Black plate (14,1) Front Seats (Manually Operated Seats) W ARNING Do not modify or replace the front seats: Modifying or repla cing the front seats such as replacing the up holstery or loosening any bolts is d angerous. The front seats contain air bag components essential to the supplemental restraint system.
Black plate (15,1) Make sure the lever returns to its original position and the seat is locked in place by attempting to push it forward and backward. q Seat Recline W ARNING Do not drive with the sea.
Black plate (16,1) CAUTION When returning a rear-reclined seatbac k to its upright position, make sure you hold onto the seatback with your other hand while operating the lever . If the seatback is not suppor ted, it will flip forward suddenly and could cause injury .
Black plate (17,1) q Seat W armer í The front seats are electrica lly heated. The ignition switch must be in the ON position. Press the switch to turn the seat warmer on or off. When the switch is in the ON position, the indicator light will come on.
Black plate (18,1) CAUTION l The seat-bottom powe r adjustment is operated by motors. A void extended operation because excessive use can damage the motors. l T o prevent the battery from running down, avoid using the powe r adjustment when the engine is stopped.
Black plate (19,1) Change the seatb ack angle by pressing the front or rear side of the reclining switch. Release the switch at the desired position. q Height Adjustment Front of seat bottom T o adjust the front height of the seat bottom, raise or low er the front of the slide lifter switch on the left side of the seat.
Black plate (20,1) q Lumbar Support Adjustment T o adjust the lumbar support, pull the lever forward. q Head Restraint W ARNING Always drive with the head restraint s installed when seats are being used and make sure they are properly adjusted: Driving with the head restraint s adjusted too low or removed is dangerous.
Black plate (21,1) NOTE The seat temperature is regulated automatically by a therm ostat. Other than turning it on or off, it cannot be adjusted. Rear Seat W ARNING Make sure luggage and cargo is secu.
Black plate (22,1) Height adjustmen t T o raise a head restraint, pull it up to the desired position. T o lower the head restraint, press the stop- catch release, then push the head restraint down. Adjust the head restraint so that the top is even with the top of the passenger's ears, never the passenge r's neck.
Black plate (23,1) Seat Belt Precautions Seat belts help to d ecrease the possibil ity of severe injury during accidents and sudden stops. Mazda recommends that the driver and all passengers always wear seat belt s. All of the seat belt retr actors are desig ned to keep the lap/shoulder belts out of the way when not in use.
Black plate (24,1) W ARNING Have your seat belts changed immedi ately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy , and the corresponding pretensioner (s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (25,1) q Pregnant W omen and Persons with Serious Medical Conditions Pregnant women shoul d always wear seat belts. Ask you r doctor for specific recommendations. The lap belt should be worn SNUGL Y AND AS LOW AS POSSIBLE OVER THE HIPS. The shoulder belt should be worn across your shoulder properly , but never across the stomach area.
Black plate (26,1) Seat Belt (Except Center - Rear Position) NOTE When using the cen ter-rear seat belt, refer to “ Center-Rear Position Seat Belt ” (page 2-18). q Fastening the Seat Belt 1. Grasp the tongue. 2. Slowly pull out the lap/shoul der belt.
Black plate (27,1) q Unfastening the Seat Belt Depress the button on the buckle. If the belt does not fully retract, pull it out and check for kinks or twists. Then make sure it remains untwisted as it retracts. Button NOTE If a belt does not fully retract, inspect it for kinks and twists.
Black plate (28,1) Front Seat Belt Pr etensioner and Load Limiting Systems For optimum protection, the driver and front passenger seat belts are equipped with pretensioner and load limiting systems. For both these syst ems to work properly you must wear the seat belt properly .
Black plate (29,1) W ARNING Have your seat belt s changed immediately if the pretensioner or load limiter has been expended: One or both front air bags may deploy , and the corresponding preten sioner(s) may also deploy at the same time.
Black plate (30,1) q Air Bag/Front Seat Belt Pretensioner Systems W arning Light If the air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system is working properly , the warning light illuminates when the ignition switch is turned to the ON po sition or after the engine is cranked.
Black plate (31,1) W ARNING Fastening the Center-Rea r Seat Belt with Only One Buckle: Fastening the center -rear seat belt with only one buckle is dangerous. If only one pair o f seat belt tongue and buckle, either tongue (A) and anchor buckle (B) or tongue (C) and anchor buckle (D), is fastened, the seat belt cannot provide full protection.
Black plate (32,1) q Unfastening the Lap Portion of the Seat Belt Insert a smal l object such as a key in the anchor buckle (B) slot. (B) (A) NOTE T o encourage rear seat passengers to wear their seat belts, we sugges t leaving the center-rear lap position of the belt fastened at all times.
Black plate (33,1) Seat Belt Extender If your seat belt is not long enough, even when fully extended, a seat belt extender may be available to you at no charge from your Authorized Mazda Dealer . This extender will be only for you and for the particular vehicle and seat.
Black plate (34,1) Seat Belt W arning Light/Beep The seat belt war ning light ill uminates and a beep sound will be heard if the driver's seat belt is not fastened when the ignition switch is turne d to the ON position.
Black plate (35,1) Driver seated/Front passenge r seated The seat belt warning ligh t/beep reminds the front passenger to fasten the seat belt according to the chart below .
Black plate (36,1) Child Restraint Precautions Mazda strongly urges the use of child-restrai nt systems for children small enough to use them. Y ou are requi red by law to use a child-restraint system for children in the U.
Black plate (37,1) W ARNING Use the correct size child-restrain t system: For effective protection in vehicle accide nts and sudden stops, a c hild must be properly restrained using a seat belt or child-restrai nt system depending on age and size. If not, the child could be seriously injur ed or even killed in an accident.
Black plate (38,1) W ARNING Do not install a front-facing child-restrai nt system on the front passenger seat unless it is unavoidable: In a collision, the force of a deploy ing air bag could cause seri ous injury or death to the child.
Black plate (39,1) W ARNING Do not allow a child to lean over or against the side window of a vehicl e with side and curtain air bags: It is dangerous to allow anyone to lean over or against the side .
Black plate (40,1) Installing Child-Restraint Systems Accident statist ics reveal that a child is safer in the rear seat. The front passen ger's seat is clearly the worst choice for any child under 12, and wi th rear-facing child- restraint systems it is clear ly unsafe due to air bags.
Black plate (41,1) 1. Secure the child-restraint system with the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt. See the manufacturer's instruct ions on the child-restraint system for belt routing instructions.
Black plate (42,1) W ARNING Use the tether and tether anchor on ly for a child-restraint system: Using the tethe r or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-rest raint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tether or tethe r anchor and result in injury.
Black plate (43,1) W ARNING Use the tether and tether anchor on ly for a child-restraint system: Child-restraint system anchorages are designed to withst and only those loads imposed by correctly installed child- restraint systems.
Black plate (44,1) NOTE l T o check if your front seats have side air bags: Mazda vehicles equipp ed with side air bag will have a “ SRS AIRBAG ” tag on the outboard shoulder of the front seats.
Black plate (45,1) W ARNING Do not allow a child to lean over or against the side window of a vehicl e with side an d curtain air bags: It is dangerous to allow anyone to lean over or against the side.
Black plate (46,1) NOTE l Inspect this function before each use of the child-restraint system. Y ou should not be able to pull the shoulder belt out of the retractor while the system is in the automatic locking mode.
Black plate (47,1) LA TCH Child-Restraint Systems Y our Mazda is equipped with LA TCH lower anchors for atta chment of specially designed LA TCH child-res traint systems in the rear seat. Both anc hors must be used, otherwise the seat will bounce around and put the child in danger .
Black plate (48,1) q LA TCH Child-Restraint System Installation Procedure (Rear Outboard Seats) 1. Expand the area between the seat bottom and the seatback slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors.
Black plate (49,1) W ARNING Always route the tether stra p between the head restraint and the seatback: Routing the tethe r strap on top of the head restraint is dan gerous. In a collision the tether strap could sli de off the head restraint and loose n the child-restraint syst em.
Black plate (50,1) 2. Expand the area between the seat bottom and the seatback slightly to verify the locations of the LA TCH lower anchors. NOTE The markings above the LA TCH lowe r anchors indicate the locations of LA TCH lower anchors for the attachment of a child-res traint system.
Black plate (51,1) W ARNING Use the tether and tether anchor on ly for a child-restraint system: Using the tethe r or tether anchor to secure anything but a child-rest raint system is dangerous. This could weaken or damage the tether or tethe r anchor and result in injury.
Black plate (52,1) Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) Precautions The front and side supplementa l restraint systems (SRS) include up to 6 air bags (verify “ SRS AIRBAG ” location indi cator marks).
Black plate (53,1) W ARNING Seat belts must be wor n in air bag equipped vehicl es: Depending only on the air bags for protection during an accident is dangerou s.
Black plate (54,1) W ARNING Sit in the center of the seat and wear seat belts properly: Sitting too close to the side air bag modules or placing hands on them is extremely dangerous. The side air bags inflate with great force and speed directly out of the outboard side of the front seat and expand along the front door on the side the car is hit.
Black plate (55,1) W ARNING Do not touch the components of the supplemental restraint system after the air bags have inflated: T ouching the components of the supplemental restraint syst em after the air bags have inflated is dangerous. Immedi ately after inflation , they are very hot.
Black plate (56,1) NOTE l When an air bag deploys, a loud inflati on noise can be heard and some smoke will be released. Neither is likely to cause injury , however, the texture of the air bags may cause light skin injuries on body parts not covered with clothing through fric tion.
