ENGLISH 5 Remote controller 3 • Selects the preset stations while listening to the radio . Each time you press the b utton, the preset station number increases, and the selected station is tuned in. • Skips to the first file of the pre vious folder while listening to an MP3 disc.
ENGLISH 6 Preparing the remote controller Before using the remote controller: • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in between. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or ar tificial lighting).

ENGLISH 8 Canceling the display demonstration When shipped from the f actor y , display demonstration has been activ ated, and star ts automatically when no operations are done f or about 20 seconds. • It is recommended to cancel the display demonstration bef ore you use the unit f or the first time.
ENGLISH 9 Setting the clock 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y . (PSM: see page 24.) 2 Set the hour . 1 Select “CLOCK H” (hour) if not shown on the display . 2 Adjust the hour .
10 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio Y ou can use either automatic searching or manual searching to tune in to a par ticular station. Searching for a station automatically: Auto search 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
11 ENGLISH When an FM stereo broadcast is hard to receive: 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while listening to an FM stereo broadcast. 2 Press MO (monaural), while “MODE” is still flashing on the displa y , so that “MONO” appears on the displa y .
12 ENGLISH T o tune in to stations of lower frequencies T o tune in to stations of higher frequencies Storing stations in memor y Y ou can use one of the f ollowing two methods to store broadcasting stations in memory .
13 ENGLISH T uning in to a preset station Y ou can easily tune in to a preset station. Remember that you m ust store stations first. If you ha ve not stored them yet, see “Stor ing stations in memory” on pages 12 and 13. 1 Select the band (FM1 – 3, AM).
14 ENGLISH Refer “MP3 OPERA TIONS” on pages 18 to 21 f or operating MP3 discs. Playing a CD Insert a CD into the loading slot. The unit turns on, draws the CD and star ts playbac k automatically . 16 ENGLISH T o play back tracks repeatedly (T rack Repeat Play) Y ou can play bac k the current track repeatedly . 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying a CD . 2 Press RPT (repeat), while “MODE” is still flashing on the displa y , so that “TRK RPT” appears on the displa y .
17 ENGLISH Prohibiting disc ejection Y ou can prohibit disc ejection and can lock a disc in the loading slot. While pressing CD , press and hold 0 fo r more than 2 seconds. “EJECT” flashes on the display for about 5 seconds , and the disc is lock ed and cannot be ejected.
18 ENGLISH Refer also to “CD OPERA TIONS” on pages 14 to 17. Playing an MP3 disc Insert an MP3 disc into the loading slot. Note on One-T ouch operation: When a disc is alr eady in the loading slot, pr essing CD turns on the unit and starts playback automatically .
19 ENGLISH T o skip 10 files* forwards to the last file T o skip 10 files* backwards to the first file T o change the display information While pla ying back an MP3 file , you can change the MP3 disc inf or mation sho wn on the display . Press DISP (display) repeatedly .
20 ENGLISH Press the number button corresponding to the folder n umber to star t pla ying the first file in the selected f older . • T o select a folder number from 01 – 06: Press 1 (7) – 6 (12) briefly . • T o select a folder number from 07 – 12: Press and hold 1 (7) – 6 (12) f or more than one second.
21 ENGLISH Selecting MP3 playback modes T o play back files at random (Folder Random/Disc Random Play) Y ou can play bac k all files of the current folder or all files on the MP3 disc at random. 1 Press MODE to enter the functions mode while pla ying an MP3 disc.

23 ENGLISH Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the sound characteristics to your preference . 1 Select the item you want to adjust. Each time you press the button, the adjustab le items change as f ollows: Indication T o do: Range BAS * 1 Adjust the bass.
24 ENGLISH Changing the general settings (PSM) Y ou can change the items listed in the table below by using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. Basic Procedure 1 Press and hold SEL (select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .
25 ENGLISH T o select the dimmer mode—DIMMER Y ou can dim the display at night (according to your pref erence). When shipped from the f actor y , dimmer is deactivated.
26 ENGLISH Detaching the control panel Y ou can detach the control panel when leaving the car . When detaching or attaching the control panel, be careful not to damage the connectors on the back of the control panel and on the panel holder . Detaching the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to tur n off the po wer.
27 ENGLISH ADDITIONAL INFORMA TION Playing a CD-R or CD-RW • Use only “finaliz ed” CD-Rs or CD-RWs . • This unit can play bac k only the files of the same type which is first detected if a disc includes both audio CD (CD-D A) files and MP3 files.
28 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not alw ays serious . Check the follo wing points before calling a service center . Remedies Adjust it to the optimum le vel. Check the cords and connections. While holding SEL (select), press (standby/on attenuator) f or more than 2 seconds to reset the unit.
29 ENGLISH Remedies Change the disc. Add the e xtension code <.mp3> to their file names. Change the disc. (Record MP3 files using a compliant application.) Skip to another file or change the disc. (Do not add the extension code <.mp3> to non- MP3 files .
30 ENGLISH MAINTENANCE How to clean the connectors F requent detachment will deter iorate the connectors. T o minimize this possibility , per iodically wipe the connectors with a cotton sw ab or cloth moistened with alcohol, being careful not to damage the connectors.
