1 User Guide Introduction Thank you f or purchasing nu • m8 ; the world‟ s f irst location device specifically designed to be worn by children. It is my hope that nu • m8 will make parents f eel.

3 Getting st arte d Remove nu•m8 from its packagin g and place it on charge using the supplied desk top char ger for a full 8 hours before use . The red LED will ill uminate whilst nu•m8 is charging. This will be replaced by the green LED illuminating when nu•m8 is f ully charg ed.
4 To complete the registration process you wi ll need:- the serial numbe r of your nu•m 8, (found on the base o f the packaging) gift certificate nu mber (if applicab le) a valid debi t or credit ca.
5 Now di sconnect the strap from the housin g using the tool p rovided. nu•m8 is now ready for normal use . You can now adj ust t he strap to f it your child ‟ s wrist. Use the release tool located in the back of the charger base t o un- do and re-do the locking screw in the st rap.
6 St art- up PLEA SE NOTE We recommend that you ensure that the time has displayed on nu -m8 before you let your child out to play. T his is a visible indication that nu-m8 is connec t ed. If you have poor network coverage at home this p r ocess may not complete.
7 Wh en the clock appear s on the screen nu• m 8 has logged on to the mobile ph one networ k and you must now g o to the Portal and send nu•m8 the 'Sw itch Off' command.
8 Time The time can only be adjusted fro m the mobile phone set to receiv e alerts. This will be the primary contact details given a t registration. (To change the alerts please see the “Alerts” section bel ow. ) Clock display The nu•m8 display can be adjus ted to show:- Analogue watch or 12 hour digital or 24 hour digital.
9 Using the Customer Por t al - www .lok8u.com/uk/portal To use the custo mer portal please log in usin g the user name and password that w ere chosen at registration The first screen that appears is shown below . Simply click the red cross and the next screen w ill appear.
10 You are now ready to interact w ith nu•m8 using the functionality that is described in the following section s of this manual . If at any time you need assistance just click the “H elp ” button and the following screen w ill appe ar. Simply select the article tha t deals with your query or jus t type you r query in to the search box.
11 As mobile phones have a li mited screen siz e and a less than perfect key pad, some o f the functionality o f the Customer portal from mobiles is av ailable by tex t messaging of ins tructions to n.
12 Where are you request I want to know where my child is now ! This can be done from either your mobil e phone o r desk-top compute r. From you r Mobile To contact nu•m8 via your mobil e phone the “aler ts send to” on the portal must be set to the mo bile phone that you w ill be using to text nu•m8 (see Al erts section 9 below ).
13 From my Desk-top computer ; Log in to the Por tal using the userna me and passw ord that you chose w hen registerin g nu•m8 . Now select the nu• m8 of the child that you wan t to find, or if you want to know whe re all of your nu•m8‟s are, press “Select A ll ” .
14 Now Click the “ where ru ” button ………… … and you will see the following screen It is not possible to cli ck the “ W here ru” button a gain until the Por t al has completed i ts process o f locating your chil d.
15 Once a GPS location is receiv ed the image in the l eft hand panel wi ll change to the ima ge of the nu•m8 selected at registration and the GPS location will be show n on the map.
16 If your child ‟ s cur rent loca tion gives you cause for concern, sel ect “Live T rack” to moni tor where they are goin g. (Section 9, page 26).
17 Maximise map To maximise the viewing map area click on the “ Maximise M ap ” tab This will enl arge the map area to fill the page as f ollows:- You can now dra g the map and pan in or out. Data upda tes wil l not refresh the map. This is particularly use f ul when y ou are reviewi ng a live track trip for example.
18 If a position, o r status change of a nu•m8 is receiv ed whilst in dra g mode, the orange “Dra g Mode” icon will change to grey indicatin g that there is in f ormation pendin g . If you cl ick on the grey ba r the map will update with the latest in formation.
19 Set, appl y and edit a ‘ Safe Zo ne ’ A Safe Z one is an area o n a map where you are happy for your child to play . If they move outside of this area you w ill r eceive an alert (t his may be school, a play g round, a s hopping centre or even home).
20 New Safe Zone Log in to the custome r portal and sel ect the n u•m8 , or all o f your Nu•m8‟s that you wan t to set the Safe Zone for, it (they) will then be displayed in th e top right corner as the selected nu•m 8(s).
21 This will then take you to the followi ng screen. Now i nput a town or post code in the “Find” box to get the map to the general area of w here you want to set the sa fe zone. Zoo m in or out , pan right, le f t, up or dow n to get the ex act loca tion.

23 You can set the Sa fe Z one immedia tely (“Set No w”) - in which case the settings wi ll be sent to nu•m8 (as shown bel ow) or sav e the Safe Zone t o the list to be selected and appl ied later.
24 Now sel ect the update rate and give the Sa fe Zone a name Click “S et now ” o r “Save to list ” as i n multi-point e arlier. The reason y ou may wish to select multipoi nt rather than radi.
25 Select a previously saved Safe Z one Click on Safe Zone i n the ri ght hand panel and sel ect the “Safe Zone” tha t you wi sh to set Then confirm your choice.
26 When nu•m8 has re ceived the Sa fe Zone request an d applied it the Safe Zone icon s tatus will be ind icated on the portal. To edit a Safe Z one Go to “Safe Zone ” in the righ t hand panel and select the “Sa fe Zone” you wish to ed it and click “E dit ”.
27 Make the chan ges that you re quire to the area , the type o f shape or update rate and then click “S ave ” and the modificati ons will be sav ed to file enabli ng the modified Sa fe Zone to be applied now or saved to the list for later.
28 The portal status will be updated to “ Standby ” w hen nu•m8 has receiv ed the instruction and confirmed to the portal that it has been applied .
29 Rem oving nu•m 8 w ithout triggering an alert Your nu•m8 strap is impregna ted with a wou nd steel core which is very difficult to cut. If the release button in the w atch housing is depre ssed.
30 . When the LCD s creen goes bl ank it is safe to remove nu•m8 from your chil d. The status on th e portal wil l be updated to “O ff ” . To remove nu•m8 depress the release button in t he housing with the styl us provided and the bracelet will release.
31 W he n your child is safely in you r care put nu•m8 to “ O ff ” by following the s witch off instructions above..
32 Live T rack Live track can only be used from the customer portal and should be used caref ully as it is very battery intensiv e. To change the sta tus of nu•m8 to liv e track log in to the custo mer portal an d select the nu•m8 (s ) that you w ant to set to live trac k.
33 Once nu•m8 has con firmed the li ve track settings the screen chan ges to the image abov e whilst you w ait for the first location to be displayed on th e map. If we are unable to get GPS the cell ID cross hairs w ill appear with an approximate location and will be updated w ith subsequent cell ID locations until w e get a GPS fix.
34 Alert s Wh en you first registe r ed nu•m8 w e ask ed for contact details; mobile phon e and email contact details whi ch were then sav ed as primary contac t. To make any alterations to this:- Change the recip ient of alerts Log in to the cus tomer portal and sel ect the nu•m8 ( or all of your nu•m8‟s ) that you want to set Alerts for.
35 If you w ish to set up a new contact or edit the de tails o f a contact click on <New > or edit against the existing con tacts details. The foll owing screen w ill t hen appear <NEW> recipient of alerts Input a short na me, email address , and mobile ph one number (wi th the country code).

37 Home Zone The purpose o f Home Zone is to c reate an area in which it is safe t o remove nu•m8 from y our child‟s w rist without first sending the “Switch Off” command to switch nu•m8 off. This is particularly useful when y ou get home and it is inconv enient to swi tch the unit off be fore removing.
38 My det ails Click on “M y Details ” on the navigation ba r of the portal to chan ge the defaul t settings of your portal page. You can select the de f ault map betw een M ap, Satel lite or Hybrid. You can change the icon, name and colou r of your n u• m8 .
39 Calendar Calendar function ality is not curren t ly enabled . Please review www .lok8u.com to see w hen this will be avail able.
40 W aterproof Nu•m8 is waterp roof to IPX7. IPX 7 is a standard for classi fying the degrees o f protection provi ded by the enclosu res of elect rical equipment.
41 Certification By affixing the CE marking , the manufactu rer, its authoriz ed r epresenta tive, or person placi ng the product on the ma rket or putting i t into servi ce asserts that the item meet.
42 SARS The tests measu re the Speci fic Absorption Rate (SAR) o f mobile telephones. The SAR val ue shows how much heat ener gy is absorbed in the head area from the mobil e phone. The test is designed to ensure that the max imum val ue of two w atts per kilo as se t in the Decree o f the Ministry of Social Affairs and Heal th is not excee ded.

45 APPENDIX ONE (i) Useful information GPS Nu•m8 will check that it can get a fix on the satellites to ensure that it can get the most accurate location when required. However, although Nu•m8 uses the latest technology, including assisted GPS, there will be times, particularly indoors, on a cold start, that this may take some time.
