Overcurr ent Prote ction The Surge Protection Device (SPD ) draws very little current under normal conditions and will only conduct for a brief duration upon e ncountering a tr ansient s ur ge voltage. APC SPD ’ s contain UL Listed internal fusi ng to protect against abnormal voltage con ditions.
Parallel Connection When making a parallel type of connection (Figure 1), the length of the wiring to the Sur ge Protection Device (SPD) must be kept as sh ort as possible to substantiall y enhance the performance. Long wire ru ns are to be avoided if the unit is to perform as intended.
3. Open the door on the u nit by loosening the two s crews that secure the door latches in place. Slide the top latch upward and rotate it so that it no longer secures th e door . Slide the bottom latch downwar d and rotate it so that it no longer secur es the door .
8. Use an AC vo ltmeter to check all voltages to ensur e that the proper un it type has b een installed for the s ervice rat- ing being protected. Page 7 Phase A Phase B Phase C Neutral Ground Not to exact sc ale.
Disconne ct Switch Optio n All APC modular series SPDs can be equipped with an optional internal disconnect switch (Figure 3). The disconnect switch provides a means to de-ener gize the entire suppress or , to facili tate servicing of unit ’ s components.
Operation and Features SPD ’ s do not require alot of operator interventio n a fter install ation. NOTE: The PM Series has a green LED for each phase which exting uishes when the mod ule is no longer provid ing protecti on (fau lt conditi on ).
