5 1. Overview 1.1. Introduction Thank you for choosing FNS-5000B NA S. This product has the foll owin g key features: 9 Support two SA T A HDD with embedded RAID function to enhance dat a security 9 E.

7 2. Installation 2.1. Inst all Hard Disk 1. Unfasten the four screws in the front of FNS- 5000B and remove the front p anel. 2. Loosen the screws on the disk tr ays and t ake out the disk trays. 3. Install a hard disk on ea ch tray . Make sure the disk holes match the holes at the base of the disk tray and lock t he disk with four screws.
8 4. Insert the disk trays to FNS-5000B. Push the disk trays to the end. Fasten the screws on the trays. When two disks are inst alled, make sure HDD1 is installed on t op of HDD2.
9 2.2. Hard Disk Recommendation List The following HDD models are verified by LevelO ne that are compatible with FNS-500 0B. It is recommended to use the disk models listed here. Other HDD brands t hat are not tested by LevelOne may or may not work properly with FNS-5000B.
10 2.3. Setting Up Please check your network environment and sele ct the appropriate installatio n method before installing FNS-500 0B. 2.3.1. Office/ Home Connect FNS-5000B and PC to the sam e hub/ switch/ router . 2.3.2. Individual Connect FNS-5000B direct ly to your PC by a network cable.
11 When you have verified your network environment, please follow the step s below to install FNS-5000B. 1. Connect FNS-5000B to hub/ switch/ rou ter or PC according your network environment. 2. Connect USB printer to FNS-500 0B and enable USB printer service * .
12 2.4. LED / System S t atus FNS-5000B provides LED indicators for you to i ndicate system status an d information easily . When FNS-5000B is turned on, plea se check the following items to make sure system status is normal.

14 2.5. Configure Sof tware Settings After che cking system stat us, please follow t he ste ps below to confi gure soft ware settings of FNS-5000B. The co nfiguration procedure of Windows and Mac u sers are diff ere nt. Please select the appropriate pro ced ure a ccording to your OS.
15 2. After inst alled, run Quick Inst all Wizard, the following screen will be shown. Select name on the list and click Configure Enter the default user name and p assword.
16 When you have entered quick config uration page, ente r related information to complete the settings. Click OK to save c hanges. Note: If you select to enter IP address manually , please make sure your PC and FNS-5000B are in the same LA N. If you are not sure about the network settings, please conta ct your network administrator or ISP .
17 FNS-5000B provides several default sha re folde rs for dat a sharing and access. T o map the share folders on FNS-5 000B as you r drive, check the option “Map drive” and follow the steps below to pro ceed. a. For example, to map the folder Public as your drive, select the folder and click Map Network Driv e .
18 c. Upon successful conne ctio n, you can st art to use the sha re folder on FNS-5000B. Y ou can access the se fold ers by op ening My Computer . 3. Quick Install Wizard will a ppear when all conf igu rations are completed. Double -click on the name of FNS-5000B on the list to enter administration p age.
19 4. When the administration p age of FNS - 5000B is shown, you can st art to use the services. If you have any questions during web a dmini stration, please click t he help button on the top right hand corner of the p age. T o modify s ystem settings, click Administration .
20 2.5.2. Mac Users FNS-5000B provides two methods for Mac users to con nect to FNS-5000B. Y ou can select A. Connect FNS-5000B by Mac directly or B. Conne ct FNS-5 000B by the network . A. Connect FNS-5000B by Mac directly 1. Please go to Network setti ngs a nd select Using DHCP .
21 3. When the administration p age is shown, click Administra tion . Enter the default user name and passwo rd to login. Default user name: administrator Password: admin 4. Follow the step-by-step gu ide in Qui ck Configuration to complete t he settings of FNS- 5000B.
22 B. Connect FNS-5000B by the network 1. Please go to Network setti ngs to che ck and write down the subnet and route r address of your Mac. Then sel ect Using DHCP . Note: If you are not sure about the network settings, plea se cont act your network administrator or IS P .
23 3. When the administration p age is shown, click Administra tion . Enter the default user name and passwo rd to login. Default user name: administrator Password: admin.
24 4. Go to TCP/IP Configuration of Network Settings . Select to use sta t ic IP and input the IP addre s s of FNS-500 0B. Make sure the value does not conflict with the IP address of your Mac and other devices in LA N.
25 5. Click Ye s to rest art FNS-5000B for the changes to t ake effect. Please wait patie ntly for FNS-5000B to rest art. 6. Connect your Mac and FNS-5000B to the net work. O pen a web browser and enter the IP address of FNS-5000B you set up in step 4.
26 7. Click Administration and enter the def ault user name and p assword to login. Default user name: administrator Password: admin 8. Follow the step-by-step gu ide in Qui ck Configuration to complete t he settings of FNS- 5000B.
27 3. Powerful Services FNS-5000B provides the following pow erful functions and ap plicati ons. A. Use network share-Public folder 1. Y ou can access the p ubli c folder of FNS-5000B by the following means: a. Open My Network Places and find the wo rkgro up of FNS-5 000B.
28 B. Manage FNS-5000B Manage FNS-5000B using w eb browser by Windows ® or Mac 1. Y ou can access F NS-5000 B web administr ation p age by the following methods: a.
29 2. When the administration p age is shown, click Administra tion , Web File Manag er , Web Server , Multimedia S tation , or Download St ation . Enter the user name and password, and then start to manage FNS-5000B. For further det ails, please refer to the user manual in FNS-5000B CD-ROM.
30 C. Use FNS-5000B Services Multimedia St ation FNS-5000B provides a user-friendly we b management interface for you to manag e personal albums easily . Y ou can view images and multimedia files, or browse photos by thumbnails preview . Please refer to Chapter 5.

32 3.2. Quick Configuration Please follow the step-by-step guide in Quick Configuration to complete the se ttings of FNS- 5000B. If you have any questions during web adm inistratio n, please click the help button on the top right hand corner of the pag e.
33 Step 2. Change the administrator password o r select to use the original pa ssword. Step 3. Enter the date, time and select the time zone for the server . Step 4. Select the language the server uses to display files and directories. The default setting is English .
34 Step 5. Enter the IP address, subnet mask and default gatew ay for the server . Step 6. Initialize disk volume in FNS-500 0B for the first time configuration.

36 3.3. System Settings Basic system settings include the se rver name, date, time, and view system settings. 3.3.1. Server Name Enter the name of FNS-5000B. The server na me can be 14 characters long at maximum, which supports alph abet s, numbers and hyphen (-).
37 3.3.2. Date & Time Set the date, time, and time zone according to your location. If the settings are incorre ct, the following problems may occur: 9 When using a web browser to a ccess or save a file, the display time of the action will be incorrect.
38 3.3.3. Encoding Setting Select the language FNS-5000B uses to display files a nd dire ctories. Note: All files and directories on FNS-5 000B will be created using Unicode encoding. If your FTP client s or the OS of your PC does not support Unicode, e.
39 3.4. Network Settings Y ou can configure n etwork settings in this sect ion and enable several powerful application s of FNS-5000B, e.g. Multimedia S tation, Download S tation, and W eb Server . 3.4.1. TCP/ IP Configuration Y ou can sele ct one of the followin g two me thods to configure the TCP/IP settings 1.
40 Jumbo Frame Setting (MTU) "Jumbo frames" refer to Ethernet frames that are larger than 15 00 bytes. It is designed to enhance Ethernet networking throu ghp ut and reduce the CPU utilization of large file transfers by enabling more ef fici ent larger p aylo ads per pa cket.
41 3.4.2. Microsoft Netw orking Enable file service for Microsof t networking: If you are using Microsoft Wind ows, enable this service to access the files on network sh are fold ers. Assign a workgroup name. 9 St andalone Server Use local users for user authentication.
42 3.4.3. Apple Network T o use FNS-5000B on Apple Mac operating sy stem, enable AppleT alk network support. If your AppleT alk network uses ex tended networks, and is assigned with multiple zones, assign a zone name to FNS-5000B. If you do not want to assign a network zone, enter an asteri sk (*) to use the default setting.
43 3.4.5. FTP Service When you enable FTP service, you can define the port number for the service a n d maximum number of users connected to the FTP at the same time.
44 3.4.6. Multimedia Station T o share multimedia files like photos, musi c or video files on the network, plea se enabl e Multimedia S tation. For further information, plea se ref er to Chapter 5. UPnP Media Serv er FNS-5000B support s UPnP technology which br ings you greater convenie nce t o enjoy multimedia files.
45 3.4.7. Download Station T o use P2P download function of FNS-5 000B, please enable Do wnl oad S tation. For further information, please refer to Chapter 6. 47 3.5. Device Configuration Y ou can configure SA T A disk, USB disk and USB printer settings in this se ction..
48 3.5.1. SATA Disk This page sh ows the model, size and current st atu s of the disk(s) install ed on FNS-5000B. Y ou can format and ch eck disks, and scan bad blo cks on the di sks.
49 Y ou can create the followin g disk volumes: • Single Disk V olume Each disk will be used as a st andalone disk. However , if a disk is damaged, all data will be lost. • RAID 1 Mirroring Disk V olume RAID 1 (mirroring disk) protect s your data by automatically backing up the conten ts of one drive onto the second drive of a mirrored p a ir .
50 3.5.2. USB Disk FNS-5000B support s USB disks and th umb drives for extended storage. Connect the USB device to the USB port of FNS-5000B, when the dev ice is succe ssfully detected, the det ails will be shown on this page.
51 3.5.3. USB Printer 1. T o provide printer sharing function for network users, you can simpl y connect a USB printer to the USB port of FNS-5000B. FNS- 5000B will detect the printer automatically . 2. A printer icon should be sh own in the share folder of the server .
52 3. Install the printer driver . 4. When finished, you can st art to us e network printer service of F NS-5000B. Note: 1. FNS-5000B support s general USB printer only but not multifunction printe r . 2. FNS-5000B printer service is only su pported in Windows OS but not Mac OS.
53 3.6. User Management The files on FNS-5000B can be share d a mong multiple users. For easier ma nagement and better control of users’ access right, you have to organize users, user group s and their access right control. 3.6.1. Users The system has created the following users by defa ult: 1.
54 512 users can be created at maximum (including system default users). You can create a new user according to your needs. The following information is required to create a new user: 9 User name The user name must not exceed 32 ch ara cte rs.
55 3.6.2. User Groups User group is a collection of users with t he same access right to files or folders. FNS-5000B has created the following user gro ups by default: 1. Administrators All members in this group have administrat ion right. You cannot del ete this group.
56 Create Users and Assig n Users to User Group The following example demonst rate s how to create new users an d assign u sers to a user group. ABC Co. has recently recruited two em ployees Mr. Jones Lee for Administration Departme nt and Ms. Jane Wu for Sales Department.
57 iii. Select the user groups th e users belong to on the right list, i.e. Mr. Jones Lee for Administration Dept and Ms. Jane Wu for Sales Dept, and cli ck Add .
58 Create Private Net work Share for User Groups You can create particular network share for each user grou p. The p rocedure is described as below: 1. To create a network share calle d media acce ssi ble by Administration Departme nt only, please go to “User Management—Use r Groups” page.
59 3. You can see the folder media in Network Share Managemen t page. 4. Enter Access Control. You can see that only Administration Dept has full acce ss right to the folder.
60 3.6.3. Quota T o allocate disk volume efficiently , you can sp ecify the quot a that can be u sed by each user . When this function is enabled and a u se r has re ached his/her disk quot a, he/she cannot upload data t o the server anymore. By default, no limitations are set for u sers.
61 2. Select Jones Lee on User page a nd click Quota Settings on the right. 3. Enter the quota size 2000MB and click OK . 4. Follow the same steps and enter the qu ota size 4000MB for Jane Wu and cli ck OK .
62 3.7. Network Share Management The primary purpose of network sto rage is file sharing. You can create different network share folders for various types of files, and provid e different file access rights to users or user groups.
63 3.7.1. Create T o create a network share, enter the following information: 9 Network share name The length of the network share name cannot exceed 32 sin gle-byte characters or 10 double-byte characters, and can not co ntain the followi ng characters: " .
64 3.7.2. Property To edit the property of an existing netwo rk share, select a share an d click Prope rty . You can then edit the content of that share.
65 3.7.3. Access Control When a network share is created, you can assign access right s to users or user groups: 9 Deny access Access to the network share will be denied. 9 Read only Users can read the files on ly on the network sha re. 9 Full access Users can read, write, create, or delete files and fold ers o n the network share.
66 3.7.5. Restore If the default network shares of FNS-50 00B ar e not created su ccessfu lly, you can use the Restore function to restore the network shares.
67 3.8. System T ools System Tools enable you to optimize the maintenance and management of FNS-500 0B..
68 3.8.1. Alert Notification Enter the e-mail address of the administr ator and t he I P addre ss of the SMTP server . In case of warning or malfunction, e.g. CPU fan fails , a drive fails or is unplugge d, an em ail will be sent to the administrator automatically .
69 3.8.3. Hardware Settings Y ou can enab l e or disable t he har dware functions of FNS-5000B. i. Enable configuration reset switch By enabling this option, you can press the re set button for 5 seconds to reset th e administrator password and system settings to default.
70 3.8.4. System Update Note: If the system is running properly , you do not need to update t he firmware. Before updating system firmware, plea se make sure the product model and firm ware version are correct.
71 3.8.5. Change Logo You can choose your own picture to display on t he login pag e of FNS-5 000B. The size of the picture cannot exceed 20K bytes..
72 3.8.6. Remote Replicat ion (Disaster Recovery) Remote Replication enable s you to repli cate files on FNS-5000B to another FNS-5000B or LevelOne NAS series. The files will be compressed befor e the replication pr ocess in order t o save time for data transfer .
73 b. Complete all setting s and click OK to save or Cancel to quit. Note: T o use remote replication, enabl e Microsoft Networkin g service, make sure the destination network share and directo r y have been created, and the user name and p a ssword are valid to login the destination folder .
74 ii. Edit a. Select the t ask to be edited. b. Click Edit . c. Modify the settings. d. Click OK to save or Cancel to quit. iii. Delete a. Select the t ask to be deleted.
75 3.8.7. Backup/ Rest ore/ Reset Settings • To backup all settings, including user accoun ts, server name a nd n etwork configuration etc., click Backup an d select to open or save the setting file. • To restore all settings, click Browse to select a previously saved setting file and click Restore to confirm.
76 3.9. Event Logs FNS-5000B can store thousands of re cent event logs, in cluding warning, error a nd information messages. In case of system malf unction, event logs can b e retri eved to analyze system problems.
77 4. Copy USB Ports Data Directly FNS-5000B supports dire ct copy of data on U SB devices to FNS-5000B by using the Copy button. To use this function, please follow the steps below: 1. Make sure a SA T A disk is install ed correctly in FNS-5000B according to the instructions in Chapter 2.

79 3. Click on the top right hand corner . Login with administrator name and password to manage Multimedia S tation. Users without adm inistration right can view the phot os and multimedia files on Multimedia S tation but they do not have the right to modify the files.

84 6. Download Station FNS-5000B support s P2P download mechanism. Y ou can add download t ask to FNS-5000B and let the server finish downloading ind epen dent of PC. Note: Please be warned against illegal downloadi ng of copyrighted materials. The Download S tation functionality is provided for downloading authorized files only .
85 2. Click on the link http://FNS -5000B IP/Qdownload on Download S tation page or click Download S tation on the login page of FNS-5 000B t o access Download S tation.
86 3. Click Add new download task on the lef t and upload a torrent file. Y ou can download legal torrent files by searching on the Internet. There are websites that provide legally sharing torrents e.g. www .legaltorrents.com . Please do wnload the torrent files to your local disk and then upload them to FNS-5000B.
87 5. Y ou can select an available download t ask and click Set Share T ime to configure the time for sharing the torrent file, or click Set Config to set the maximum number of downloads at the same time (default value is 3).
88 6. T o pause a running do wnload task, select the t a sk in View Run l ist and click Pause/ Rest art download task. Y ou can view tasks that are p a used or finishe d in View Pau se Li st and V iew Finish List respectively . T o restart a p aused ta sk, select the task in V iew Pause List and click Pause/ Restart download t ask.
89 8. T o delete a running, paused, or fini shed ta sk, select the t ask and click Delete download task. Y ou can select to remove the download t a sk only and retai n the downloaded files, or remove the task a nd do wnloaded files. 9. T o logout Download S tation, click on the top right hand corner .

92 7. Web Server FNS-5000B enables you to upload web pages and m anage your own website easily by W eb Server function. It also support s PHP and SQLite for you to establish an interactive website. Once you activate Web Server function, you can ac cess your own homep ag e from anywhere.
93 The file index.html or index.htm will be the home p ath of your webpage. 3. Click on the link http://FNS-5000B IP/ on Web Se rver p age or click Web Server on the login page of FNS-5000B to access the web p age you upload.
94 SQLite Management SQLiteManager is a multilingual web-based t ool to manage SQLite databa se s and can be downloaded from http://w ww.sqlitemanager.org/. Please follow the steps below or refer to the INSTALL file in the downloaded SQLiteManager- *.
95 8. FTP Server FNS-5000B supports FTP servi ce. To us e FTP service, enable this function in Network Settings and follow the steps below: 1. Open an IE browser and ent er f tp://[FNS-5000B I P] or ftp://[FNS-5000B name]. OR 2. By Web File Manager of FNS-5000B.

97 9. Web File Manager Using Web F ile Manager T o use Web File Manager , enable web service in Network Settings first. Launch the web browse r a nd go to FNS-5000B administration p age. Select Web File Manager and enter the correct login name and p assword.
98 Select an existing network share. Y ou can organize sha re folders of FNS-5000B. With W eb File Manager , you can upload, rename, or delete files and folders in the network shares. Vie w files online Click on a file displayed on the web page. The information of the file will be shown.

103 10.3. Disk Failure or Malfunction When you encounter disk malfunction or failure, please do the followin g: 1. Record the malfunction status or e rror m essages shown in Event Logs. 2. S top using the failed FNS-5000B and turn off the server . 3. Contact customer service for technical support.
104 11. Appendix - Quick Install Wizard Main Screen Y ou can configure NAS by sele ct NAS on list and click Configure , Login window pop-up and ask login name and p assword Upon successful login, the following screen will appear . Enter the configuration values and click OK.
105 For further configuration of the system, pleas e login th e admini stration page of F NS-5000B via web browser . Note: Y ou may have to restart FNS-5000B af ter changing the network configuration. Set the name, date and time for FNS- 5000B. The length cann ot exceed 14 charac ters.

107 Map Drive Select a NAS and click Map Drive. Select the correct network share and click Map Network Drive. Then select the drive letter for the connection.
108 Refresh Search for all available NAS again. T o refresh t he search result s, click Refresh to display all available servers within the network. Help If you have any enquiries about Quick Inst all Wiza rd when using the program, you can click the Help button to view the help text.
