Installing a flash memory or firmw are card The syste m boa rd ha s two connect io ns for an opt iona l fla sh mem ory or fi rmw are c ard . Only o ne of ea ch may be inst al led, but the connec tors are i nte rchange able. Note: This ta sk requ ire s a flathe ad scre wd rive r.
3 Holdin g the car d by its s ides, align t he plastic pins on t he card with the ho les on the s ystem bo ard. 1 Pla stic pi ns 2 Metal pi ns 4 Push the card fi rml y into pl ace. Note s: • The entir e length of the co nnector on the car d must touch and be f lush against t he sys tem boar d.
6 Push in on the screws whi le rotating them clockwise a quarter turn to lock the sy stem board into p lace. Warning—P otential Dama ge: Make sure the syst em boa rd is loc ked to pr event possi ble dam ag e to the print er if it is mov ed.
3 Locate the appropr iate connector on the system bo ard. No te : If an opt ional pr inter ha rd dis k is curr ent ly insta lled, then t he print er ha rd di sk must firs t be remo ved. To remov e the ha rd di sk: a Unplug the printer hard disk interface cable from the system bo ard, leavi ng the cable attached to th e printer hard disk.
b Rem ove the sc rew s holding the pri nter har d disk in place. c Rem ove the pri nter har d disk by pulli ng it upwa rd to un seat t he stando ffs. Addit ional prin ter setup 37.
d Rem ove the thum bscrews that attac h the printe r hard disk mo unting bracket to the pri nter hard di sk, and then remov e the br acke t. Set th e prin ter hard disk a side.
5 Align t he pos ts of the plastic tee to the holes in the syst em bo ard, and t hen pr ess d ownward unt il the te e snaps into place. Be sure each post of the tee has latched completely, and th a t th e tee is seated firmly onto the system board. 6 Install th e ISP onto the plast ic tee .
8 Insert the long thumbscrew, into the hole closest to the white connector, and turn i t clockwise enough to hold the ISP in pla ce. Do not tig hten the t humbscr ew at this ti me. 9 Attach the two pr ovided screw s to secure th e ISP moun ting brac ket to the system board ca ge.
12 If a pri nte r hard dis k was pre vio usly inst alled, then at tach t he pr inter ha rd dis k to the ISP . F or more inf orm ation, see “ Install ing a pri nt er hard dis k” on page 42 . 13 Release the latch, and then close the system board door by lowering the scanner.
Instal ling a print er hard disk The opt iona l printer hard disk can be installed with o r wit hout a L exmark Int ernal Sol utions Po rt (ISP ). Note: This task requ ires a #2 Phillips sc rewdriver and a flathead screwd river.
To ins tall a pri nter har d dis k onto the ISP: a Using a flat head s crewdriv er to l oosen the scr ews, remo ve the thumbsc rews t hat att ach the print er hard dis k mount ing br acket to the prin ter hard disk, a nd then r emove the bracket.
To ins tall a pri nte r hard dis k direc tly onto the syst em bo ard: a Align t he s tandoffs o f the pr inte r hard dis k with t he h oles i n the syste m board, a nd t hen pre ss downward on the p rinter hard d isk until the standoffs have se ated in to place .

3 Remove the metal cover from the fax card opening. 1 2 4 Insert the f ax card, an d then tigh ten the t wo screws to sec ure the fax c a rd m ounting brac ket.
5 Insert the plug of the fax card interface cable into th e receptacle o f the s ys tem board. 6 Release the latch, and then close the system board door by lowering the scanner. 7 Push in on the screws whi le rotating them clockwise a quarter turn to lock the sy stem board into p lace.

6 Align the p rinter with th e drawer , and then lower t he printer into p lace. Att a ch ing cab le s Connec t the print er to the computer using a U SB cable , or t o the net work usi ng an E thernet cable.
1 US B p or t 2 Ethernet port Verify ing pri nter set up Once all hardware a nd so ftware optio ns are inst alled and the print er is turned on, verify t hat the prin ter is set up correc tly by printi ng the follow ing: • Menu set tings page —Use this page to verify that all pr inter options are install ed correc tly.
Printing a network set up pa ge If th e pri nter is attach ed to a ne twork, th en print a net w or k set up page to ve rify the netw ork co nnection. T his pa ge also pro vides im portant informatio n that aids network pri nti ng configur ation. 1 Make su re t he pri nter is o n and Rea dy appea rs.
Updat ing ava ilable opt ions in the pri nter dri ver Once the pri nter sof tware and any opt ion s a re installed, it may be necessar y to manually add the optio ns in the pri nter driver to make them available for print jobs. For Wi ndow s us er s 1 Click , or click Start and then c lick Run .

Instal ling the prin ter on a wirel ess network (Macintos h) Before you install the pr inter o n a wireless network, ma ke sure that: • A wire less car d is inst alled in your p rinter. • Your wire less n etwork is set up a nd w orkin g proper ly.

Se tt ing up s eria l p rin t in g In se rial printing , da ta is transf erred on e bit at a time. A lthoug h serial pr inting is usuall y slow er than paral lel pri nting, it is the pr eferred option when there is a great deal of distance between the print er and computer or when an interface with a better t ransfer rate is no t availab le.
The serial param eters in the COM port must matc h the ser ial parameters you se t in the printer . a Open the Device Manager. 1 Cli ck , o r click St a rt and then click Run . 2 In the Star t Searc h or R un box, t ype devm gm t. ms c . 3 Press Enter , or click OK .

Adjusting Po wer Saver To save energy, you can decreas e the number of minutes before the printer enters Power Saver m ode. Available se ttings range f rom 1–24 0 mi nute s. The fac tory defaul t settin g is 30 minutes. Using the Embedded Web Server 1 Type the pri nter IP addre ss into the addr ess f ield of your Web br ows er.

2 Squeeze and slide the guides to the cor rect position for the paper size you are loading. For l ong paper li ke A4 or legal, sq ueeze a nd s lide t he l ength g uide ba ckward s to accom moda te the lengt h of paper you are lo ading.
If you ar e load ing A6 ‑ size pape r: a Squeeze and slide the length guide to ward the center of th e tray to the A5 size position. b Raise the A6 backstop.

Loading the mult ipurpose feeder 1 Squeeze the tab loc a ted on the r ight width guide, and move th e guides out fully. 2 Prepare the paper or specialty media for loading. • Fle x sheets o f pa per or pape r labels back and forth t o l oosen them, and then fan them .
• Flex a stack of envelopes back and forth to loosen them, and then fan them. Straighten the edges on a level sur fa ce . Note: Fanning prevents th e edges of envelopes from sticking together. It also helps them feed p roperly to avoi d jams. Do not fo ld or cr ease envelo pes.
• Load letterhea d with the l ogo faceup and the top edge en tering th e printer fir st. • Load envelopes with t he flap sid e dow n and the s tamp loc ation in the posi tion sho wn. The stamp and addres s are sho wn to illustrat e the prop er orientat ion for loadin g envelopes.
5 Slide t he paper ge ntly i nto the multipu rpos e feeder until it c omes t o a st op. P aper s hould lie flat in the multip urpose feeder. Make sure the paper fits loosely in the multipurpose feeder and is no t b en t or wrinkled. 6 From t he p rinter contr ol pane l, set the Paper Size a nd Pape r Type .
To unli nk a tray, ch ange the foll owing tra y settings so that they do no t match th e settings of any oth er tray: • Paper Type (fo r example: Plain Paper , Letterhead, Cus tom Type <x>) Paper Type na mes descri be the paper charac teristic s.

For 60–176 g/m 2 (16–47 lb bond ) pap er, grai n long pa per is reco mmend ed. Fo r pape r heavier than 1 76 g/ m 2 , grain short is re commended . Fib er cont en t Most h igh ‑ quality x erograp hic paper is ma de fr om 100% chemic ally treate d pulpe d wood .
