If a slot is not occupie d by a DPC, a DPC blank panel must be install ed t o shield the empty slot and t o allo w cooling air to cir cula te properl y through the r outer . DPCs are hot-r emovabl e and hot-insertabl e, a s described in “MX480 Fiel d-Repl ace able Units (FRUs)” on pa ge 169 .
DPC Component s Each DPC c onsists of the foll owing c omponents: • DPC co ver , which functions as a gr ound plane and a stiff ener . • Fabric int erfac es. • T wo Gigabit Etherne t interf aces that allo w contr ol informa tion, rout e inf ormation, and sta tistics to be sent bet ween the R outing Engine and the CPU on the DPCs.
In the s yntax of an int erfac e name, a h yphen ( - ) separa tes the media type from the DP C number (repr esented as an FP C in the CLI). The DPC slot number corre sponds t o the first number in the interf ace . The second number in the int erfac e corre sponds to the logic al PIC number .
