iv Notes.
Abou t the McBa sic The McBasic series consists of low-cost, IEEE 8 02.3 singl e-conversion, 1U high, standalone media conve rters. The McBasic TP/FO con verts 10Base-T twisted pair to 10Base-FL multi-mo de or single-m ode fi ber and includes one RJ- 45 connector and one pai r of S T o r SC connect ors.
BNC Port Termina tion McBasi c TP/BNC features a 2-position switch next to the BNC connector that a llows a thin coax ial segment to be terminated at th e port w ithout a n additional ‘ T’ connector and termin ator. If McBasic TP/B NC is attached to a mid-p oint of a th in Et her n et segment, attach a ‘T’ connect or to th e BNC port.
About Link Integrity During normal operation, link integrity pu lses are transmitted by all point-to-point Ethernet devices. When an IM C Networks media converter rece ives valid link pulse s, it knows that the device to which it is co nnec ted is up and sending pulses, an d that the copp er or fiber c able coming f rom that device is intact.
Pulsing Fiber Alert Pulsing FiberAle rt minimizes t he problems as sociated with the l oss of one strand of fiber. If a strand is unavaila ble, the IMC Netwo rks device at the receiver end notes the loss of link. The device will stop transmitting data and start sending link pulses.
LED Operation Each McBasic fe atures diagnostic LE Ds. The following illustrations show the location of the LED s, an d othe r fe atu re s, on McBasic TP /FO and McBas ic TP/BNC. The LED fun ctio ns f or McBa sic TP/FO are as fol lows: • TP LINK Glows green if li nk is established on the TX port.
The LED fun ctio ns for M cBasic TP/ BNC are as f ollow s: • TP RCV Flickers amber when twisted p air port is receiv ing data . • TP LNK Glows green when a twisted pair link is established. • BNC COL Flickers re d in normal o peration indicat ing norm al collisions are bein g detecte d on the BNC segment.
Installat ion Tro ubles hoot ing • During installation, first test your fiber and t wisted pair c onnections with all troubleshooting features disabled. Then enable these features, if desired, just before final inst allation. This wil l reduce the in terference fr om feature s upon testing .
