This remarkable component has been engineered to provide you with many years of home theater enjoyment. Please take a few minutes to read this manual thoroughly before you connect and operate the SR4001/SR5001.
2 ENGLISH Dolby Pro Logic II x is fully compatible with Dolby Surround Pro Logic technology and can optimally decode the thousands of commercially available Dolby Surround encoded video cassettes and television programs with enhanced depth and spatiality .
3 ENGLISH FEA TURES The SR4001/SR5001 incorporates the latest generation of digital surround sound decoding technology such as Dolby Digital EX, Dolby Digital, DTS-ES (Discrete 6.1 and Matrix 6.1), DTS Neo:6 (Cinema, Music), Dolby Pro-Logic II x (Movie, Music and Game), Circle Surround II (Cinema and Music).
4 ENGLISH y SURROUND MODE b utton Y ou can select the surround mode by pressing this button. u PURE DIRECT button and indicator When this button is pressed once, “ SOURCE DIRECT ” appears on the FL display . If pressed again, “ PURE DIRECT ” appears.
5 ENGLISH !3 A TT (Attenuate) button If the selected analog audio input signal is greater than the capable level of internal processing, the PEAK indicator will illuminate. If this happens, you should press the A TT button. “ A TT ” is displayed when this function is activated.

8 ENGLISH !0 Subw oofer Output Connect this jack to the line level input of a powered subwoofer . If an external subwoofer amplifi er is used, connect this jack to the subwoofer amplifi er input.
9 ENGLISH 9/NIGHT button Pressing this button prevents the Dolby Digital signal from playback at a loud voice. This function reduces the voice by 1/3 to 1/4 at maximum.
10 ENGLISH ‹2 A UDIO buttons (When D VD mode is selected) Used to select one of the audio language. ‹3 TREBLE +/- buttons These buttons are used to adjust the tone control of high frequency sound for left and right speaker . ‹4 SOURCE b utton These buttons are used to switch the source of your A/V Receiver / amplifer .
11 ENGLISH OPERA TION OF REMOTE CONTROL UNIT REMOTE CONTROL The distance between the transmitter of the remote control and the IR SENSOR of the SR4001/SR5001 should be less than 5 meters. If the remote control is pointed in a direction other than the IR SENSOR or if there is an obstacle between them, use of the remote control may not be possible.
12 ENGLISH GENERAL INFORMA TION OF RC5001SR TO SR4001/SR5001 T o control the SR4001/SR5001 by your RC5001SR, you have to select the device AMP or TUNER by pressing the SOURCE button. Please refer below for the details in AMP and TUNER mode. AMP MODE CAT P.

16 ENGLISH LEARN MODE This remote control is capable of learning and storing codes used by other remote controls that you already own. For codes which are not learned, the remote control will transmit.
17 ENGLISH CONNECTIONS SPEAKER PLACEMENT The ideal surround speaker system for this unit is 7- speaker systems, using front left and right speakers, a center speaker , surround left and right speakers, a surround back left and right speakers, and a subwoofer .
18 ENGLISH Caution: • Be sure to use speakers with the specifi ed impedance as shown on the rear panel of this unit. • T o prevent damage to circuitry , do not let the bare speaker wires touch each other and do not let them touch any metal part of this unit.
19 ENGLISH CONNECTING VIDEO COMPONENTS VIDEO, S-VIDEO , COMPONENT JACKS There are 3 types of video jacks on the rear panel. VIDEO jack The video signal for the VIDEO jacks is the conventional composite video signal. S-VIDEO jack The video signal is separated into luminance (Y) and color (C) signals for the S-VIDEO jack.

21 ENGLISH CONNECTING THE ANTENNA TERMINALS ASSEMBLING THE AM LOOP ANTENNA 1. Release the vinyl tie and take out the connection line. 2. Bend the base part in the reverse direction. 3. Insert the hook at the bottom of the loop part into the slot at the base part.
22 ENGLISH XM RADIO OVERVIEW (SR5001 only) SR5001 is the XM Ready ® receiver . Y ou can receive XM Satellite Radio ® by connecting to the XM Connect- and-Play TM or Possport system (sold separately) and subscribing the XM service. Introducing XM Satellite Radio There’s a world of audio listening pleasure beyond AM and FM.
23 ENGLISH CONNECTING FOR THE MUL TI ROOM (SR5001 only) Note: Y ou can use surround back speaker terminals as multi room speaker terminals when you use no surround back speaker . CONNECTING FOR SPEAKER C USE (SR5001 only) Bi-wire Connection A bi-wire connection is possible with speakers that have two sets of inputs (for treble and bass).
24 ENGLISH HDMI JACK This unit has two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. It can send digital video and audio signals from DVDs and other sources directly to a display . It minimizes signal degradation caused by analog conversion so that high quality images can be enjoyed.
25 ENGLISH SETUP After all components are connected, initial setup must be performed. ON SCREEN DISPLA Y MENU SYSTEM The SR4001/SR5001 incorporates an on-screen menu system, which makes various operations possible by using the cursor ( 3 , 4 , 1 , 2 ) and ENTER buttons on the remote control or on the front panel.
26 ENGLISH 1 INPUT SETUP (ASSIGNABLE DIGIT AL INPUT AND COMPONENT VIDEO INPUT) 4 digital inputs and 2 component video inputs can be assigned to a desired source. Use this menu to select the digital input jack to be assigned to the input source. 1. Select “ INPUT SETUP ” in SETUP MAIN MENU with 3 or 4 cursor button, and press the ENTER button.
27 ENGLISH 2-2 SPEAKERS DIST ANCE Use this parameter to specify the distance of each speaker ’ s position from the listening position. The delay time is automatically calculated according to these distances. Begin by determining the ideal or most commonly used seating position in the room.

29 ENGLISH 8 MUL TI ROOM (SR5001 only) SR5001 has features in MUL TI ROOM SYSTEM such as source selector , sleep timer , Multi Room Speaker output and remote control.
30 ENGLISH SIMPLE SETUP Y ou can setup the speaker conditions quickly with SIMPLE SETUP menu. In this menu, the number of speakers and speaker delay time can be set. These settings can be changed more detail in “2. SPEAKER” setup menu. Press the SIMPLE SETUP button on the unit to enter this menu.

33 ENGLISH SURR OUND MODE The SR4001/SR5001 is equipped with many surround modes. These are provided to reproduce a variety of surround sound effects, according to the content of the source to be played. The available surround modes may be restricted depending on the input signal and speaker setup.
34 ENGLISH CS II -Mono mode This mode plays back monaural recordings from any source, including CDs, DVDs and TV and radio broadcasts in compelling 6.1-channel surround. Notes: • CS I I mode is available for 2ch input signals which are encoded in Dolby Digital or PCM format.
35 ENGLISH The relation between the selected surround mode and the input signal The surround mode is selected with the surround mode selector on SR4001/SR5001 or the remote control unit. However , the sound you hear is subject to the relationship between the selected surround mode and input signal.
36 ENGLISH O THER FUNCTION TV AUTO ON/OFF FUNCTION This function allows the component connected to the TV -VIDEO in jack to control the power (ON/OFF) to the SR4001/SR5001. AUTO POWER ON 1. Be sure the TV auto mode is ENABLED. (Refer page 27 : System Setup) 2.
37 ENGLISH 7.1 CH INPUT The SR4001/SR5001 is equipped for future expansion through the use of Multi channel Super Audio CD multichannel player or DVD-Audio player .
38 ENGLISH AUX2 INPUT If you don’t need to connect 7.1 Ch. input terminals with multi channel decoder , L(front left) and R (front right) inputs terminals are available as AUX2 input. In this case, Y ou can connect additional audio source to AUX2 as other audio input terminals.

42 ENGLISH When the channel Artist name/Song title is displayed: NAME/TITLE Pink Floid / Floid / Money The “NAME/TITLE” is displayed for 2 seconds, followed by the artist’s name and song title. (If artist’s name or song title is more than 13 characters long, the text is scrolled.

46 ENGLISH MUL TI R OOM SYSTEM (SR5001 only) The Multi Room system is a function which allows you to listen to the same or a different source in a room other than the room in which the SR5001 is located. T o use this function, a multi room remote unit and remote control signal receiver available from your Marantz dealer are necessary .
