1O v e r v i e w What is an embedded Web server? A Web server provides an en vironment in which Web programs can run, in much the same way that an operating system, such as Microsoft® Win dows®, pr ovides an environme nt in which programs can run on your computer.

NOTE You cannot view the HP EWS scre ens from outside of a firewall. 1. Open a suppor ted Web brow ser. 2. In the Address or Go to field, type the IPv4 or IPv6 TCP /IP address, the host name, or th e configured host n ame that is assigned to the product.
Login and logoff The HP EWS has scree ns that can be used to view product information and change configuration options. The screen s that appear, and the settings on them, vary according to how you ga in access to the HP EWS: as a general user, an information tec hnology (IT) administrator, or a service provider.

2 Viewing product status from the HP EWS Information screens The screens availab le from the Infor mation tab are fo r informational purp oses only; you c annot configure the product from these screens. To co nf igure the product through the HP EWS, see Configuring the product fro m the Settings screens .
Device Status Use the Device Status screen to view the current status of the product. The following illustration and table describe how to use this screen.
Configuration Page Use the Configuration Page screen to view current product settings, help troubleshoot proble ms, and verify the installation of option al accessories su ch as dual inline memory modules (DIMMs). The following illustration and table de scribe how to use this screen.

Supplies Status Page The Supplie s Status screen shows more detailed supplies informa tion and provides part numbers for genuine HP supp lies. (It is helpful to have the pa rt numbers available when ordering supplies.) The following illustration and table de scribe how to use this screen.

Event Log Page The Event Log Page screen shows the most recent product events, including jams, service errors, and other printer errors. The following illustration and table describ e how to use this screen.
Usage Page The Usage Page screen gives a pag e count for each size of media that has passe d through the product, as well as the number of duplexed p ages. The total is calculated by multiplying the sum of the p rint count values by the Units value. The information on this screen can be used to determ ine how much toner or paper to keep on hand.

Device Information The Device Informa tion screen shows the foll owing information: ● Printer name ● Printer location ● Asset number ● Company name ● Contact perso n ● Product name ● Printer model ● Printer serial numbe r The product na me, printer model, and printer se rial number are generated au tomatically.
Control Panel Snapshot The Control Panel Snapshot screen sho ws the product control-panel display as if yo u were standing at the product. Because th is view shows the product status, it can help you troubl eshoot problems with the product. NOTE The appearan ce of the screen might vary, depen ding on your product.
Color Usage Job Log NOTE The Color Usage Job Log screen is available only if it h as been configured to appear on the General Security scre en under the Settings ta b. Use the General Security screen to disable the Color Usage Job Log screen if yo u do not want it to appear fo r security reasons.
Callou t Area on the scre en Information or capability that the area provides product, the Job Log shows a maximum of 32 jobs. Click Previous or Next to move through the log, or click the number of the page you wish to see. The displa yed data changes as you move through the log.
Print NOTE The Print screen (and the Print menu on the left) is available only if it has been configured to appear on the General Security screen unde r the Settin gs tab. Use the General Security screen to disable the Print screen if you do not want it to appear for security reason s.

3 Configuring the product from the Settings screens Use the screens on the Settings tab to config ure the prod uct from your computer. Configure Device You can use the Configure Device screen to print device informa ti on pages and conf igure the device remotely.

Tray Sizes/Types Use the Tray Sizes/Types screen to assign paper sizes and pape r types for each tray on the product. The following ill ustration and table describe how to use this screen.
E-mail Server Use the E-mail Server screen to configure e-mail settings for outgoing e-mail. Use the settin gs on this screen to send and re ceive e-mail messages, including product alerts. The fo llowing illustration, table, and procedures describe how to use this screen.
3. Type the SMTP server TCP/IP address o r the fu lly-q ualified domain nam e found in step 1 in th e SMTP Server text box. 4. Type the return e -mail address for the device (optional). NOTE For information about configurin g the return e-mail address for the device, see Configuring the return e-mail address .
Alerts From the Alert s screen, IT administrators can set up the pr oduct to send problem and status alerts to anyone through e- mail messages. When this function is configured, alerts are automatically triggered about supplies, pap er-path status, and other service an d advisory informatio n.

The List Name field appears only if a hard disk has been installed. 3 Edit Click this button to make changes to the destination o r destination list.
Using the Alerts screen with a product You can set up four different lists, with up to 20 recipients on each list. The Alerts - setup screen that appears when you click either Edit or New Destinat ion List looks similar to the following illustration.

To configur e alerts 1. Do one of the fo llowing: ● To create a new d estination list, click New Destination List . -Or- ● To modify an exi sting destination list, click Edit next to the list that you want to modify. The Alerts - setup screen appears.

To test the configuratio n of a de stination li st 1. Click the Test button next to the d estination list that you wa nt to test. The following window a ppears. Figure 3-6 Alerts - test screen 2. To delete des tinations and destin ation lists 1. If you have multiple de stinations configured, you can delete a destination or destin ation list by clicking the De lete button next to th e destination or des tination list that you want to delete. 2.

Edit Other Links Use the Edit Other Links screen to add or customize u p to five links to the Web si tes of your choice (see the following no te). These links ap pear throughout the HP EWS screens in the Other Links box beneath the left n avigational bar.

Device Information Use the Device Inform ation screen to provide a name of your choice for the device, as sign an asset number, and con figure the company name, the pe rson to contact about th e device, and the physical location of the device.
Language Use the Language screen to select the language in wh ich the HP EWS screens appear. The following illustration and table describe how to use this screen. Date/Time Format Use the Date/Time Format screen to select the format s you prefer for disp laying the date (unde r Date Format ) and time (under Time Forma t ).
NOTE This process keeps the clock from drifti ng (losing or gaining time ), but does not synchronize the clock with the network time server clock. 1. Select the Enable Clock Drift Correction check box. 2. In the Network Time Server Address field, type the TCP/IP address of the clock which yo u want to use for correcti on of the product clock drift.
Wake Time An IT administrator can us e the Wake T ime screen to schedule product wakeups on a daily basis. For example, the product can be set to wake up at 07 :30, so the product has finished in itializing and calibrating and is ready to use by 08:00.
Restrict Color Use the Restrict Colo r screen to restrict color pr inting. You can restrict color printing for all users or for specific users or specific applic ations.

4 Managing network operation from the Networking screens Overview Use the Networking screens to configu re and manage your produ ct on your network. The appeara nce and features of the scre ens available from the Netw orking tab differ, depending on the model and version of your HP Jetdire ct print server.
