1 S AFETY I NSTRUCTIONS ! WARNING As with all types of electric al equipment, dangerous voltag es exist within the equipment where the Liebert Distribution Monitor (LDM) is installed.
Glossary of Abbr eviations 2 1.0 G LOSSARY OF A BBREVIATIONS The following abbreviations are used in this man ual. BCB Branch Circuit Mon itoring Control Board BCMS Branch Circuit Monitoring System BM.
Product Overview 3 2.0 P RODUCT O VERVIEW The Liebert Distribution Monitor (LDM) monitors th e main panelboard circuit breaker and indiv idual panelboard branch circuit breakers. The measuremen ts are used to report the current and alarm con- ditions for each breaker.
Major Compo nents 4 3.0 M AJOR C OMPONENT S 3.1 Branch Circuit Monito ring Control Board (BCB) The BCB is the main processing and storage circuit board of the Lieb ert LDM. It is a DSP-based logic controller with internal flash memory and non-vo latile memory.
Major Compo nents 5 3.2 Panel Board V oltage-Current Board (PBVI) The PBVI board monitors two panelboards and prov ides the voltage attenuators for the two panel- board voltag es. The two sets of panelboard main breaker CTs are connected to the PBVI board.
Major Compo nents 6 3.3 Large Interface Board (LIB) The LIB provides the vo ltage attenuato rs for Square D I- Line panelboard voltages. The LIB monitors the current for the I-Line panelboard. The panelboard input CTs are connected to the LIB board. There are 42 CT inputs provided.
Installation 7 4.0 I NST ALLATION This section prov ides instructions for in stalling and connecting Liebert LDM current transformers. If service needs to be performed on any Liebert LDM compo nent, contact Emerson Network Power Lie - bert Services at 1-800-LIEBERT (1-800-543-237 8) for assistance.
Installation 8 4.2 Inst alling a Solid-Core Current T ransformer The CT for the p anelboard main input circuit breake r is hard-wired to the connectors. Removing CT wires from the connector requires a pin extraction tool. Contact Liebert Services at 1-800-LIEBERT (1-800-543-23 78) for assistance.
Installation 9 4.3 Connecting a Current T ransf ormer to the PBV I Board If subfeed breakers are or dered with the unit, the phase CTs are i nstalled and wired to the PBVI. The neutral and ground CTs are also factory- supplied and wired to the PBVI board.

Installation 12 4.5 Connecting a Current T ran sformer to the LIB Board LIB can monitor eight 5- wire output/subfeed br eakers . Two LIB boards are provided to support up to 16 output and/or subfeed breakers. If subfeed breakers are orde red with the unit, the phase CTs are installed and wired to the LIB.

Operation 15 5.0 O PERATION The Liebert LDM is a factory-installed option to pr ovide monitoring of the ma in breaker, branch cir- cuit breakers and subfeed breaker s. It may be installed in the Liebert PPC Precision Power Center, Liebert FDC, Liebert FPC and Lieber t RDC Remote Dist ribution Cabinet.
Operation 16 5.1 Alarms The Liebert LDM constantly moni tors configured parame ters for normal values. When the unit detects an alarm c ondition, it annunciates and disp lays alarm messages via the Monitor progra m (see 5.4 - Using the Monitor Tool ).
Operation 17 5.2 Communication 5.2.1 LDM Setup Port Connection Use the LDM Setup port to download and use the so ftware from Liebert’s Web site for monitoring, configuration and firmware upgrades (see 5.3 - Downloading the Software ). This port is not a ter- minal interface.
Operation 18 5.3 Downloading the Sof tware The Liebert LDM has three software tools for mo nitoring, configuration and firmware updates: • Monitoring - see 5.4 - Using the Monitor Tool • Configuration - see 5.5 - Using the Configuration To ol • Firmware updates - see 5.
Operation 19 5.4.2 Monitor Menu Options The Monitor window has a menu bar at the top with a drop-down list of options for each menu. Table 7 summarizes the options available in these menus. 5.4.3 Panel St atus and Real-Time Clock The Panel Status area displays: • The name of the Liebert LDM in the Unit box.
Operation 20 5.4.4 Main Breaker St atus The Main Breaker Status area displays RMS current , percent load (PCT), total harmonic distortion (THD), crest factor (CF ), line-to-line voltage (VLL -RMS), line-to- neutral voltage (VLN-RMS) , instan- taneous power (Power), VA and power factor (PF) for each input phase.
Operation 21 5.5 Using the Configuration T ool The Configuration tool allows users to set up br eakers and view or change their parameters and alarm setpoints.
Operation 22 5.5.2 Main Configuration Window Overview The Configuration window shows break ers graphically in the left pane and associated bre aker data at right.
Operation 23 5.5.3 Load a Configuration File from Disk A previously saved conf iguration file—creat ed by Emerson Network Power technical person- nel or saved from a Liebert LDM unit—may be transferred from a PC to the Liebert LDM.
Operation 24 5.5.6 Select Panel to View Up to two panelboards may be co nnected to the Liebert LDM (see 4.1.1 - Connecting Panelboards A and B ). Each may be viewed in th e Configuration main window. To switch the view to a different panel: • In the Select Panel box, click on Panel A for Panelboard A o r Panel B for Panelboard B.
Operation 25 5.5.8 Edit the Liebert LDM Unit Properties The Unit properties box displays the nam e, DIP switch address an d software address of the Liebert LDM unit: • LDM Unit Name - a n am e as s ig ne d to the Liebert LDM unit. To make a ch ange, click in the LDM Unit Name box, click Edit and enter a name, then click Apply .
Operation 26 5.5.10 Edit the Breaker Properties The Breaker Properties box displays the breaker name, rating, other parameters an d alarm setpoints. To view or change parameters and alarm setpoi nts of a breaker: • Click on the breaker in the left pane.
Operation 27 5.5.1 1 Add or Delete a Circuit Breaker After moving or removing circuit breakers in the panelboa rd, use the Configurati on tool to add or delete in the configuration. Run the configuration program using the steps outlined in 5.5.1 - Starting the Configuration Pro- gram .
Operation 28 5.5.13 Adding a Subfeed Breaker To add a 3-pole subfeed breaker circuit: • Run the Configuration program (see 5.5.1 - Starting the Configuration Program ). • If needed , select the panel and breaker view with the ne w breaker: • In the Select Panel box, click on Panel A or Panel B .
Operation 29 5.5.14 Delete a Breaker Removing a br eaker from the conf iguration is requir ed after moving or removi ng circuit breakers in the panelboard. This step must be performe d before adding a breaker in the same positi on. To delete a breaker: • Run the Configuration program (see 5.
Operation 30 5.6 Upgrading the Firmware The Flash program is used to upgrade the firmware on a L iebert LDM unit. It uses the service termi- nal port to erase the old firmware, copy the new firmware an d reboot the unit. To upgrade the firmware: 1. Make sure the Liebert LDM unit is powered O N.
Operation 31 7. If the Liebert LDM unit is dete cted, a confirmation window appears. Click Yes to continue an d proceed to Step 8 . If the Liebert LDM unit is NOT detect ed, an error message appears. Click OK to return t o the Upgrade Firmwa re window.
Operation 32 9. The Upgrade Firmware window appears. Click the Download button to continue. 10. Wait for the firmware upgrade to complete. • The program erases the old image, than writes the new image, as shown below. 11. When the new image i s loaded, the Flash prog ram restarts the unit.
