G-1 Caution–– STANDBY/ON button! Disconnect the mains plug to shut the power off completely (the standby lamp goes off). When installing the apparatus, ensure that the plug is easily accessible. The STANDBY/ON button in any position does not disconnect the mains line.

4 Putting batteries in the remote control Bef ore using the remote control, put two supplied batteries first. 1 Press and slide the battery co ver on the back of the remote contr ol. 2 Inser t batteries. Make sure to match the polarity: (+) to (+) and (–) to (–).

11 2. Check if the driver s are correctly installed. 1. Open the Control P anel on your PC: Select [Star t] = [Control P anel]. 2. Select [System] = [Hardware] = [De vice Manager] = [Sound, video and game controllers] and [Univ ersal Serial Bus controllers].

13 3 Adjust the volume T o increase the v olume , turn MASTER V OLUME control c lockwise (or press V OLUME + on the remote contr ol). T o decrease the v olume , turn MASTER V OLUME control counter cloc kwise (or press V OLUME – on the remote contr ol).
14 Basic adjustment of auto memory This receiv er memorizes sound settings f or each source: • when y ou tur n off the pow er , and • when y ou change the source. When you change the source , the memor ized settings f or the newly selected source are automatically recalled.
15 FM/AM tuner operations T uning in to FM/AM stations manually From the remote control ONL Y : 1 Press FM/AM to select the band. The last receiv ed station of the selected band is tuned in. • Each time y ou press the button, the band alternates between “FM” and “AM.
16 3 Press the numeric b uttons (0 – 9, h 10) to select a channel number while the c hannel number position is flashing. • F or channel number 5, press 5. • F or channel number 10, press h 10, 1, then 0. • F or channel number 15, press h 10, 1, then 5.
17 About XM Satellite Radio XM Satellite Radio is a satellite radio with digital-quality sound and ov er 100 digital channels—100% commercial-free music channels, o ver 30 channels of ne ws, spor ts, talk and enter tainment, and ov er 20 channels of traffic and weather .
18 7 Direct Channel Access Y ou can tune in to the desired channel directly by entering the channel number . Before y ou star t, remember ... There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing steps . If the setting is canceled bef ore you finish, start from step 2 again.
19 4 Press MEMOR Y again while the selected preset number is flashing on the displa y . 5 Repeat steps 1 to 4 until y ou store all the desired channels. T o erase a stored preset channel Storing a new channel on a used preset number er ases the pre viously stored one.
20 T o obtain the best possib le sound effect from Surround/DSP modes (see pages 30 to 34), y ou need to set up the speaker and subwoof er information after all the connections are completed. F rom pages 20 to 25, how to set speak ers and other basic items of the receiv er are explained.
21 Speakers (channels) number and the size Y ou can find how each of the speak er size is defined according to the number of connected speak ers (speaker channel “ch” n umber) you select. • Subwoof er is counted as 0.1 channel. The size of connected speakers CH L/R C LS/RS SB SUBWFR 2.

24 Selecting the main or sub channel —DUAL MONO Y ou can select the playbac k sound (channel) you want while pla ying digital software recorded (or broadcasted) in Dual Mono mode (see page 31), which includes two monaural channels separately . When the receiver detects Dual mono signals, the DU AL MONO indicator lights up on the displa y .
25 Setting the digital input (DIGIT AL IN) terminals—DIGIT AL IN 1/2/3 When you use the digital input terminals, register what components are connected to which terminals—DIGIT AL IN 1/2/3 (see page 10) so that the correct source name will appear when you select the digital source .
26 Sound adjustments Y ou can make sound adjustment to y our preference after completing basic setting. Basic adjustment items Y ou can adjust the follo wing items. See pages in parentheses f or details. • Y ou cannot select the items which are not av ailable with the current setting.
27 Adjusting the equalization patterns— D EQ 63Hz/250Hz/1kHz/4kHz/16kHz Y ou can adjust equalization patter ns in fiv e frequency bands (center frequency: 63 Hz, 250 Hz, 1 kHz, 4 kHz, 16 kHz) for the front speakers . • Once you ha ve made an adjustment, it is memorized f or each source.

29 Adjusting the center channel localization for Pro Logic IIx Music and Pro Logic II Music—CENTER WIDTH This setting is av ailable when Pro Logic IIx Music or Pro Logic II Music is activated f or the analog or digital 2-channel sound signal. T o activ ate Pro Logic IIx Music or Pro Logic II Music, see page 34.
30 Creating realistic sound fields Reproducing theater ambience In a movie theater , many speak ers are located on the walls to reproduce impressive m ulti-channel sound, reaching you from all directions. With these many speak ers, sound localization and sound mov ement can be expressed.
31 DTS Neo:6 DTS Neo:6 is another conv ersion method to create 6-channel (plus subwoof er) from analog/digital 2-channel software by using the high precision digital matrix decoder used for DTS-ES Matrix 6.1ch. • This receiv er provides the follo wing DTS Neo:6 modes— Neo:6 Cinema (NEO:6 CINEMA) and Neo:6 Music (NEO:6 MUSIC).
32 Introducing the DSP modes The sound heard in a concer t hall, club , etc. consists of direct sound and indirect sound—early reflections and reflections from behind. Direct sounds reach the listener directly without any reflection. On the other hand, indirect sounds are dela yed by the distances of the ceiling and walls .

36 One-touch DVD play Simply by starting playbac k on the D VD pla yer , you can enjo y the D VD pla yback without setting other s witches manually . • When the D VD player is connected through the analog input jacks on this receiv er (and analog input is selected), the receiv er automatically tur ns on and changes the source to “D VR/D VD .
37 Y ou can use the supplied remote control to operate not onl y this receiver but also other JVC pr oducts. • Ref er also to the manuals supplied with the other products. – Some JVC VCRs can accept two types of control signals— remote codes “A” and “B.
38 After setting the mode selector correctly , you can perf or m the follo wing operations on the D VD recorder or D VD play er . See the instructions supplied with the D VD recorder or D VD play er for details. 7 Changing the remote control code for DVD recorder Some JVC D VD recorders can accept f our types of control signals.
