Putting the comput er into sleep mode or shutting it down T o conserve power , put the computer int o sleep mode or shut it down when the comput er is not in use. Putting your computer into sleep mode If you will be away from your computer for a short time, put the comput er int o sleep mode.
• The way you use your computer: how often you access the har d disk drive, how bright you make the computer display . Using the ac power adapter The power to run your computer can come either from the lithium-ion battery pack pr ovided with it, or from ac power through the ac power adapter .
• Use the battery until the charge is complet ely depleted; that is, use the battery until the battery status indicator starts blinking orange. • Recharge the batt ery complet ely befor e using it. The batt ery is fully char ged if the battery indicator shows green when the ac power adapter is plugged in.

5 7. Remove the scr ews and detach the brackets fr om the har d disk drive. 8. Attach the br acket to a new har d disk drive and reinstall the screws to secur e the bracket. 9. Place the new hard disk drive into the hard disk drive bay with the tab facing upwar ds and the connectors facing each other .
1 2 2 1 5. If two memory modules ar e already in the memory slots, press out on the latches on both edges of the socket at the same time 3 , and then remove a memory module to make room for the new one. Save the removed memory module for future use. 4 3 3 6.

6 5 Note: If you install a memory module in only one of the two memory slots, install it in the bottom slot. 8. Pivot the memory module downwar d until it snaps into place. 9. Make sur e that the memory module is rmly installed in the slot and cannot be moved easily .
1. T urn off the computer; then disconnect the ac power adapt er and all cables from the computer . Wait for a few minutes, till the inside of the comput er cools, before you start the following procedur es. 2. Close the comput er display, and turn the comput er over .
9. Connect the antenna cables to the new PCI Express Mini Car d. Be sur e t o attach the gr ay cable to the connector marked “MAIN” or “M” on the card, and the black cable to the connector marked “ AUX” or “ A ”. 10. Reinstall the comput er cover , and then r einstall the scr ews to secur e the cover .

Chapter 8. P r eventing pr oblems An important part of owning a L enovo notebook computer is maint enance. With pr oper car e, you can avoid common pr oblems.
T aking care of your computer Although your comput er is designed to function reliably in normal work envir onments, you need t o use common sense in handling it. By following these important tips, you will get the most use and enjoyment out of your computer .
• Be sure to turn off the power and close the L CD when not in use. • When you leave the computer in your car , place it on the back seat to avoid being insolated.

Chapter 9. T r oubleshooting computer problems This chapter provides information on what to do if you experience a pr oblem with your computer . Notice for users in U .S.A • If your product is not working correctly, DO NO T RETURN IT T O THE S T ORE.
The battery pack cannot be char ged. Y ou cannot char ge the battery when it is too hot. If the batt ery feels hot, r emove it fr om the comput er and allow it t o cool t o r oom temper atur e. After it cools, reinstall it and rechar ge the batt ery .
• Pr ess Fn+F2 to conrm whether the L CD scr een has been turned off. If the problem persists, follow the solution to “The scr een is unreadable or distorted. ” on page 53 . The screen is unreadable or distorted. Make sure that: • The display device driver is installed correctly .
This is a normal char act eristic of a hard disk drive and is not a defect. The hard disk drive does not work. On the Boot menu of the BIOS, make sure that the hard disk drive is on the Boot priority order list. If it is on the Ex cluded fr om boot order list, it is disabled.
A sound pr oblem Print these instructions now and keep it with your comput er for refer ence lat er . No sound can be hear d from the speak er even when the volume is turned up. Make sure that: • The mute function is off. • The headphone jack is not used.
