1 C HA PT ER 1: S AF E T Y I NFO RMA TION This Safety sectio n contai ns impo rtant instructions that should be follo wed during installation a nd main te nance of the APC equipment and batteries. It is intended for APC customers who setup, install, relocate, o r m aintai n APC equi p m e nt .

3 Rec ycling of Batteries See your dealer or Re placing Modules in the S Y MMETRA RM O PER ATION M A NUAL , for information on replacement battery kits an d battery recycling. • Do not insta ll the batt ery module( s) in the frame until you ar e ready to po wer up the Symmetra RM.

9 Input Voltag e Selection Switch : Set this switch to th e appropriate sett ing, ei ther 200/208 (L1- L2-G ) or 220/230/24 0 (L1-N- G) before pow ering up the Symm etra RM. Products r ated 200/208 a re typi cally installed in N orth America (208 V, phas e to phase, grou nding conductor) and Japan (200V, phase to ph ase, groun ding conductor).

11 C HA PT ER 3: I NST AL L A T ION Unp acking APC has taken care to design robus t packaging for you r product. However, accident s and damage m ay occur during shipmen t. Inspection Inspect the UPS upon receipt. Notify the carrier and dealer if there is damage.
12 Determ ine the Locatio n of the S ymm etra RM in the Rac k 1. Select a location for th e S ym metra RM in your NetShelter enclosure or other 19-in ch (46.5 cm) rack. Select a location with adequate air flo w that is fr ee from excess ive dust. Ensure that the air vents o n the sid es of the Sym metra are not b locked.
13 Install th e UPS int o the Rack 1. With tw o people supporting t he Symmetra R M, one on each side, carefully align the cleats on the sides of the unit with the grooves on th e mounting rails.
14 1. Make sure the main circuit break er , located on the rear panel, is in the OFF positio n. 2. Select the appropriate w ire size and connectors, accordin g to local codes. For m ost applicat ions, #10 AWG (5 s q. mm) wire shoul d be suffi cient.
15 Use one of the f ollowing cable types to conn ect the Symmetra RM to the EPO switch: CL2 Class 2 cable for general use. CL2P Plenum cable for use in ducts, plen ums, and other s paces used for environm ental air. CL2R Riser cable for use in a vertical run in a shaft of from fl oor to floor.
16 Install b attery modules just prior to running the Sym metra RM. Th e battery modu les discharge slo wly when loaded p rematurel y and can be damaged p ermanently. Each battery module weig hs 21.8 kg (48 lbs). Two peop le are req uired to i nstall or rem ove battery m odules.
17 A PPEND IX A : E LECTRICAL W IRING C HECKLIST Complete this checklist to ensu re that the Symmetra RM has been wired properly . Ensure that all switches (system enable, maintenance bypass, input circuit breaker, and bypass circuit breaker) are in the Off or Stand By position.
