1 . INTRODUCTION Th e GY-DV500 configuration i s a s shown below . CAUTION : • The front base mount may b e locked while the pi n of the tripod base i s not inserted into th e hol e o n th e rea r bas e moun t of the unit. Therefore, after mounting, make sure that these parts are engaged properly.
1 . INTRODUCTION • When the uni t i s no t i n use , b e sure to set the POWER switch • The camera ma y b e unstable i n the period immediately after to OFF i n order to reduce power consumption, the power i s turned on, but this i s no t a malfunction.
1 . INTRODUCTION • Use JVC's Videocassette tapes marked with MiniDV for this unit. Please us e DVM60 or DVM30 type videocassettes. • Videocassettes cannot b e used upside down • Avoid storing a Videocassette with unevenly wound tape, as this may damage the tape.
1 . INTRODUCTION Smear and Blooming Du e t o the physical structure of a CCD i t i s possible to induce vertical streaking (calle d "smear") when shooting a n extremely brigh t ligh t source. Another effect i s the expansion o f ligh t around a bright ligh t or object (called "blooming").

2 . CONTROLS, INDICATORS AND CONNECTORS Cassette cover Pressing the EJECT switch o n top o f the section opens this cover so that a videocassette can be inserted or removed fro m the unit. The cover can be locked automatically b y pushing and closing it .

I f the switch i s moved while the power i s off , the cassette cover opens but i t i s not possible to inser t or eject the cassette.

6 . SETTING AND ADJUSTMENTS BEFORE SHOOTING I t i s only necessary to perform this when the lens is attached fo r the firs t time or when focusin g i s not correc t i n both the telephoto and wide-angle positions. Adjust the viewfinder fo r sharpness first.

Once recording ha s started, th e BACK TALLY lam p o n th e rea r section o f the unit and the tally lamp o n the viewfinder light red, and the REC indication i n the viewfinder lights green.
7 . SHOOTING OPERATION Viewfinder VCR operation status displa y STBY or SAVE When a recordable videocassette is loaded, the GY-DV500 enters the record-pause mode. However, the record-pause operation condition differs dependin g on the setting o f the VTR switch .

9 . TIME COD E OPERATION Th e GY-DV500 also incorporates a time code reader Therefore, when the unit enters record mode from record-pause mode , i t can read the time code data recorded on the tape and record time codes i n continuation of the existing data.

10 . S.S.F . (Supe r Scen e Finder ) FUNCTIO N During recording, the S.S.F . function records the time code data a t the point of time of a desired recorded scene i n the unit's memory. Using the S.S.F . data stored i n memory during after-processing of the recorded image allows efficient us e of the tape.

13 . FEATURES OF THE CAMERA SECTION Confirming the colour tone area adjusted with the Skin Detai l function When the ZEBRA switch o n the front section i s pressed to the "SKIN AREA " side, the colour tone areas adjusted with Skin Detai l are displayed i n the viewfinder.
14.OTHERS Warnings concerning problems with the unit are provide i n the form of indicators, displa y indications an d monitor tones. The warnings are of the following two types.
14.OTHERS Alarm Indications (Cont'd) Depending on the alarm conditions, the warning indicators i n the LCD display , the WARNING indicator, the TALLY lamp , alarm tones and the viewfinder appea r as shown i n the following table. The WARNING indicator normally light s green or orange to indicate that operation i s possible .

14 . OTHERS I n the case of troubles occurring during operation of the GY-DV500, i t performs a self-test to identify the cause and displays the resul t i n the form of a n error code. The error code consists of the "main code" which indicates it s contents an d the "sub-code" which indicates the details.
