Black plate (296,1) Inspect fluid level in the washer fluid reservoir; add fluid if necessary . T o inspect the washer fluid level in the front reservoir, pull off the cap. Then, holding your thum b over the hole in the center of the cap, lift it straight up.
Black plate (297,1) Wiper Blades CAUTION Ø Hot waxes applied by automatic car washers have been known to affect the wiper's ability to clean windows. Ø To prevent damage to the wiper blades, don't use gasoline, kerosene, paint thinner, or other solvents on or near them.
Black plate (298,1) 2. Pull down the blade rubber and slide it out of blade holder . 3. Remove the metal stiffener from each blade rubber and install them in the new blade. CAUTION Ø Don't bend or discard th e stiffener. You need to use them again.
