2 HP All-in-One overview Use the HP Al l-in-One to print docume nts or photos f rom your computer, print photos directly from a mem ory card, scan documents or photos, or ma ke copies. HP papers that are specifically design ed for the type of project you are print ing produce the best results.

Label Icon Name and Desc ription 6 By default, this button is labelled Scan/Re print and opens the Scan/Re print menu. When a photo is shown on the d isplay, this button advances to the next photo on the memor y card. When the Copy or Photo settings menu is open, this button the changes copy or print settings.

4 Connection information The HP All-in-On e comes equipped with a US B port so you can connect directly to a computer using a USB cable. You can also connect t he HP All-in-One to a wireless network or use printe r sharing to share the devi ce over an existing home ne twork.
To connect the product with the USB cable ▲ Refer to the Start Here guide that came wi th your product for informat ion on connecting t o a computer with a USB cable. NOTE: Do not connect the USB cable to the product unt il you are prompted t o do so.
The advantages of a wireless infrastructure network as compared to an ad hoc network includ e: • Advanced netw ork security • Enhanced reliabil ity • Network flexi bility • Better performance • Shared Broadban d Internet access To set up the HP All- in-One on an integrated wireless WLAN 802.
CAUTION: To prevent other users fro m accessing your wireless network, HP strongly recom mends using a password or passphras e (WPA or WEP security) and a unique network na me (SSID) for your wireless router. Your wire less router might have been sh ipped with a default network name, wh ich is typicall y the manufacturer name.
OR ▲ Use an ad hoc network pro file on your computer to connect to the product. If your computer is not currently confi gured with an ad ho c network profile , consult the H elp file for your compute r Operating System for the prop er method to create an ad hoc profile on yo ur computer .
5. Select the Use Window s to configure my wireles s network se ttings check box. 6. Click Add , and then do the fol lowing: a .I n Network name (SSID) box, type in a unique network name of your choi ce. NOTE: The network name is case sens itive, so it is import ant to remember any uppercase (capital) and lowercase (sm all) letters.
• Network na me (SSID) : Mynetwork (example on ly) NOTE: You should creat e a network name that is unique and easy for you to remember. Just remember that the network name is case-sensitive. Therefor e, you must remember w hich letters are up percase and lowe rcase.
5. On the Printer Found screen, verify t hat the pri nter d escription is correct. If more than o ne printer is found on the network, the Prin ters Found screen ap pears. Select the H P All-in-On e you want to co nnect. 6. Follow the pro mpts to install the softw are.

To print the wirel ess test report 1. Press the Wireless but ton on the product. 2. Press the button next to the d own arrow on the display until Wi reless Network Test is hi ghlighted, and th en press OK .
Parame ter Description Admin Password Status of the administrator's password for the Embedded Web Server: • Set : Password is specified. You mu st enter the password to make changes to the Embedded Web Server parameters. • Not Set : No password is set.
Parameter Description • Manual : The configur ation parameters are set manua lly, such as a static IP address. • Not Specified : The mode used when the HP All- in-One is initializing. DNS server The IP address of the doma in name service (DN S) for the network.
Parame ter Description number. Value is from 1 to 14; countries/regions might limit the range of approved channels. • (number) : Value ranging from 1 to 14, depend ing on cou ntry/region. • None : No channel is in use. • Not Applicable : The WLAN is disabled or this parameter does not apply to this network type.
Parameter Description Access P oint HW Address The hardware address of the wire less router or access point on the netwo rk to which the HP All-in-One is co nnected: • (MAC address) : Th e unique MAC (Media Access Control) hard ware address of the access point.
HEX Hexadecimal. The base 16 numbering system , which uses the digits 0-9 plus the letters A-F. host computer The computer at the center o f a network. Hostname The TCP/IP name assigned by the installation softwa re to the device. By default, this is the letters HP followed by the last 6 digits of the Media Access Control (MAC) address.

6 Load originals and load paper You can load many diffe rent types and sizes of paper in the HP All-i n-One, including lett er or A4 pape r, photo paper, tra nsparencies, an d enve lopes.
3. Close the lid. To load a thic k publicatio n on the glass 1. Lift the lid t o the open position, grasp the sides of the lid, and then push th e lid away from the product un til it comes off. 2. Load the thick pub lication print side down on the right front corner of t he glass.
3. Place the lid o ver the thick publicati on while you are copying or scanning. 4. When you fini sh copying or scanning , replace the lid by insert ing the tabs on the lid back into the appropria te slots of the product. Choose papers for printing and copying You can use different types and sizes of paper in the HP All-in-One.

HP Bright Whi te Inkje t Paper HP Bright Wh ite Inkjet Paper d elivers hi gh-c ontrast colors and sharp text. I t is opaque enough for tw o-sided color usage with no show-through, which makes it idea l for newsletters, repo rts, and flyers.
NOTE: At this ti me, some portion s of the HP Web site are ava ilable in Engl ish only. Papers to avoid Using paper that is t oo thin or too thick, paper th at has a slick texture, or paper that stretches easily ca n cause paper jams.
To load full -size paper 1. Slide the paper-width guid e to its outermost positi on. NOTE: If you are u sing letter or A4 p aper or smaller, make sure the tray extender is open all the wa y. When you use legal-siz e paper, leave t he tray extender cl osed.
To load small-size photo paper in the input tray 1. Slide the paper-w idth guide to its oute rmost position. 2. Insert the stack of photo paper into the far-ri ght side of the input tray with the short edge forwa rd and the print side down. Slide the stack of phot o paper forward unt il it stops.
Load index cards You can load index cards into th e input tray of the HP All-i n-One to print notes, recipes, and othe r text. To load index card s in the input tray 1. Remove all paper f rom the input tray. 2. Slide the paper-width guid e to its outermost positi on.
4. Slide the paper-w idth guide inward against the stack of cards until i t stops. Do not overload the inpu t tray; make sure the stack of cards fi ts within the input tray and is no high er than the top of the p aper-width guide . Load envelop es You can load one or more envelopes in to the input t ray of the HP All -in-One.
3. Insert one or more envelopes into the far-righ t side of the input tray, with the envelope flaps on the l eft and facing up. Slide the stack of envelope s forward until it stops. TIP: To avoid pap er jams, tuck the flap in side each envelope. 4. Slide the paper-w idth guide inward against the stack of envelop es until it stops.

7 Print from your computer The HP All-i n-One can be used with any so ftware applicatio n that allows printing. You can print a range of p rojects, such as bord erless images, newslett ers, greeting cards, iron-on transfers, and post ers.
Make the HP All-in-One the default printer You can set the HP All-i n-One as the default printe r to use from all so ftware applicatio ns. This means t hat the HP All-in-One is auto matically selected in the print er list when you select Print from the File menu in a software app lication.

To prin t on both sid es of the page 1. Load paper in to the input tray. 2. On the File menu in your software ap plication, click Print . 3. Make sure the product i s the selected printer.
Print a mul tiple-page document a s a bookle t The HP All- in-One a llows you to print your do cumen t as a small booklet, wh ich you can fold and the n staple together. For best results, design your document to fit on a multipl e of four pages, such as an 8, 12, or 16-page p rogram for a child's school play or for a wedding .
TIP: For best results, use a saddle stapler, or a heavy-duty stapler with a long reach to staple the booklet. To print on tra nsparencies 1. Load the transpare ncy into the input tra y. 2. On the F ile menu in your software application, click Print . 3. Make sure the produ ct is the sele cted prin ter. 4. Click the butt on that opens the Proper ties dialog box.
To print a poster 1. Make sure you ha ve paper loaded in t he input tr ay. 2. On the File menu in your software ap plication, click Print . 3. Make sure the product i s the selected printer. 4. Click the butt on that opens the Pr opertie s dialog box.
4. If your Web browser support s it, select the it ems on the Web page that you want to include in the printout. For example, in Internet Exp lorer, click the Options tab to select options su ch as As laid out on screen , Only the selected frame , and Print all linked documents .

8 Use the photo features The HP All-i n-One is equipped with me mory card slots which enab le you to insert a memory card and b egin prin ting pho tos from your digital camera withou t uploadin g your photos to a comp uter first.
To insert a me mory card 1. Make sure the product i s on. 2. Insert the mem ory card into the appropriat e slot. The memory card has a Photo light (below the camera icon) that in dicates the status of the memory c ard. When it is soli d green, yo ur photo s are ready to be view ed.
4. (Optional) Press Sett ings to change the print size, borderless setting s, or number of copies. W hen you ar e done, press OK . 5. Press the button next to Print on the di splay. TIP: While the photo is printing, you can continue scrolli ng through the photos on your memory card.

9 Use the scan features Scanning is the proce ss of converting text and pictures into an electronic format fo r your computer. You can scan almost anything (photos, maga zine articles, and t ext documents) on the HP All- in-One.
4. Press OK . A preview imag e of the scan appears on t he display. 5. (Optional) Press Setti ngs to change the Print Size , Borderles s setting, or number of copies.
NOTE: Ensure that the re are no memory card s inserted in the memory card slots on the produ ct. 2. Press the button next to Scan/Reprint . 3. Press the button next to Scan to PC . NOTE: If the product is network-connected, a list of available compute rs appears.
NOTE: If you are using t he HP Photosmart Softw are, the Optical Cha racter Recognition (OCR) software mi ght not be installed on your compute r. To install the OCR software, you must re-insert the software disk and select OCR under the Custom installation op tions.
10 Use the copy features The HP All-in -One allows yo u to produce hi gh-qua lity color and bl ack-and -white copi es on plain or phot o paper. You can enlarg e or reduce the si ze of an origina l to fit a specific paper size, adju st the copy quality, a nd make high-qua lity copies of ph otos, including borderless copies.
Change the copy settings for the current job You can cust omize the copy set tings of the H P All-in-One to handle n early any copy t ask. This secti on contai ns the follow ing topic s: • Make mult.
4. Press the button next to Copies to increase the numb er of copies. When you reach the maximum, the settin g returns to 1 copy. 5. Press OK . 6. Press the button next to Start Copy Black or Sta rt Copy Color . In this example, the pro duct makes six copies of the o riginal 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) photo.
3. Press Settings. The Settings men u appears. 4. Press the button next to Quality to select one star , two stars, or three stars. 5. Press OK . 6. Press the button next to Start Copy Black or Start Copy Color .

• If you enlarge a 10 x 15 cm (4 x 6 inch) p hoto to make a bord erless full-size copy on letter or A4 paper, some part of your photo will be cropp ed. The Resi ze to Fit feature will enlarge the photo as much as possible to fit the page wit hout cropping any part of your photo.

11 Maintain the HP All-in-One The HP All- in-One re quires li ttle mainte nance. Some times you migh t want to clea n the glass and lid backing to remove surface dust and ensu re that your copies an d scans remain clear. You w ill also need to replace, a lign, or clean your p rint cartridges f rom time to time.
2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (m ust be removed before installing) 3 Ink nozzles under tape Hold the print cartridges by their black plastic sides, w ith the label on top. Do n ot touch the copper-colo red contacts or the in k nozzles. NOTE: Handle the p rint cartridges carefully.
To check the ink le vels from the HP Photosm art Software 1. In the HP Solution Center, click Settings , point to Print Settings , an d then click Printer Tool box .
4. Wait until the print carriage is idle and sile nt. Lightly press dow n on a print cartrid ge to release i t, and then pull the prin t cartridge toward you out of its slot. If you are repl acing the tri- color prin t cartridge, remo ve the pri nt cartridge from the slot on the lef t.
1 Copper-colored contacts 2 Plastic tape with pink pull tab (must be removed before installing) 3 Ink nozzles under tape CAUTION: Do not touch the copper-colored co ntacts or ink nozzles. Also, do not re-tape th e print cartridges. Doing so can resul t in clogs, ink failure, and bad electrical con nections.
7. Close the p rint cartridge door. 8. When prompte d, press OK . The product pri nts a print cartridg e alignment p age. NOTE: If you have colored paper lo aded in the input tray whe n you align the print cartridges, the alignment wil l fail. Load unused p lain white pap er into the in put tray, and t hen try the alignment ag ain.
NOTE: If you use a plasti c container, make sure the ink nozzles on the print cartridge do not touch th e plastic. The print cartridge prot ector is designed to keep a prin t cartridge secure and prevent it from drying out whe n it is not being used.
Surface Remedy Skin Wash the area with an ab rasive soap. White fabric Wash the fabric in cold water and use chlorine bleach. Color fabric Wash the fabric in cold water and use sudsy a mmonia. CAUTION: Always use cold water to remove ink from fabric. Warm or hot water can set the ink into the fabric.
Advanced print cartridge mainten ance If you are experiencin g problems with printin g, you might have a proble m with one or both of the print cart ridges. You should pe rform the procedur es in the followin g sections only when directed to do so for resolving print qu ality issues.
3. In the Print Settings area, click Prin ter Toolbox . NOTE: You can also open t he Printer Toolbox from the Print Prop erties dial og box. In the Print Properties dialog b ox, click th e Feat ures tab , and th en click Printer Services . NOTE: You can also open t he Printer Toolbox from the Print Prop erties dial og box.
6. Follow the pro mpts until you are satisfied w ith the quality of the ou tput, and then click Done . 7. Each stag e lasts from one to two minut es, uses one sheet of pape r, and uses an increasing amount of ink.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then unp lug the power cord fr om the back of the prod uct. 4. Lightly press down on th e print cartridge to rel ease it, and then pull i t towards you out of the slot. NOTE: Do not remove both print cartridges at th e same time.
10. Repeat if necessary for the other print cartridge. 11. Gently close the print cartridge door and p lug the power cord into the back of the product.
• Dry foam rubber swabs, lin t-free cloth, o r any soft mate rial that will not come ap art or leave fibers. TIP: Coffee filte rs are lint-free and work well for clean ing print cartridges. • Distil led, filtered, or bot tled water (tap w ater might contain con taminants that can damage the p rint cartridges).

Hold the print cartridge with the HP l ogo on top, and inse rt the print cartridge back into the slot. M ake sure you push the print cartridg e in firmly until it snaps in to place.
Print a self-test report If you are e xperienci ng prob lems with pri nti ng, print a self-test report before you replace the print cartri dges. This report provides usefu l information on severa l aspects of your product, incl uding your print cartridges.
TIP: You can purchas e an HP Cleaning Kit for I nkjet Printers and All -in-Ones (Q6260A) that pro vides everything needed to saf ely clean your HP product.
3. Dry the ba cking with a dry, soft, lint-free cloth. CAUTION: Do not use pa per-based wipes, as these mig ht scratch the backing. 4. If further cleaning is nee ded, repeat the previous steps using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, an d wipe the backing tho roughly with a damp clo th to remove any residual alcohol.
12 Shop for ink supplies For a list of prin t cartridge numbers, see the printed documenta tion that came wi th the HP All-in-O ne. You can also u se the software that came with the HP All-in-One to find out the reorder numb er for all the print cartrid ges.

• If you are using a power st rip, make sure the pow er strip is turned on. Or, try plugging t he product directly i nto a power outlet . • Test the powe r outlet to make sure it is working. Plug in an appli ance that you know works, and see if the appliance has power.
Solution 5: Contact HP s upport for service Solution: If you have complete d all of the step s provided in th e previous solutions and are stil l having a proble m, contact H P suppor t for service . Go to: www.hp.com/support . If prompted, choose your country/regi on, and then click Contact HP for technical support.
After setting up the produc t, it does not print Solution: • Look at the On butto n located on the product. If it is not lit, t he product is turned off. Make sure the power cord i s firmly connected t o the product and plugged into a power outlet. Press the On button to turn on the prod uct.
• Check other printers or scanners. You might need to disconn ect older products from your computer . • Try connecting the U SB cable to another USB port on your computer. After you check the connection s, try restarting your computer. Turn o ff the product, and then turn it on again.
d . Reconnect the pow er cord to the back of the product . e . Press the On button to tu rn on the product. 2. Uninstall the soft ware comple tely. NOTE: It is importa nt that you follow t he uninstall procedure carefully to ensure you have remove d the software completel y from the computer, bef ore reinstal ling it.
To turn off prog rams that run in the ba ckground a . On the Windows taskb ar, click Start . b . Depending on your operating syst em, do one of the following: • In Windows Vista: In Start Search , type MSCONFIG , and then p ress Enter . When the User Accou nt Control dialog box appe ars, click Continue .
5. Install th e software. To install the software a . Insert software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the computer. The softwa re installation w ill start au tomatically. NOTE: If the i nstallation does not ru n automatically, from the Windows Start menu, click Start Search (or Run ).
4. Click Retry to retry the connectio n. 5. Continue w ith the installati on and restart the com puter when prom pted. Cause: The USB connection bet ween the product and the computer faile d.
To verify that the software is properl y installed, doubl e-click the HP Solution Center icon on the desktop. I f the HP Solution C enter shows the essentia l icons ( Scan Picture and Scan Docume nt ), the softwa re has been pro perly insta lled. Network troubleshooting This section addresses proble ms you might encounter settin g up a network.
Cause: Your wireless router was not broadca sting its network name (SSID) because the Broadcast SSID optio n was tur ned off. If this did no t solve the i ssue, try the next so lution.
Weak signal Solution: In order t o establish a good signal between the product and the wireless router, you m ight have to experiment a bit. Assum ing the equipment is functioning properly, try doing .
If this did no t solve the i ssue, try the next so lution. Solution 3: Ente r your network name (SSID) carefully Solution: Run th e wireless setup process again and en ter your network name (SSID) carefully. Remem ber that the SSID is case -sensitive.
The Printer Not Foun d screen appears dur ing installation Try the followin g solutions to resolve the i ssue. Solutions are liste d in order, with th e most likely solution fi rst. If the first solution do es not solve the problem, cont inue trying the remaining solut ions until the issue is resolved.
Paper jams To help avoid paper jams, follo w these guideli nes: • Remove print ed papers from the outpu t tray frequen tly. • Prevent curled or wrinkl ed photo paper by storing all unused photo paper flat in a resealabl e bag. • Ensure that pap er loaded in the input tray lays flat and the edges are not bent or torn.

If you scanne d an original that has graphics or a rtwork surrounding the text , the scanner mi ght not have recognized the text. Text format is in correct Solution: Some app lications cannot handle framed text forma tting. Framed text is one of the scan docume nt settings in the so ftware.
NOTE: If you are us ing HP Ph otosmart Esse ntial, the Op tical Char acter Recognition (OC R) software might n ot be installed on your comput er. To install the OCR softw are, you must re-ins ert the software disk and select OCR under the Custom installation o ptions.

After reconnecting t he USB cable, the product should sta rt printing the jobs i n queue. NOTE: If you are connecting the product through a USB hub, m ake sure the hub is turned on. If the hub is on, try connecting di rectly to your computer. 5. If the product does not start prin ting automatically, start another print j ob.
7. If the wr ong driver is selected, select the correct driver f rom the Dri ver drop-d own menu. 8. Click OK to save your changes. Cause: The product was not be set as t he default printer, or the wrong driver might have been conf igured. If this did no t solve the i ssue, try the next so lution.
