Understandin g the home screen Understanding the hom e screen When th e printer is turned on, the disp lay shows a bas ic screen, referred to as the home s creen. Activating the home screen application s Your printer comes with preinstalled home s creen applicat i ons. Before you can use these applications, first activate and set up these applicat ions us ing the Em bedded We b Server .

Updat ing availab le options in th e printer driver When any har dware o ptions a re instal led, you may nee d to manu ally add the optio ns in the p rinter driver to make them availabl e for use.
Setting up wireless printing Note: A Ser vice Set Ide ntifier (SSID) i s a name as signed to a w ireless ne twork. Wired E quivalent P rivacy (WEP), Wi -Fi Protec ted A ccess (W PA), WPA2, and 802. 1X - RA DIUS are types o f secu rity us ed on a ne twork.
Installi ng the printer on a wireless ne twork (W indows) Before installin g the printer on a wire less network, make sure: • Your wi rel ess netw ork is s et up and is worki ng prop erly. • The computer you are using is connected to the same wireless netwo rk where you want to set up the printer.

Changing port settings after in stalling a new network Internal Solutions Port When a new Lexmar k Internal Soluti ons Port (ISP) is insta lled in the printer , the p rinter configur ations on compute rs that ac cess the printe r must b e updat ed since the pr inter wi ll be assi gned a new IP address.

Print in black and white To print all text a nd graphics using o nly the blac k toner ca rtridge, set the prin ter to Bl ack Only. F or more info rmation, see “Pri nting in bl ack and wh ite” on pag e 88 .
Choose To Off Note: Sel ecting Phot o from the driver may disable Quiet Mode and provide better print quali ty and full speed printing. Use factory default settings. This setting support s the performance specification s of your printer. On Redu ce p rint er nois e.
Using Hibernate Mode Hibernate is a n ultra ‑ low pow er operating mode. When operatin g in Hibernat e mode, the print er is essentia lly off, and all othe r systems and devic es are po wered down safely. Note: The Hiber nate and S leep mode s can be sc heduled.

Loading paper and specialty media Setting the pap er size and type The Pape r Size sett ing is au tomatica lly sensed ac cordin g to the posi tion of the paper gu ides in each tray exce pt the multipurpose feeder. The Paper S ize setting for the multipurpose feeder mus t be set manually from the Paper Size menu.

2 Squeeze and then slide the width guide to t he correct position for the paper size loaded. 3 Squeeze and then slide th e length guide to the co rrect position for th e paper size loaded. Note: The length guide ha s a lockin g device . To unlock, s lide the button on top of the l ength gui de down.
Notes: • Place print side facedo wn for duple x printi ng. • Place pre-punched paper with the holes to ward the front of the tray. • Place letterheads with the header on the left side of t he tray. • Mak e sure th e paper is below th e maxim um fill line loca ted on the e dge of th e paper tray.

Loading the 2000 ‑ shee t high ‑ capacity feeder The high ‑ capacity feeder can hold up to 2,000 sheets of letter ‑ , A4 ‑ , and leg al ‑ size paper (80 g/m 2 or 20 lb).
3 Flex the sheets back and forth to loos en them. Do not fold or crease the paper . Straighten the edges on a level surface. 4 Load pa per into th e tray with the prin t side face up. Note: M ake sure the paper i s below the maximum fill line lo cated on the edge of the paper t ray.
Notes: • Place pre-punched paper with the holes to ward the front of the tray. • Place letterheads faceup with the header on th e left side of the tray. • Plac e letterhe ads face down with t he heade r on the right s ide of th e tray for duplex printing.
2 For paper or specialty med ia that is longer than letter-size paper, gen tly pull the e xtension un til it is fully exte nded. 3 Flex the sheets of pa per or specialty media back and forth to lo osen the m. Do no t fold or crease them. St raig hten the edges on a level surface.
4 Push the paper pick tab, and then load the paper or spec ialty medi a. Slide the stack gently i nto the multipu rpose feeder until it comes to a stop, and then release the paper pick tab. Warning—Pote ntial Damage : Pul ling the paper ou t, wi thout p ushing t he pape r pick t ab first , may cau se jam s or the pap er pic k tab to b reak.
5 Adjust the width guide to lightly touch the edge of the stac k. Make sure the paper or sp ecialt y media fit s loosely in the multipur pose feeder, lies flat, and is not ben t or wrinkled.
Creat ing a cus tom name for a pape r type If the print er is on a networ k, you can use the Embedded W eb Server to define a nam e other than Cus tom Type [x] for each of the cus tom paper typ es loaded into the pr inter. 1 Type th e printer IP addres s into the address field o f your Web b rowser.
Paper and specialty media guide Notes: • Make su re the p aper siz e, type , and weig ht are set correc tly on the compu ter or on the pri nter con trol pa nel. • Flex, fan, and straighten s pecialty me dia before loadi ng it. • The printer may print at a reduced speed to prevent damage to t he fuser.
Store p aper in it s original wrapper i n the same environm ent as th e printe r for 24 to 48 hou rs before printi ng. Extend the ti me to s evera l days i f the s torag e or t ranspor tati on envi ronm ent is very d iffer ent fro m the p rinter envi ronmen t.
Selecting preprinted forms and letterhead Use these guidelines when selecting prepr inted forms and letterhead: • Use grai n long for 60 to 90 g/m 2 (16 to 24 lb ) weight paper. • Use onl y forms a nd lett erhead pr inted usin g an offse t lithogr aphic o r engraved printing p rocess.
Lexmark does not endor se specific suppliers, although a converter’s produ ct list fo r special ap plication s is main tained. However, the follo wing paper choi ce guidelines will help alleviat e the environmental impact of pr inting: 1 Minimi ze paper c onsumpt ion.
