Over vie w Introduction The TN5 250 T erminal Emulation User’ s Guide , e xplains how to conf igure and use the TN52 50 emulat ion on your terminal. This emulat ion is an optio n for terminals.
vi Overv iew The TN5250 Connection T o oper ate TN525 0 emulation, y ou must connect to an AS/ 400 serv er operating with OS/4 00 V ersion 1, release level 3.0 or higher . Addi tionally , you must be operating the emulator acro ss a TCP/IP network, using an IBM 82 09 or equi valent TCP/IP at tachment.

Getting Sta rted 1-5 Emulator -Opened Sessions If you hav e specified an IP address in your conn ectio n definition, then once connected the Pass Th rough Screen displays (s ee Fig ure 1-2 ). Figure 1-2 P ass Through Screen An initial session has been opened by the emulator .

2 The Menu System The TN5250 menu syst em is used to: ◆ Contr ol se ssions ◆ In voke utility functions ◆ Map ke yboards Additionally , the TN5250 menu system inclu des a help section. The help section is discussed in Help Menu at the end of this c hapter , and pr esents additional informati on about emu lator menus and functi ons.

Menu functions are selected by using a combination o f control k eys and alph anumeric ke ys (ke y sequences).

2-10 Chapter 2 Screen Attr ib utes Menu The terminal emulator will di splay IBM TN5250-style screen attributes, depending on th e local terminal type setting and application that you are using. The Screen Attributes men u display s these TN5250-st yle attrib utes.

The Menu System 2-13 Edit K eys Menu Keys can be ed ited or c hange d by using the F2 key , entered in the Keyboar d Mapping menu. Posi tion the cursor next to the key you want to edit, in any of the k ey mapp ing me nus, and pr ess F2 . This key inv okes the Edit Keys menu.

Terminal K eyboard 3-3 Delete Deletes a character where the cursor is positio ned. Double Speed Left Moves cursor four positions to the left. Double Speed Right Moves cursor four positions to the right . Dup Duplicates the last fi eld. Enter Executes commands, o r accepts data and/or selected options currently on the screen.

Terminal K eyboard 3-9 T ypeAhead Buffering Applications such as data processing and word processing programs normally accept ke ystrokes as you enter information. Ho we ver , these applications can lock yo ur k eyb oard when data i s being process ed.
