2 USING THE LEGEND 3000 SERIES P erformance The L EGEND 3000 S ERIES represents a new way of thinking about fishing electronics. It combines state-of-the-art electronics with the detail of a traditional sonar paper chart recorder to create the fishfinder of the future.
3 USER INTERF ACE The L EGEND 3000 User Interface is made up of the following components: knobs and the LCD Display , which in turn is made up of the RTS and the Chart Windows. Knobs Four knobs on the L EGEND 3000 S ERIES control all user settings: M ODE ,G AIN ,C ONTROL P ANEL and R ANGE .
The sonar returns received by the L EGEND 3000 S ERIES ar e displayed along the depth range scale in a R EAL T IME S ONAR ™ (RTS) W INDOW and C HART W INDOW .
Thermoclines The L EGEND 3000 S ERIES is also capable of showing layers of water having differ ent temperatur es. These temperature dif fer ences, called thermoclines, appear at differ ent depths, depending on curr ent conditions. A thermocline typically appears as a continuous band of many gray levels moving across the display at the same depth.
6 CONTROL P ANELS Control Panels pr ovide access to important, but infrequently-adjusted featur es, such as C HART S PEED ,M ODE , S ONAR V IEW ,L IGHT ,C ONTRAST ,R TS W INDOW ,S URFACE C LUTTER ,W H.
In A UTOMA TIC mode, the L EGEND 3000 S ERIES selects the depth range best suited to keep recent sonar r eturns visible; however , the depth range can be adjusted to optimize the display for viewing the second return.
Bottom Lock Zoom Mode B TM L OCK (Bottom Lock) mode tracks the bottom similarly to Automatic mode; however , the display shows a full range view on right and a zoomed window on the left.
After several seconds without pressing or turning the knob, the D EPTH R ANGE adjustment indicator will disappear from the scr een automatically . The L EGEND 3000 S ERIES does not make adjustments to keep the bottom information on- screen. If the depth is deeper or shallower than the ranges on the display , the bottom contour will not be visible.
10 Surface Clutter S URFACE C LUTTER eliminates most sonar returns near the water surface caused by trapped air , boat wakes and temperature inversions. Most surface clutter appears on the display because the strongest sonar returns come from the shallowest objects.
11 T emp Alarm Te mp Alarm activates an alarm that sounds when the surface water temperature changes to fall within or outside selected ranges. These temperature boundaries help define bodies of water that are comfortable for and or ar e feeding zones for fish.
12 differ ent species of fish have dif ferent sonar characteristics, so it is not always possible to distinguish fish size amongst varying species. Selecting F RESHWA TER will adjust the algorithms toward freshwater species of fish, while selecting S AL TWA TER will adjust the algorithms towards saltwater species.
TROUBLESHOO TING Repairs Do not attempt to repair the L EGEND 3000 S ERIES yourself. There ar e no user -serviceable parts inside, and special tools and techniques are r equir ed for r eassembly to ensur e the waterpr oof integrity of the housing. Repairs should be performed only by authorized T echsonic technicians.
