6 ASSEMBL Y / PRE-OPERA TION T O ASSEMBLE GRASS CA TCH ER 1. Put gr ass catcher frame into grass bag with rigid par t of bag on the bottom. Make sure the fr ame handle is outside of the bag top . 2. Slip vin yl bindings ov er frame. NO TE : If vin yl bindings are too stiff, hold them in warm water f or a f ew minutes .

8 DRIVE CONTROL ADJUSTMENT Ov er time, the drive control system ma y become “loose”, resulting in decreased speed. There is a tur nb uckle on the drive control housing to increase tension on the drive cab le. Pro ceed as f ollows: 1. T ur n unit off and disconnect spark plug wire from spark plug.
9 T O CONVERT MO WER Y our lawn mow er was shipped ready to be used as a mulcher . T o conv er t to bagging or discharging: REAR BA GGING • Open rear door and remo ve mulcher plug. Store mulcher plug in a saf e place. • Y ou can now install the gr ass catcher or optional clipping defl ector .
10 BEFORE ST AR TING ENGINE ADD OIL Y our lawnmow er is shipped without oil in the engine. F or type and grade of oil to use, see “EN GINE” in the Maintenance section of this manual. CA UTION: DO NO T ov erfi ll engine with oil, or it will smoke hea vily from the muffl er on star tup .

15 CLEANING IMPORT ANT : F or best perf or mance, keep mo wer housing free of b uilt-grass and trash. Clean the underside of your mow er after each use. CA UTION: Disconnect spar k plug wire from spark plug and place wire where it cannot come in contact with plug.
16 10. Remo ve drive belt from engine pulle y; discard old belt. T O REPLA CE DRIVE BEL T 1. Place ne w dr iv e belt on engine pulley . 2. Route the other end of the ne w dr iv e belt through hole in housing. 3. Return mower to upright position. 4. Install ne w dr iv e belt into idler ar m assembly , then around the dr iv e pulley .
17 ST ORA GE Immediately prepare your la wn mow er for stor age at the end of the season or if the unit will not be used f or 30 days or more . LA WN MO WER When lawn mo wer is to be stored f or a period of time, clean it thor oughly , remov e all dir t, grease , leav es, etc.
