Using the security lock feature The printer is equipped with a security lock feature. Wh en a lock compa tible with most laptop com puters is attac hed, the printer is locked. Once locked, the metal plate and the system board cannot be removed. Attach a security lock to the printe r in the location shown .

Installing a flash memory or firmware card The syst em board has two connec tions f or an o ptional flash m emor y or fir mware c ard. Onl y one o f each m ay be insta lled, but the connectors are interchangeable.
• Be ca reful no t to dam age the c onnectors . 5 Reattach the system board cover. Installing an Inte rnal Solutions Port The sys tem boar d sup ports one optio nal Lexm ark I nterna l Solu tions P ort (ISP ). Note: This task re quires a flat head screwd river.
5 Remove the metal cover from the ISP o pening. 2 1 6 Align the posts of the p lastic tee to the holes on the system b oard, and press down until th e tee cli cks int o pla ce. Be sure each post of th e tee has latched comple tely, and the tee is seated fir mly on the syste m board.
7 Install the ISP on the plast ic tee. Angle the ISP over the pl ast ic tee, and then slant it toward the plastic tee so that any overhanging con nectors will pass throug h the ISP opening in the syst em board cage. 8 Lower the ISP toward the p lastic tee until the ISP is seate d between the gu ides of the plastic tee.
9 Insert the long th umbscrew and turn it clockwise, enough to hold the ISP in place, but do not yet tighte n the thumb screw. 10 Atta ch th e two prov ided screws to s ecure t he ISP mount ing brac ket to the sy stem board c age. 11 Tigh ten the lo ng thumbscr ew.

3 Locate the ap propri ate connec tor on th e sys tem boar d. Note: If an op tiona l ISP is curr entl y inst alled, then t h e print er hard disk m ust b e ins talled onto the IS P. To inst all a prin ter hard di sk onto t he ISP: a Usin g a f lat head screw dri ve r, lo ose n the scr ews.
c Align the standof fs of the pr inter hard disk to the hol es in the ISP, and t hen press down on th e print er har d disk until the standoffs are in place. d Insert the plug of the printer hard disk interface cable into the receptacle of the ISP. Note: The plug s and rece ptacles are co lor ‑ cod ed.

Avoid paper jams Correct ly set t he paper type an d size to avo id paper ja ms. F or more informat ion, se e “Avoi ding jams” on page 16 1. Print in black and white To print all tex t and graphi cs us ing only t he blac k print c artridg e, set t he pri nter to Black On ly.

Loading paper and specialty media This sect ion explains how to lo ad the 550-sheet t ray, an opti onal 2,000-sh eet tray , a multipurpo se feeder, and an option al 550-s heet special ty media drawer. It also inclu des informati on about paper ori entati on, setting the Paper Size and Paper Type, and linking and unlin king t rays.
Loading the standard or optional 550 ‑ sheet tray The prin ter ha s one st andard 5 50 ‑ sheet tray ( Tray 1), and may h ave on e or more o ptiona l 550 ‑ shee t trays.
2 Squeeze and then slide the width guide to the correct position for the pa per size you are loading. 3 Squeeze and then slide the le ngth guide to th e correct position for the paper size yo u are loading. Note: The lengt h gui de has a lockin g devi ce.
• Place pre-pu nched paper with the holes toward the fro nt of the tray. • Place letterh eads faceup with the header on the left side o f the tray. • Place let terhead s f acedown with the he ader on the righ t side o f the tray fo r duplex print ing.
Loading the 2000 ‑ sheet h igh ‑ capacity feeder The high ‑ capacity feeder can hold up to 2,000 sheets of A4 ‑ , letter ‑ , or legal ‑ size paper (80 g /m 2 or 20 lb). CAUTION—PO TENTIAL IN JURY: To reduce the ri sk of e quipme nt inst abilit y, load ea ch paper drawer o r tray separately.
