7 About discs Example 1: D VD Example 2 : Video CD/SVCD/Audio CD Disc structure A DVD Video disc consists of “titles,” and each title may be divided into some “chapters.” (See Example 1.) For example, if a DVD disc contains some movies, each movie may have its own title number , and it may be further divided into some chapters.
8 Setting the DISP .SET selector Y ou can place the center unit either vertically (on the supplied stand) or horizontally (without the stand) as illustrated belo w. Before installing the center unit, set the DISP .SET selector according to your selection.
9 Getting started When placing the center unit vertically When placing the center unit vertically , attach the supplied stand. 1 Connect the cords by passing them through the holes of the stand as illustrated below . For connections, see pages 10 to 15.

12 Connecting the po wered subwoof er Connect the supplied powered subwoofer (SP-PWV70) using the supplied system cor d. • Connect the system cord by matching the 5 marks on the plugs to the ones on the system and power ed subwoofer .
13 Getting Started 7 Connecting the satellite (front, center , rear) speakers Connect the satellite speakers to the powered subwoofer using the supplied speaker cor ds. • Connect the white cord to the red (+) terminal and the black cord to the black (–) terminal.
14 Connecting to a digital component Y ou can enjoy the sound of a digital component such as a DBS tuner or MD recor der through this system. Connect a digital component using the digital optical cord (not supplied). NO TES: When pla ying a video component such as a DBS tuner : • T o listen to the sound, operate this system.

16 When attac hing the rear speakers to a wall Using the supplied speaker wall brackets, you can fix the rear speakers to the wall. CA UTION: Attaching the brackets to the wall When attaching the brack ets to the wall, hav e them attached to the wall by a qualified person.
17 When attac hing the center unit to a wall Y ou can attach the center unit to a wall. CA UTIONS: location of attachment to a wall • T ake care when selecting a location for attaching the center unit to the wall.
18 3 Hook the center unit onto the mounted screws, and slide it to left, then down. Make sure that the center unit is attached secur ely . • Adjust the screws if the center unit is not attached securely . NO TES: • Do not place anything on top of the center unit.
19 Getting Started Using the remote contr ol The remote contr ol makes it easy to use many of the functions of the system at a distance of up to 7 m away . • Y ou can also operate other components from the remote contr ol supplied with this system. – T o operate your TV , see page 20.
20 Using the remote contr ol for TV operations Y ou can operate your TV using the remote contr ol supplied with this system. • Refer also to the instruction manuals supplied with your TV . 7 Setting the remote contr ol signal for operating y our TV .
21 Basic operations This section mainly explains operations commonly used when you enjoy this system. • This manual mainly explains operations when the center unit is placed vertically (the DISP .SET selector is set to “V”) as an e xample. • T urn also on your TV and select the corr ect input mode on the TV .
22 T o turn power off From the r emote control: Press AUDIO again. On the center unit: Press again. The illumination lamps and the button name indications (except the indicator) go off. • When placing the center unit vertically , the moving panel closes.
23 T urning off the sound temporarily F rom the remote control ONL Y : Press MUTING. “MUTING” appears on the display window and the volume turns off. T o restore the sound Press MUTING again. • Pressing VOLUME +/– (or VOL +/– on the center unit) also restor es the sound.
24 Adjusting the brightness Y ou can dim the indications on the moving panel and the illumination lamps on the center unit. F rom the remote control ONL Y : Press DIMMER. Each time you press the button, the brightness level of the indications and the illumination lamps changes as follows.
25 Basic operations Changing the decode mode When you play a disc (or softwar e) encoded with Dolby Digital or DTS Digital Surround, the following symptoms may occur: • Sound does not come out at the beginning of playback. • Noise comes out while searching for or skipping chapters or tracks.

30 Sear ching f or a par ticular point Y ou can search for a particular point while playing a disc. 7 Method 1 (from the remote control ONL Y): T o fast-for ward playback, press ¡ during playback. Each time you press the button, the sear ch speed changes as follows.

33 Using the RDS (Radio Data System) to receive FM stations RDS allows FM stations to send an additional signal along with their regular pr ogram signals. For example, the stations send their station names, as well as information about what type of program they br oadcast, such as sports or music, etc.
34 Sear ching f or a program b y PTY codes One of the advantages of the RDS service is that you can locate a particular kind of program from the pr eset channels (see page 31) by specifying the PTY codes. T o sear ch for a pr ogram using the PTY codes Before y ou start, remember .
