Section 1: Introduction Thank you for purchasing this Lowrance Ra dar with the RIM 100 radar interface module. Your radar consis ts of three main componen ts: the radar scanner unit, a display unit (s old separately) and the RIM 100 radar interface modu le which connects the scann er unit and the display unit.
rate targets at a distance. The critic al factors are the antenna's beam width and side lobe level. Typicall y, a radar antenna will radiat e a tightly foc used beam fr om the front of the array. The longer the an- tenna array is, the narrower th e beam width.
False echoes Sometimes radar will display t argets on screen that d o not exist in the real world. You should be aware of h ow and why this happens. A. Ghost echoe s Sometimes one larg e object very near your boat will a ppear as two dif- ferent targets onscree n.
Radar interference If another boat's radar is op erating on the sam e frequency as yours, it can create interferenc e on your display. The interferenc e usually appears as sp i r a l o r r a d i a l p a t t e r n s . T h i s r a - dar has an interferenc e rejection control to e liminate interfer ence.
The scanner unit should be m ounted on the cent er line of your vessel in a location that has an unobstructed view forw ard and is as clear as pos- sible the rest of the way ar ound the unit.
The recommended mounting surfac e thickness is 3/8" to 1/2" (9 mm to 13 mm). If the mounting surface is thin, a doubler should be added. I f it is thicker, longer bolts must be purchase d. WARNING: The scanner will be damaged if bolts penetrate more than 9/16" (15 mm).
vent microwave radiation exposure . This antenna is installed cor- rectly. It safely exceeds the recommended separation distance ..
Section 2: Radar Installation Preparations Unpack your new radar and check the contents against the pack ing list. Do not remove the cov er from the unit. Ther e are no connections or ad- justments inside the unit that ar e needed for installation or op eration.
