3 W elcome Thank you f or purchasing this 1-port USB Pr int Server that allows any network ed computer to share a USB printer. It complies with USB 1.1 specifications, and provides users with an auto-sensing 10/100Base-T por t. It works with either 10BaseT or 100BaseT networks.

8 Introduction IOGEAR’ s palm-sized USB Multi-Function Print Server allows any netw orked computer to share a USB Multi-Function Printer (MFP). This multi-function server goes a step bey ond ordinary pr int servers by allowing multiple network users to Print, Scan, and F ax using the same Multi-Function Printer .
9 Hard ware Setup Hardware Setup 1) Plug the included power adapter into the print server and a power outlet near the m ultifunction printer. 2) Plug the network por t of the print ser ver into a netw ork switch or av ailable LAN port on a router using standard Ethernet patch cable.
10 Software Installation Software Installation (repeat on each networked computer) 1) Inser t the Setup CD into your computer . 2) Click the Installation b utton on the window that opens.
11 Software Installation 3) Choose a language to use for installation and clic k OK..
12 Software Installation 4) Click Next at the first screen of the setup wizard..
13 Software Installation 5) Choose a folder to install the print server software or just clic k Next..
14 Software Installation 6) Choose a folder in the start menu to launch the software from or just click Ne xt..
15 Software Installation 7) On Windows XP , a windo w may come up w arning you that this software has not been tested by Microsoft and certified by their Windows Logo program.
16 Software Installation 8) When the installation is complete, click OK..
17 Software Installation 9) If you would lik e the print ser ver softw are to run automatically when star ting your computer (recom mended), leav e the box chec ked and clic k Finish.
18 Software Installation On Windows XP systems, the F ound New Hardw are wizard may pop up during installation. Y ou will need to do the follo wing to complete the driver installation: 1) If asked if Windows can connect to the internet to search for softw are, clic k the No, not this time option and then click Next.
19 Software Installation 2) When asked how the wizard should install softw are, lea ve Install the software automatically selected and click Next..
20 Software Installation 3) If you see another warning that the software has not been Windows Logo certified by Microsoft, click Continue Anywa y ..
21 Software Installation 4) Click Finish to complete the F ound New Hardw are wizard..
22 Software Configuration Software Configuration (repeat on each networked computer) 1) Launch the IOGear MFP Utility program from the start menu or icon on the desktop.
23 Software Configuration 2) If you ha ve Windows XP and the Windo ws Firewall is enab led you will see this windo w pop up when the Utility is first launched. Make sure y ou click the Unb lock button to allo w communication with the print ser ver .
24 Software Configuration 3) The Utility will search your network f or the print ser ver and displa y it in the window . If no print ser ver is found please mak e sure any third party firewalls such as Norton Inter net Security , McAfee P ersonal Firew all, or ZoneAlarm have been disabled or b ypassed and click the Sear ch button to try again.
25 Software Configuration 4) If your printer software has already been installed, skip ahead to step 7. Otherwise, once the print server has been found, close the windo w with the X button in the top right corner ( NOT the one labeled Exit ) to hide the Utility for no w .
26 Software Configuration 5) Install the software that came with your printer . When the drivers f or the printer hav e finished installing OR the software asks you to plug in the printer using a USB cab le, you are ready to “connect” the device .
27 Software Configuration 6) Y ou should see a small USB icon like this in the tra y in the lower right corner of your screen. Double-clic k on the icon to open the Utility window again.
28 Software Configuration 7) Click the plus in front of the print server name to show the name of the attached printer . Then select the printer name and click the Connect button in the Utility .
29 Software Configuration 8) The printer should be detected as if it was plugged directly into the computer . Finish any remaining setup needed by the printer software.
30 Software Configuration 9) If you would lik e the connection to this printer to be restored automatically when the Utility software launches, you will need to add the de vice to y our fa vorites list. Clic k the plus in front of Connected devices and right-click the name of the printer .
31 Software Configuration 10) Click OK to confirm that the printer is in your fa vorites list..
32 Software Configuration 11) Once you hav e connected to the print server you can close the Utility window . Be sure to use the close box with an X in the top right corner so that the Utility continues to run in the background. The large button labeled Exit will shut down the Utility and disconnect y our computer from the printer .
33 W eb Administration Web Administration (ad vanced options) Normally you will not need to change the name or IP address used by the print server . How ev er , if you hav e multiple print servers or want to ov erride these default settings f or another reason, you ma y do so using the Web Administration tool.
34 W eb Administration Changing the print server name The default name ma y not be conv enient if you ha ve m ultiple print ser vers . If you w ould like to change the print ser ver’ s name to something more meaningful such as “F ront Office” or “Accounting Scanner” you can do so with the W eb Admin tool.
35 W eb Administration Protecting the Admin tool with a passw ord If you would lik e to prev ent unauthorized access to the Admin tool, you can estab lish a pass word from the same System tab of the Setup section shown abov e. T ype in your passw ord twice to confirm it, then click Sa ve & Restart.
36 W eb Administration Changing the IP address Normally the ser ver requests an IP address automatically from y our router or other DHCP server on the network. If you w ould prefer to specify an address , you can do so by clic king the Setup button, then on the TCP/IP tab .
37 W eb Administration Restoring factory default settings If you would lik e to restore all settings on the print ser ver to their original configuration and can still access the Web Admin tool, simply clic k on the Misc button and mak e sure the Factory Default tab is selected.
38 W eb Administration Upgrading the firmware In some cases, a firmware upgrade ma y be necessary to get the full functionality of your MFP device , especially if you ha ve a brand ne w model. If y ou are experiencing any compatibility issues please check the Support section of the IOGEAR website at http://www.
39 W eb Administration Click the Br owse button and y ou will be asked to locate the firmware upgrade file y ou just downloaded. Select it and click Open.
40 W eb Administration Y ou will see the location you selected in the box ne xt to the Br owse button. Click the button at the bottom labeled Firmware Upgrade to load the new firmware onto the server .
