ENGLISH 5 1 Functions the same as the ATT / button on the main unit. 2 • Changes the band while listening to the radio . • Skips to the first file of the next directory if pressed while listening to an MP3 disc. • Changes the tape direction while listening to a tape.
6 ENGLISH Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not expose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or artificial lighting).
ENGLISH 7 BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the fir st time, set the b uilt-in clock corr ectly, see page 29. 1 T urn on the power . “ HELLO! ” appears on the display . Note on One-T ouch Operation: When you select a sour ce in step 2 below , the power automatically comes on.
8 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Note: This r eceiver has three FM bands (FM1, FM2, and FM3).
9 ENGLISH Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollowing methods to store broadcasting stations in memor y . • Automatic preset: SSM (Strong-station Sequential Memory) • Manual pre.
10 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that you must store stations first. If you have not stored them yet, see page 9. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3, or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station y ou want.
11 ENGLISH Other convenient tuner functions Scanning broadcast stations 1 Select “ SCAN. ” * When receiving an FM stereo broadcast. 2 Start scanning. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops f or about 5 seconds (tuned frequency number flashes on the displa y), and you can chec k what program is no w being broadcasted.
12 ENGLISH CD OPERA TIONS Playing a CD 1 Insert a disc into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws in the CD and star ts pla yback automatically . Current track T otal pla ying time of the inser.
13 ENGLISH Press ¢ briefly while playing a CD , to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt trac k. Each time you press the button consecutiv ely , the beginning of the next tr ack is located and pla yed bac k. Press 4 briefly while playing a CD , to go back to the beginning of the current trac k.
14 ENGLISH Selecting CD playback modes T o play back tracks repeatedly (Repeat Play) Y ou can play back the current trac k repeatedly . 1 Press MODE repeatedly until “ REPEA T ” appears. 2 Press SEL. Each time you press the button, CD repeat pla y mode tur ns on ( “ REPEA T ON ” ) and off ( “ REPEA T OFF ” ) alternately .
15 ENGLISH Prohibiting CD ejection Y ou can prohibit CD ejection and can “ lock ” a CD in the loading slot. While pressing CD/CH, press and hold CD 0 for more than 2 seconds. “ CD ” flashes on the displa y for a while , and the CD is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
16 ENGLISH What is MP3? MP3 is an abbre viation of Motion Picture Exper ts Group (or MPEG) A udio Lay er 3*. MP3 is simply a file format with a data compression ratio of 1:10 (128 Kbps**). That means, b y using MP3 format, one CD-R or CD-R W can contain 10 times as much data volume as a regular CD can.

20 ENGLISH T o go to a particular director y directly IMPORT ANT : T o directly select the directories using the number b utton(s), it is required that directories are assigned 2 digit numbers at the beginning of their directory names. (This can only be done during the recording of CD- Rs or CD-R Ws.
21 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) 1 Press MODE repeatedly until “ RANDOM ” appears. 2 Press SEL. Each time you press the button, random pla y mode changes as follo ws: Mode RND Plays at random Indicator RANDOM1 ON Li gh t s All files of the current director y , then the files of the next directory , and so on.
22 ENGLISH T APE OPERA TIONS Listening to a tape Y ou can play back type 1 (normal) tapes. 1 Insert a cassette into the cassette compartment. The unit turns on and tape play star ts automatically . When one side of the tape reaches its end during play , the other side of the tape automatically star ts pla ying.
23 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the cassette Press T APE 0 . T ape pla y stops and the cassette automatically ejects from the cassette compar tment. If you change the source, the tape pla y also stops (without ejecting the cassette this time). • Y ou can also eject the cassette by pressing T APE 0 with the unit turned off.

26 ENGLISH Selecting preset sound modes Y ou can select a preset sound adjustment suitable to the music genre . 1 Select “ EQ . ” 2 Select the sound mode. ENGLISH 29 OTHER MAIN FUNCTIONS About the demonstration mode (DEMO MODE) When shipped from the factory , “ DEMO ” is set to “ DEMO ON ” in this unit. The demonstration will star t automatically if no sound comes in f or 3 minutes. (See page 31.
30 ENGLISH Changing general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the settings for this unit by using the PSM (Preferred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure • There is a time limit in doing the f ollowing procedure. If the setting is canceled before you finish, star t from step 1 again.

34 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Y ou can connect two external components to this unit. Connect one to the auxiliar y (A UX) input jack on the control panel, and the other to the CD changer jack on the rear .
ENGLISH 35 CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommended that y ou use one of the CH-X series with your unit (except f or JVC MP3 compatible CD changer .) If you ha ve another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer f or connections.
36 ENGLISH T o go to a particular disc directly Press the number button corresponding to the disc number to star t its pla yback (while CD changer is playing). • T o select a disc number from 1 – 6: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a disc number from 7 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) for more than 1 second.

38 ENGLISH The function below is also provided to ensure the longer life of the cassette dec k. Ignition key-off release When you turn off the ignition ke y with a cassette in the compar tment, the unit automatically releases the tape from its head.
ENGLISH 39 Center holder Moisture condensation Moisture may condense on the lens inside the CD play er in the following cases: • After star ting the heater in the car . • If it becomes very humid inside the car . Should this occur , the CD player ma y malfunction.
40 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious. Check the f ollowing points before calling a service center . Symptoms • Sound is sometimes interrupted. • Sound cannot be heard from the speakers. • This unit does not work at all.
ENGLISH 41 Symptoms • Disc cannot be play ed back. • Files skip , or 00 ’ 00 ” appears and pla yback stops. • Noise is generated. • A longer readout time is required ( “ FILE CHECK ” keeps flashing on the display). • Files cannot be pla yed back as y ou have intended them to pla y .
42 ENGLISH Symptoms • A cassette tape cannot be inser ted. • Cassette tapes become hot. • T ape sound is at ver y lo w le vel and sound quality is degraded. •“ NO MAGAZINE ” appears on the display . •“ RESET 8 ” appears on the display .

4 PRECAUTIONS on power supply and speaker connections: • DO NOT connect the speaker leads of the power cord to the car battery; otherwise, the unit will be seriously damaged. • Connect the black lead (ground), yellow lead (to car battery , constant 12V), and red lead (to an accessor y terminal) correctly .
