Section 3 Operation Overview 3-4 • Calculating th e power for the calculat ed bandwidth The noise generator can be explained by the following thr ee parameters. Noise Bandwid th: Sets the band for the noise to be gener ated. Bandwidth set here is for the flat part of the noise as shown in the figure below .
3.1 Setting the Parameters 3-5 Example: Suppose that the following parameters ar e set for this unit: Output Level : − 10 dBm Digital Mod : On System : Noise1 Noise Bandwidth : 7.68 MHz Calculated Bandwidth : 3.84 MHz From Formula (1), Power within the calculated band width = RF output level + Calculat ed level = − 10 dBm + ( − 3.
Section 3 Operation Overview 3-6. 3.2 Power Accuracy for the Calculated Bandwidth From Formula (1) in Section 3.1, accu racy for the power within the calcu- lated bandwidth vari es depending on the accurac y for the RF output lev el and the power calculati on level.

5.1 Calibration of the Output Level 5-3 <Points> In this calibration method, the output level accurac y of this unit can be ig- nored because the output level is directly measured b y the power meter . Conversely , by changing the output level of this unit after calibration, its accuracy affects the level accuracy .
Section 5 Sample Calibrat ion 5-4 (4) Set the output lev el for this unit so that the indicati on value of the power meter becomes the total power found in Step (2). This com- pletes calibration to the –73 dBm/3.84 MHz noise level at the input connector terminal of the rec eiver .
5.1 Calibration of the Output Level 5-5 5.1.4 Calibration using the offset setti ng function of the RF output level Using the offs et setting funct ion of the RF outp ut level of th e MG3681A with “(Absolut e)” display , the noise level can be easily ca librated, as de- scribed below .
