8 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • The chain brak e (A) can either be activated man ually (by your left hand) or automatically b y the iner tia release mechanism. • The brak e is applied when the front hand guard (B) is pushed f orwards .
English – 9 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Will m y hand alwa ys activate the chain brake during a kickbac k? No . It takes a certain force to mov e the hand guard forward. If your hand only lightly touches the front guard or slips o v er it, the f orce ma y not be enough to trigger the chain brake .
10 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting hardwoods (most broadleaf trees) creates more vibration than cutting softwoods (most conif ers). Cutting with cutting equipment that is blunt or f aulty (wrong type or badly shar pened) will increase the vibration le vel.

12 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS When you sharpen a cutting tooth there are four important f actors to remember . 1 Filing angle 2 Cutting angle 3 File position 4 Round file diameter It is very difficult to shar pen a chain correctly without the right equipment.
English – 13 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS • Place the depth gauge tool ov er the chain. Detailed inf ormation regarding the use of the depth gauge tool, will be f ound on the package f or the depth gauge tool. Use the flat file to file off the tip of the depth gauge that protrudes through the depth gauge tool.
14 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Checking c hain lubrication • Check the chain lubrication each time you refuel. See instructions under the heading Lubr icating the bar tip sprock et. Aim the tip of the bar at a light coloured surf ace about 20 cm (8 inches) aw a y .
English – 15 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Bar Check regularly: • Whether there are burrs on the edges of the bar . Remov e these with a file if necessar y . • Whether the groov e in the bar has become badly wor n. Replace the bar if necessar y .
16 – English ASSEMBL Y Fitting the bar and c hain Check that the chain br ake is in disengaged position b y moving the front hand guard to wards the front handle . Remov e the bar nuts and remove the clutch co v er (chain brak e). T ake off the transportation r ing (A).
English – 17 FUEL HANDLING Fuel Note! The machine is equipped with a two-stroke engine and must alwa ys been run using a mixture of gasoline and two- stroke engine oil. It is impor tant to accurately measure the amount of oil to be mix ed to ensure that the correct mixture is obtained.
18 – English FUEL HANDLING Fueling Clean the area around the fuel cap . Clean the fuel and chain oil tanks regularly . The fuel filter must be replaced at least once a year . Contamination in the tanks causes malfunction. Make sure the fuel is w ell mix ed by shaking the container bef ore refuelling.
English – 19 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Starting and stopping Cold engine Starting: The chain brak e should be activ ated when star ting the chain saw . Activate the chain brak e by pushing the front hand guard f orwards . Ignition: Set the stop s witch to the star t position.
20 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Note! Pull the front hand guard to wards the front handle. The chain brak e is now disengaged. Y our saw is ready f or use. • Ne ver start a chain saw unless the bar , chain and clutch cov er are fitted correctly .
English – 21 W ORKING TECHNIQUES Bef ore use: 1 Check that the chain br ake w orks correctly and is not damaged. 2 Check that the rear right hand guard is not damaged. 3 Check that the throttle loc k wor ks correctly and is not damaged. 4 Check that the stop s witch works correctly and is not damaged.
22 – English W ORKING TECHNIQUES 5 T ake great care when cutting a tree that is under tension. A tree that is under tension ma y spring back to its normal position bef ore or after being cut. If you position y ourself incorrectly or make the cut in the wrong place the tree ma y hit you or the machine and cause y ou to lose control.
English – 23 W ORKING TECHNIQUES 7 T ake great care when you cut with the top edge of the bar , i.e. when cutting from the underside of the object. This is known as cutting with a pushing chain. The chain tries to push the chain saw bac k towards the user .
24 – English W ORKING TECHNIQUES Limbing When limbing thic k branches y ou should use the same approach as f or cutting. Cut difficult branches piece b y piece. Cutting If you ha ve a pile of logs, each log y ou attempt to cut should be remov ed from the pile, placed on a saw horse or runners and cut individually .
English – 25 W ORKING TECHNIQUES T ree felling tec hnique Safe distance The saf e distance between a tree that is to be f elled and any one else working nearby is at least 2 1/2 tree lengths . Make sure that no-one else is in this ”risk zone” before or during felling.
26 – English W ORKING TECHNIQUES Felling F elling is done using three cuts. First you make the directional cuts, which consist of the top cut and the bottom cut, then y ou finish with the f elling cut. By placing these cuts correctly you can control the f elling direction very accurately .
English – 27 W ORKING TECHNIQUES W e recommend that you use a bar that is longer than the diameter of the tree, so that y ou can make the f elling cut and directional cuts with single cutting strokes . See instructions under the heading T echnical data section to find out which lengths of bar are recommended f or your sa w .
28 – English W ORKING TECHNIQUES How to a v oid kic kbac k What is kic kbac k? The word kic kback is used to describe the sudden reaction that causes the chain saw and bar to jump off an object when the upper quadrant of the tip of the bar , known as the kic kback zone , touches an object.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE General The user must only carry out the maintenance and ser vice work described in this manual. Carb uretor adjustment Due to e xisting environmental and emissions legislation y our chain saw is equipped with mo v ement limiters on the carburetor adjuster scre ws.
30 – English MAINTENANCE High speed jet H At the factory the engine is adjusted at sea level. When working at a high altitude or in diff erent weather conditions, temperatures and atmospheric humidity , it may be necessary to make minor adjustments to the high speed jet.
English – 31 MAINTENANCE Checking the brake trig ger Place the chain sa w on firm ground and star t it. Make sure the chain does not touch the ground or any other object. See the instructions under the heading Star t and stop. Grasp the chain sa w firmly , wrapping your fingers and thumbs around the handles.
32 – English MAINTENANCE Stop switc h Star t the engine and make sure the engine stops when y ou mov e the stop switch to the stop setting. Muffler Ne ver use a machine that has a f aulty muffler . Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached to the machine.
English – 33 MAINTENANCE • Undo the screw in the centre of the pulle y and remove the pulley . Inser t and f asten a new starter cord to the pulley . Wind appro x. 3 tur ns of the star ter cord onto the pulle y . Connect the pulley to the recoil spring so that the end of the spring engages in the pulley .
34 – English MAINTENANCE Spark plug The spark plug condition is influenced by: • Incorrect carburetor adjustment. • An incorrect fuel mixture (too much or incorrect type of oil). • A dir ty air filter . These f actors cause deposits on the spark plug electrodes, which ma y result in operating prob lems and star ting difficulties.

The combinations of power head, bar and chain hav e been tested and found to be in accordance with the kic kback and vibration requirements of ANSI B 175.
