Setting up the Keyboard Before You Begin Before you install the Stowaway keyb oard software for Symbian Series 60 mobile devices: ¾ Disable or uninstall any other key b oa rd applications that you have previously installed on your mobile device. (Refer t o the User’s Guide included with your mobile device for instruction on how to do this.
Configuring the Keyboard to your Device NOTE: The Bluetooth connection between the mobile device and keyboard must be set up through the Stowaway keyboard driver. 1. The main screen of the Stowaway Keyboard application is the Status screen. The Status window gives you the keyboard connection status, battery and firmware information.
3. After you select Enable BT , the Stowaway keyboard application will enable the Bluetooth system software ( Bluetooth Stack ) on your mobile device, and will begin scanning for the keyboard. 4. You will be prompted for a Passkey . You may see this Bluetooth Passkey dialog box, but this may vary by device.
6. If the Passkey is entered successfully on both devices, the message BT Keyboard Connected will appear on the Status tab . If the keyboard does not show up as connected: a. Press the <Ctrl> < Left Fn > < Right F n > keys together on the keyboard again.
OTHER FEATURES 1. If several Stowaway keyboards happen to be nearby and in Discoverable mode, the scan will display all of these devices in a list. Compare the keyboard ID (Bluetooth address) printed on the back of the keyboard with the IDs in the list and select the desired keyboard to connect to.
4. The Keys tab allows you to remap the default application launch Hot keys available in the driver < Left Fn > + <letter> (row two keys), as well as assign applications or files to open with the <Alt> + < Left Fn > + <number> (row one 1-0 keys).
Reconnecting the Stowaway keyboard The above steps establish the Blueto oth wireless connection and bonding between the mobile device and the ke yboard for the firs t time. Keyboard character input should be enabled as long as the connection is maintained.
Even when disconnected, the mobile device and the keyboard remain bonded. The keyboard will only reconnec t to the bonded mobile device and the mobile device will only listen to th e bonded keyboard. To break the bond press <Ctrl> < Left Fn > < Right Fn > for approximately 1 second or until the green LED flashes quickly.
Automatic Reconnection from Waiting Mode Some mobile devices have more restrict ive Bluetooth settings than others, in terms of the type of operating mode, or the type of paired device the software will allow reconnection with fr om waiting mode.
Customizing Your Keyboard Keyboard Control Panel NOTE: The Options button and Options tab within the Bluetooth keyboard application have somewhat di fferent functionality.
Disabling the Stowaway keyboard When the Stowaway keyboard is no longer needed, you may disable the keyboard driver by pressing the Options button . The BT Disabled message will then be displayed on the Status page. NOTE: Disabling the Bluetooth keyboard will not automatically turn off the Bluetooth radio.
Keyboard Status Light When the keyboard is open there is a light above the <T> key that indicates the status of the keyboard. ¾ When the keyboard status light flashes a fast green light (approx. once per second) it is in Discoverable mode . This is the state that allows it to be detected by the mobile device.
Using the Stowaway keyboard Character Input • Commands joined by a dash “ – ” mean that the key combination must be pressed in order and with all keys held down at the same time. • Commands joined by a plus “ + ” mean that the key following the “ + ” must be pressed after the initial key combination is pressed and released.
Launching and Navigating Applications Opening various applications can be pe rformed with the keyboard using the shortcuts provided in this table. The us er can also map favorite applications to assigned Hot Keys within the keyboard driver application.
International and Extended Character Set International characters are produced by pressing the Alt key with the corresponding keys in the table below. Both upper and lower case characters are supported when shift or Caps Lock.
Frequently Asked Questions Q: My keyboard and handheld ar e in-range and powered on, why won’t they reconnect after a key press? A: The current Bluetooth settings on yo ur mobile device may preclude an automatic reconnection.
