3 Ins t all the P erfectF inish ca rtrid ge Step 2: Install the P erf ectFinish car t ridg e Yo u r p r i n t e r ’ s unique PerfectFinish cartridge sets a new standar d for high-quality printing on a wide range of plain paper . 1 Remove the manual fe eder .
4 Install t he Per fectFi nish ca rtridge 3 Remove the tape c overing the valve. 4 Hold the Perfe ctF inis h ca rtrid ge so th e valv e is on th e lef t side .
5 Ins t all the P erfectF inish ca rtrid ge 5 Align th e cart ridge wit h the la tches inside th e printer . 6 Lower the cartridge until it is under t he latches as shown.

7 Inst all printer options Step 3: Install printer options Installing a 250-sheet dra wer The 250-sheet drawer doubles your pri nter paper capa cit y . 1 Remove the drawer f r om its p ackaging. 2 Place the drawer in the locat ion you have chos en for y our p rinte r .
8 Install p rinte r option s Be sure to remove the 250-she et draw e r before moving your pri nter to ano ther locati on. Installing a m ultip urpose feeder The multipurpose feeder comes in two pieces: the base and the paper support. 1 Remove the manual fe eder , if install ed.
9 Inst all printer options 2 Remo ve th e mul tipur pose f eed er fr om it s packaging. 3 Align the ba se between the open s lots inside the printer a nd lower it into pl ace.
10 Install p rinte r option s Installing an e xternal print s erver 1 Make sure the pr inter and computer are t urned off . 2 Remo ve th e Mar kNe t XP p rint s erve r , two hangers and cable from the pac kaging.
11 Inst all printer options 5 Plug one end of the parallel c able into th e connector a s shown. 6 Plug the ot her end of the paral lel cable a nd the power jac k into t he MarkNet XP ext ernal print ser ver .
12 Load pa per Step 4: Load paper Both tray 1 and tray 2 are loade d the same way . 1 Grip th e tray tab and pull the tray complete ly out of the pr inter .
13 Load pa per 3 Before loading media, fl ex the sheets back and forth to l oosen them, and then fa n them. Straight en the edges on a leve l surfa ce. 4 Place the paper in the tray , print si de down. Do not exceed the st ack height indica tor on the right side of the tray .
14 Load pa per The paper should lie flat in the tray ( 1 ). If the length guide is pu shed too tig htly against the paper , the paper bends ( 2 ) agai n st the paper sup por ts, caus ing a ja m as it is pull ed int o th e printer . 6 Squeeze the widt h guide and slide it t o the right unti l it is lig htly touc hin g the ed ge of the p aper sta ck.
15 Load pa per T o load m edia in the multipurpose feeder: 1 Load the media agains t the right paper gui de with the p rin t side fa cing y ou. 2 Squeeze th e left pape r guide lever and sl ide it lightly against the edge of the media. T o r emove media fr om the multipurpose feeder: 1 Push the paper releas e lever toward the m edia and hold it.
16 Attach c ables Step 5: Attac h cab les Y ou can connect your printer to your computer with either a: • Parallel cab le • USB cable Y ou can connect your printer to the network with an Ethernet cable (UTP cab l e with RJ.
17 Attach c ables Attaching a USB cable If you ar e connecting your printer to a computer with a Universal Ser ial Bus (U SB) cable , w e r ecommend Lexmark part number 12A24 05 (2 m). 1 Make sure the pr inter and computer (and a ny attached pe ripherals) ar e turned of f.

19 Inst all th e printhe ads Step 6: 6: Install the printheads Y ou r printer has two printheads: • One printhead has thr ee color ink cartridges ( C=Cyan, M=Ma g enta, Y=Y ellow ) alr eady installed. • The other printhead has a black i n k cartridg e ( K=Black ) insta lled.
20 Install t he printh eads 2 Ope n the pri nter fro nt co ver . After a few seconds, the carrier moves to the load position at the center of the printer .
21 Inst all th e printhe ads 4 Remove the print heads from their pa ckaging. Do not r emove the ink cartridges fr om the printheads. 5 Remove the plast i c cus hioning from the black ink printhe ad.
22 Install t he printh eads 6 Pull o ut the tape bet ween the ink cartr i dge and the print head. 7 Gently pull off the pl astic cap from the bottom of the pri nthead.
23 Inst all th e printhe ads 8 Hold the blac k printhead as shown. A void touchi ng the r elease t ab on the ink cartridge or it will pop out of the printhead.
24 Install t he printh eads 11 Repeat st eps 5 through 10 to instal l the color ink prin thea d in th e lef t slot . 12 Pull the c arrier handle al l the way down to lock the print heads in place. If the handle does not cl ose easily , make sur e the printhead i s installe d under the slot (see step 9).
25 Attach th e operato r panel o verlay Step 7: Attac h the operator panel o verla y If English is not your pr eferred language , attach the overlay for your la n guage to the printer operator pan el. 1 Peel the pr otective backin g off the ove rlay .
26 Change the lan gua ge Step 8: Chang e the langua g e If English is not your pr eferred language , change the language of the text displayed on the operator panel before printing a menu settings page. 1 Make sure yo ur printer i s turned on and a ll attached pe ripherals are p lugged in.
27 Verify s etup Step 9: V erify setup T o list the current printer settings and verif y that options ar e installed corr ectly , print a menu settings page. 1 Make sure yo ur printer i s turned on. 2 Press Me nu> u ntil Utilities Menu appears on the operator pa nel display .

29 Load printer drivers and Ma rkVisio n 3 Click Ne xt agai n to search fo r a driver . 4 Inse rt th e Drivers, MarkVisi on and Utilities CD and che ck Specify a Locatio n to tell th e computer where to find the USB port driver o n the CD. Uncheck any other boxe s.
