Chapter 3 Basics 20 Zooming in or out Depending on the app, you may be able to zoom in to enlarge , or zoom out to r educe the image on the screen. When viewing photos , webpages , mail, or maps, for example, pinch two ngers together to zoom out or s pread them apar t to zoom in.
Chapter 3 Basics 21 The orientation lock icon appears in the status bar when the scr een orientation is locked. Y ou can also set the Side Switch to lock the screen orientation instead of silencing sound e ects and notications. Go to Settings > General, and under “Use Side Switch to ,” tap Lock Rotation.

Chapter 3 Basics 28 Notications T o help mak e sure you don ’t miss important events , many iP ad apps can provide alerts. An alert can appear briey as a banner at the top of the screen, which goes a way if you don ’t r espond to it, or as a notice in the cen ter of the screen that remains until y ou acknowledge it.

4 35 Siri What is Siri? Siri is the intelligent personal assistan t that helps you get things done just by talking. Siri understands natural speech, so you don’ t have to learn specic c ommands or remember keywords. Y ou can ask things in di erent ways.
Chapter 4 Siri 36 Using Siri Starting Siri Siri comes to life with the pr ess of a button. Start Siri: Pr ess the Home button un til Siri appears. If you didn ’t turn Siri on when you set up iP ad, go to Settings > G eneral > Siri. Y ou’ll hear two quick beeps and see “ What can I help you with?” on the screen.

When you take a photo , iP ad makes a shutter sound. Y ou can use the volume buttons on the side of the iP ad to control the v olume of the shutter sound.
