INSTALLATION NOTE This mainboard complies with the ATX standard, which means the ACPI connector on this board i s 2-pin. If the Power LE D cable of your case uses a 3-pin adapter, yo u must use the 2-pin to 3-pin adapter (c ontained in the packaging).
Locate the Power LED cable attached to the case. If the Power LED cable has a 3-pin adapter, you must use th e 2-pin to 3-pin adapter which com es with the packaging. The heads of the power cables usually have a triangular mark which indicates the positive electrode(+).

K8SLI 7 F AN Hea ders Three power header s are availa ble for cooling fans, which p lay an im portant role in maintaining the ambient tem perature in your sy stem. Memory Inst allation The K8SLI mainboard contain 4 sockets, which use 184- pin DDR S DRAM with a total m e mory capacity of up to 4 GB.
K8SLI 8 T o Ena ble Dual-Channel DDR, the f ollowing conditions must be met: 1.You must use eith er DIMM1 & DIMM2 together or DIMM3 & DIMM4 togeth er or all four DIMM slots together. If you want to use only one DIMM, you m ust use DIMM1 or DIMM3.

K8SLI 11 SPDIF out connectors S/PDIF ( Sony/Philips D igital Inter face) is an aud io transfer fi le format w hich provides high qua lity audio using optical fiber a nd digital signals. This mainboard is capable of a delivering audio output through this SPDIF connector.
K8SLI 12 Audio Port Connectors: Sound The K8SLI com es equipped with three Au dio Ports. The three ports, Mic-in, Line-in and Front Speaker-out are standard aud io ports that provide basic audio functio nality. After y ou install the 5.1 Channel drivers for K8S LI and setup 5.
K8SLI 13 Front Panel Indicator: SW/LED 、 SPEAKER HD LED (Hard Drive LED Connector) This connector can be attached to an LED on the front pane l of a computer case. The LED will flicker during disk ac tivity. This disk activity onl y applies to those IDE drive s directly attach ed to the system board.
K8SLI 14 Connectors Floppy Disk Connector: FDC The mainboard provides a standard floppy disk connector (FDC) that supports 360K, 720K, 1 .2M, 1.44M and 2.88M floppy disk ettes. This connector supports th e floppy drive ribbon cables provided in th e packagi ng.
K8SLI 15 Headers & Jumpers Front USB Headers (Y ellow): USB1/ USB2 This mainboard provides 2 USB headers on the board allowing for 4 additional USB por ts. To make use of these headers, you must atta ch a USB bracket/cable with USB ports (some models will come packaged with a USB 4-port bracket-cable).
K8SLI 16 Infrared Header : IrDA (Optional) This IrDA connector can be co nfigured to support wireless inf rared and is used to attach to an infrared sensing devi ce. After the IrDA inter face is configured, y ou can use thi s connector for connectionless data transfer to and from portable devices such as laptops and PDAs.
K8SLI 17 ABS (Albatron BIOS security ) Header: BIOSCN1 This mainboard includ es one ABS header (BIOSCN1) for the A B S card which can prov ide a second BIOS for the mainboard in case the orig inal BIOS is damaged. To set up the jumper on th e ABS card, please refer to f igure1.
K8SLI 18 Clear CMOS Jumper: JP1 The “Clear CMOS” jumper is used when you cannot boot y our system due to some CMOS configuration such as a pas sword that is forgotten.
K8SLI 19 Audio Connectors CD-ROM Audio-In Header: CD-IN This header is used to connect to a CD-ROM / DVD audio cable. Front Panel Audio Header : FRONT AUDIO You can use the Front Panel Audio header (FRONT AUDIO) to connect to a separate audi o bracket or to connect to case em bedded audio equipm en t.
K8SLI 20 SPDIF & FRONT AUDIO bracket (optional) You can connect th e bracket to the SPDIF and FRONT AUDIO Headers (This photo can be varie d with diff erent models). Slot s The slots in this mainboard are designed fo r expansion cards used to complement and enhance the functionality of the m ainboard.
K8SLI 21 Power Supply Att achment s A TX Power C onnec tor: A T X_PWR 、 A TX_12V This mainboard requires two ATX power connec tions. The first is a 24 -pin connector and the second is a 4-pin connector. At tac h the 4-pin conn ector fi rst and then attach the 24-pin c onnector.
K8SLI 22 Chapter 2. BIOS Setup Introduction This section describes PHOENIX- AWARD™ BIOS Setup program which resides in the ROM BIOS firmware. The Setup program allows users to modify the basic system configuration. The configuration inf ormation is then saved to CMOS RAM where the data is sustained by Li-battery after power-down.

K8SLI 30 PCI / VGA Palette Snoop Some graphic controllers that are not VGA compatible take the output from a VGA controller and map it to their display as a way to provide boot information and VGA com patibility. K8SLI 33 Primary / Secondary /M aster / Slave UDMA Ultra DMA 100 functio nality can be implemented if it is supported by the IDE hard drives in your system. As well, your operating environment requ ires a DMA driver (Windows 95 OSR2 or a third party IDE bus m a ster driver).
K8SLI 34 Onboard Device If you highlight the “Onboard Device” lab el and then press the enter key, it will take you t o a submenu with the following options: OnChip USB This option should be enabled if your sy stem has a US B port installed on the syste m board.
K8SLI 35 Onboard FDC Controller Select “Enabled” if y our system has a floppy disk controller (FDC) installed on the system board and you wish to use it.
K8SLI 36 Power Management The Power Managem ent Setup Menu allows you to configure your syst em to utilize energy conservation features as w ell as power-up/ power-down options. ACPI Suspend T ype The item allows you to select the suspend type using the ACPI operating system.

K8SLI 43 Chapter 4: Troubleshooting Problem 1: No power to the sy stem. Power light does not illu minate. Fan inside power supply does not turn on. Indicator lights on keyboard are not lit. Causes: 1. Power cable is unplugged. 2. Defective power cable.
K8SLI 44 Problem 4: System only boots from the CD-ROM. The hard disk can be read and applications can be used but booting from the hard disk i s impossible . Causes: Hard Disk boot se ctor has b een corrupted . Solutions: Back u p data and application s files.
K8SLI 45 Problem 10: Keyboard failure . Causes: Keyboard is disconnecte d. Solutions: Reconnect keyboard. Replace keyboard if y ou continue to experience problems. Problem 1 1 : No color on scre en. Causes: 1. Faulty Monitor. 2. CMOS incorrectly set up.

K8SLI 51 Deleting an Array 1. You can delete an existing array on the “Array Deta il” screen. Pres s the <D> key. A warning/confirmation message will d isplay (as shown below). Pre ss <Y> to confirm . 2. After the array is succes sfully deleted , the screen will display as shown below.
K8SLI 52 Rebuilding a RAI D Mirrored Array This section applies to Mirror ed or Striped/Mirro red RAID configurations and describes how to reestablish the in tegrity of a m irrored environment af ter replacing one of t he drives (typic ally because of a single disk failure).
