4 ENGLISH BASIC OPERA TIONS Note: When you use this unit for the first time , set the built-in c lock corr ectly . (See pa ge 19.) 1 3 2 /I A TT / 1 T ur n on the po wer . “HELLO” appears on the displa y . 2 Select the source. T o operate the tuner , see pages 5 – 9.
5 ENGLISH RADIO OPERA TIONS Listening to the radio 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM). Y ou can select an y one of FM1, FM2, and FM3 to listen to an FM station. 2 Star t searching a station. While searching stations, "SEEK" appears on the display .
6 ENGLISH 1 Select the FM band number (FM1, FM2 or FM3) you want to store FM stations into. 2 Press and hold both buttons for more than 2 seconds. Local FM stations with the strongest signals are searched and stored automatically in the band number y ou hav e selected (FM1, FM2 or FM3).
7 ENGLISH Manual preset Y ou can preset up to 6 stations in each band (FM1, FM2, FM3 and AM) manually . EXAMPLE: Storing an FM station of 88.3 MHz into the preset channel n umber 1 of the FM1 band 3 2 1 1 Select the FM1 band. 2 T une into a station of 88.
8 ENGLISH T uning into a preset station Y ou can easily tune into a preset station. Remember that y ou must store stations first. If you have not stored them y et, see pages 6 and 7. 1 Select the band (FM1, FM2, FM3 or AM) y ou want. 2 Select the number (1 – 6) f or the preset station y ou want.
9 ENGLISH Scanning broadcast stations When y ou press SCAN while listening to the radio, station scanning starts. Each time a broadcast is tuned in, scanning stops for about 5 seconds (SCAN flashes on the displa y), and you can chec k what program is now being broadcasted.
10 ENGLISH 1 Open the control panel. 2 1. Inser t a cassette into the cassette compar tment. The unit tur ns on and tape pla y star ts automatically . 2. Close the control panel by hand. • When one side of the tape reaches its end during pla y , the other side of the tape automatically star ts playing.
11 ENGLISH T o stop play and eject the cassette Press 0 . T ape play stops , the control panel opens , then the cassette automatically ejects from the cassette compar tment. If you change the source to FM, AM or CD changer , the tape pla y also stops (without ejecting the cassette this time).
12 ENGLISH Finding the beginning of a tune Multi Music Scan allows you to automatically start pla yback from the beginning of a specified tune. Y ou can specify up to 9 tunes ahead of or bef ore the current tune. ¢ 4 Specify where (ho w many tunes ahead of or bef ore the current tune) the tune you w ant is located.
13 ENGLISH ON OFF Lights up when Repeat Pla y is tur ned on. RPT Other con venient ta pe functions Skipping the blank por tions on the tape Y ou can skip blank por tions between the tunes. (Blank Skip) When this function is on, the unit skips blank portions of 15 seconds or more, fast-f orwards to the next tunes, then starts playing it.
14 ENGLISH SOUND ADJUSTMENTS Adjusting the sound Y ou can adjust the treble/bass sound and the speak er balance. Equalization pattern indicator 1 Select the item you w ant to adjust. Indication T o do: Range BAS Adjust the bass –06 (min.) — +06 (max.
ENGLISH 15 LOUD T ur ning on/off the loudness function The human ear is less sensitive to low and high frequencies at low v olumes. The loudness function can boost these frequencies to produce well-balanced sound at low volume le vel. 1 T urn on or off the loudness function.
16 ENGLISH SCM Using the Sound Contr ol Memor y Y ou can select and store a preset sound adjustment suitable to each playbac k source . ( Advanced SCM ) Selecting and storing the sound modes Once y ou select a sound mode , it is stored in memory , and will be recalled every time you select the same source.
ENGLISH 17 Recalling the sound modes Select the source while the “Link” indicator is lit on the displa y . The “Link” indicator starts flashing, and the sound mode stored in memory for the selected source is recalled. Notes: • Y ou can adjust each sound mode to your pr efer ence, and stor e it in memory .
18 ENGLISH 1 Call up the sound mode you w ant to adjust. See page 16 for details . 2 T o adjust the bass or treble sound le v el Select “BAS” or “TRE. ” T o turn on or off the loudness function See page 15 for details . 3 Adjust the bass or treble le v el.
19 ENGLISH T o check the current clock time (changing the display mode) Press DISP repeatedly . Each time you press the button, the displa y mode changes as follows: • If the unit is not in use when y ou press DISP , the power tur ns on, the clock time is shown f or 5 seconds , then the power turns off.
20 ENGLISH Y ou can change the items listed on the ne xt page b y using the PSM (Pref erred Setting Mode) control. Basic Pr ocedur e Changing the general settings (PSM) 1 Press and hold SEL (Select) f or more than 2 seconds so that one of the PSM items appears on the displa y .

22 ENGLISH Selecting the dimmer mode When you turn on the car head lights, the displa y automatically dims (Auto Dimmer). When shipped from the f actor y , Auto Dimmer mode is activ ated. • A UT O: Activ ates Auto Dimmer . • ON: Alwa ys dims the display .
23 ENGLISH How to detach the control panel Before detaching the control panel, be sure to tur n off the po wer . 1 Unlock the control panel. 2 Pull the control panel out of the unit.
24 ENGLISH REMOTE OPERA TIONS Installing the batteries Bef ore using the remote controller : • Aim the remote controller directly at the remote sensor on the main unit. Make sure there is no obstacle in betw een. • Do not e xpose the remote sensor to strong light (direct sunlight or artificial lighting).
25 ENGLISH Select the CD automatic changer . Pla yback starts from the first track of the first disc. All tr acks of all discs are play ed back. CD CHANGER OPERA TIONS We recommend that you use one of the CH-X series with your unit. If you hav e another CD automatic changer , consult your JVC car audio dealer for connections .
26 ENGLISH T o fast-for ward or reverse the track Press and hold ¢ , while pla ying a CD , to f ast-forw ard the track. Press and hold 4 , while pla ying a CD , to re verse the trac k. T o go to the next tracks or the previous tracks Press ¢ br iefly, while pla ying a CD, to go ahead to the beginning of the ne xt track.
27 ENGLISH T o play back tracks at random (Random Play) Each time you press MO RND (Dolb y NR/Monaur al/Random) while playing a CD , CD random play mode changes as f ollows: Mode RND Indicator Plays at random RND1 Lights All trac ks of the current disc , then the tr acks of the next disc , and so on.
28 ENGLISH EXTERNAL COMPONENT OPERA TIONS Y ou can connect the external component to the CD changer jack on the rear using the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 (not supplied). Preparations: • F or connecting the Line Input Adaptor KS-U57 and the e xternal component, refer to the Installation/ Connection Man ual (se parate v olume).
29 ENGLISH The function below is also provided to ensure the longer life of this unit. Ignition key-off Release/Ignition key-on play • When you turn off the ignition key with a cassette in the compartment, the unit automatically releases the tape from its head.
30 ENGLISH TROUBLESHOOTING What appears to be trouble is not always serious. Check the following points before calling a service center. Symptoms • A cassette tape cannot be inserted. • Cassette tapes become hot. • T ape sound is at very lo w level and sound quality is degraded.
