KiWi Panoramic T ripod Head Ov er vie w Thank you f or purchasing a Kaidan KiWi™ Panoramic T ripod Head. This manual is designed to help y ou understand how to use y our KiWi to create quality panoramas. This docu- ment will be re vised occasionally and updated versions can be do wnloaded from the KiW i page on the Kaidan web site.
The KiWi Family T win-Axis Camera Brack et (Optional) The Twin-Axis Camera Brack et is de- signed to support most digital and film cameras that are equipped with fishe ye lenses, and will also appeal to those users who desir e two independent ax es of adjustment.
KiWi ClickDiscs Disassembly 1) The Rotator Base is held together with a recessed set scr ew which is located at the zero degr ee position on the barr el. Use the set scre w wrench lo- cated in the blue accessory pouch and loosen the set scre w (do not remov e) by turning sev eral rev olutions counter -clockwise .
KiWi ClickDiscs Assembly 1) Install the appr opriate ClickDisc into the ca vity on the top of the barr el. Be sure to orient the tab of the ClickDisc into the notch of the barr el. Push the ClickDisc into posi- tion. 2) Place the horizontal plate ov er the barrel and reinsert the axle.
KiWi Rotator Base T r ipod threaded bushing adapter The KiWi comes with a tripod ada pt- er bushing which accommodates both 1/4-20 inch and 3/8-16 inch threaded tripod mounts. 1/4 inch T ripod If your tripod has a 1/4 inch thr eaded mount, leav e the brass bushing in the center hole in the bottom of the rota- tor as shown at low er left.
Spring Plunger Indexing How to adjust the spring force and clic k-stop action. The KiWi uses a spring plunger which is threaded into the horizontal plate.
Standar d Camera Brack et - Camera Mounting Mounting your camera on the Standar d Camera Br ack et T o mount y our camera, first select the appr opriate slot in the bracket that will best locate the tripod mount- ing thread on y our camera. Y ou ma y need to reposition the camera knob .
T win-Axis Camera Brack et (Optional) Mounting your camera on the T win-Axis Camer a Brack et The Twin-Axis Camera Brack- et is offer ed as an optional choice when purchasing a KiW i . Y ou can also purchase it separatel y . The T win Axis Brack et has two separate axes of adjustment.
Quick Release Camera Mounts (Optional) Arca Swiss Style Quick Release Plates Both the Standard Camera Brack et and the T win-Axis Bracket can be order ed or upgraded with a Quick Release Mount. These mounts are simpl y bolted on the respectiv e bracket and mak e it easy to remo ve and replace y our camera in seconds.
Nodal P oint This is one of the most frequentl y ask ed questions when it comes to stitcher -based panorama creation. Once you understand the basics, you’ll be able to easily locate the nodal point for an y camera and lens combination. Simply put, the nodal point is the point inside your camera wher e the light ra ys converge and flip o ver .
Nodal P oint (contin ued) viewfinder , find another v er tical edge or line that is far a way , such as another building or telephone pole. Align the two objects and r otate the pan head so they ar e in the left hand side of the viewfinder . Rotate the pan head so the two objects mov e over to the right hand side of the viewfinder .
Shooting Panoramas How much Ov erlap? The amount you turn the camera f or each shot varies. It is dependent on a number of factors such as the field of view (the angle) of your camera and lens, as well as which program y ou intend to use.
