SSH ⎯ see page 143 Serial tunneling ⎯ see page 144 This chapter conclude s with a description of modem emulation (pag e 147) .
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 142 How SSL Works SSL uses cryptography to deliver authenti cation and privacy to message transm ission over the Internet. SSL permits the communica tion of client/server applications without eavesdropping and message tampe ring.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 143 Certificate provides the receiver with a way to encode a reply. Digital Certificates come in 40-bit and 128-bit versions. There are two principal ways that a Digital Certificate can be obtained.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 144 Tunneling Tunneling provides a way to create a co nnection between two serial device s across an untrusted network so the device s can share data.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 145 Tunneling and the EDS Each EDS serial port supp orts two concurrent tunneling connections, Co nnect mode and Accept mode. These con nections operate i ndependen tly of the other EDS serial ports.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 146 Connect Mode has six variations: Disabled (no connection) Enabled (always makes a conne ction) Active if it sees any character .
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 147 To clear out data from the serial buffers upon di sconnecting, configure the EDS to flush serial data (see Tunnel – Disconnect Mode Page on page 62 . Packing Mode Packing mode takes data from the serial port, groups it together, and sen ds it out to nodes on the network.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 148 Command Mode The Modem Emulation’s Command m ode supports the standard AT command set. For a list of available commands from the serial or telnet login, enter AT?.
C: Networking and Security EDS Device Servers User Guide 149 (Since the remote port was not specified in the ATDT comm and, the remote port defined under Connect mode is u sed.) Entering ATDT 28.150 causes the EDS to assume the first two octets in the IP address and connects to the remote IP address 192.
