Y our new INFINITI has been designed to have minimum maintenance requirements with long service intervals to save you both time and money. However , some day-to- day and regular maintenance is essential to maintain your INFINITI ’ s fine mechanical condition, as well as its emission and engine performance.
8-4 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself During the normal day-to-day operation of the vehicle, general maintenance should be performed regularly as prescribed in this section. If you detect any unusual sounds, vibrations or smell, be sure to chec k for the cause or have an INFINITI retailer do it promptly.
Accelerator pedal: Chec k the pedal for smooth operation and make sure the pedal does not catch or require uneven effort. Keep the floor mat away from the pedal. Automatic transmission P (Park) mechan- ism: On a fairly steep hill, c heck that your vehicle is held securely with the selector lever in the P (Park) position without applying any brakes.
8-6 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself dripping from the air conditioner after use is normal. If you should notice any leaks or if gasoline fumes are evident, c heck for the cause and have it corrected immediately . Power steering fluid level* and lines: Check the level when the fluid is cold, with the engine off.
. The fuel filter or fuel lines should be serviced by an INFINITI retailer because the fuel lines are under high pressure even when the engine is off. CAUTION . Do not work under the hood while the engine is hot. T urn the engine off and wait until it cools down.

8-10 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself SDI2043 CHECKING ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL Check the coolant level in the reservoir when the engine is cold. If the coolant level is below MIN * 2 , open the reservoir tank cap and add coolant up to the MAX * 1 level. If the reservoir tank is empty, chec k the coolant level in the radiator when the engine is cold.
SDI2505 VQ25HR engine SDI2045 VQ37VHR engine CHECKING ENGINE OIL LEVEL 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and apply the parking brake. 2. Run the engine until it reaches operat- ing temperature. 3. Turn off the engine. Wait more than 15 minutes for the oil to drain back into the oil pan.
8-12 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself CAUTION Make sure the correct lifting and support points are used to avoid vehicle damage. SDI2335 Two-wheel drive (2WD) models (VQ25HR/ VQ37VHR engine) Engine oil and filter 1. Place a large drain pan under the drain plug.
CAUTION Be sure to remove any old rubber gasket remaining on the mounting surface of the engine. Failure to do so could lead to engine damage. 6. Coat the gasket on the new filter with clean engine oil. 7. Screw in the oil filter clockwise until a slight resistance is felt, then tighten additionally more than 2/3 turn.
8-14 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself When chec king or replacement is required, we recommend an INFINITI retailer for servicing. CAUTION . Use only Genuine NISSAN Matic S A TF .

8-16 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself SDI2027 WARNING Antifreeze is poisonous and should be stored carefully in marked containers out of the reach of c hildren. Fill the window washer fluid reservoir periodically . Add window washer fluid when the low window washer fluid warning light comes on.
. Keep the battery surface clean and dry . Clean the battery with a solution of baking soda and water. . Make certain the terminal co nnections are clean and securely tightened. . If the vehicle is not to be used for 30 days or longer, disconnect the negative ( − ) battery terminal cable to prevent discharging it.
8-18 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself DI0137MA Check the fluid level in eac h cell (Remove the battery cover if it is necessary). It should be between the UPPER LEVEL * 1 and LOWER LEVEL * 2 lines. If it is necessary to add fluid, add only distilled water to bring the level to the indicator in each filler opening.
CAUTION . Do not ground acc essories directly to the battery terminal. Doing so will bypass the variable voltage control system and the vehicle battery may not charge completely . . Use electrical accessories with the en- gine running to avoid discharging the vehicle battery.
8-20 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself ess. If the belt is in poor condition or loose, have it replaced or adjusted by an INFINITI retailer. 2. Have the belts chec ked regularly for condition and tension in accordance with the maintenance sc hedule in your “ INFINITI Service and Maintenance Guide ” .

8-42 Maintenanc e and do-it-yourself . The original tires have built-in tread wear indicators. When wear indicators are visible, the tire(s) should be replaced. . Tires degrade with age and use. Have tires, including the spare, over 6 years old chec ked by a qualified tec hnician, because some tire damage may not be obvious.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) models CAUTION . Always use tires of the same type, size, brand, construction (bias, bias-belted or radial), and tread pattern on all four wheels.
