Supported printer drivers (Windows) Printer drivers provide access to the product featur es and allow the computer to communicate with the product (using a printer l anguage). Check the installation notes and re adme files on the product CD for additional software and languages.

Use the HP EasyColor option If you are using the HP PCL 6 printer driver for Windows, the HP EasyColor technology automatically improves mixed-content documents that are printed from M icrosoft Off ice programs . This technolog y scans documents and automatically adjusts phot ographic images in .
Change the color theme fo r a print job (Windows) 1. From the software program, select the Print option. 2. Select th e product, and then click the Properties or Preferences button. 3. Click the Color tab. 4. Select a color theme fro m the Color Themes drop-dow n list.
Manual color options Use manual color options to adjust the Neutral Grays , Halftone , and Edge Control options for text, graphics, and photographs. Table 4-1 Manual color options Setting description Setting options Edge Control The Edge Control setting determines the rendering of edges.
Match colors For most users, the best method for matc hing colors is to print sRGB colors. The process of matching printer outp ut color to your computer screen is complex, because printers and computer monitors use diffe rent meth ods of producing color.
Additional print tasks Cancel a print job (Windows) 1. If the print job is currently printing, cancel it by pressing the Cancel button on the product control panel. NOTE: Pressing the Cancel button clears the job that the product is current ly processing.

Copy identification cards Use the ID Copy feature to copy bo th sides of identification cards , or other sma ll-size documents, onto the same side of one s heet of paper. The product pr ompts you to copy the first side and then to place the second side on a diffe rent area of the capture stage and copy again .

7. Touch the arrow buttons to scroll through th e options, and then touch an option to select it. ● Auto Select : Use this setting to automatically se lect the best mode for the highest quality. This is the default setting. ● Mixed : Use this setting for documents that contain a mixture of text and grap hics.

Copy in draft mode Using draft mode can use less tone r and decrease the cost per pa ge . However, using draft mode can also reduce print quality. HP does not recommend the full-time use of draft mode. If draft mode is used full-time, the toner supply might outlast the mechanical parts in the print cartri dge.

Set new default copy settings You can save any combination of copy settings as the default settings to use for every job. 1. From the Home screen, touch the Copy button.

Scan by using the HP Scan software (Windows) 1. Double-click the HP Scan icon on the computer desk top. 2. Select a scanning shortc ut, and adjust the settings if necessary. 3. Click Scan . NOTE: Click Advanced Settings to gain access to more options.
Scan by using the HP Scan software (Mac OS X) 1. Open the Applications folder, and then click Hewlett-Packard . Double-click HP Scan . 2. Open the HP Scan menu and click Preference s . From the Scanner pop-up menu, select this product f rom the list, and c lick Continue .
Scan by using other software The product is TWAIN-complia nt and Windows Imag ing Application (WIA)-compliant. The product works with Windows-based programs that supp ort TWAIN-compliant or WIA-compliant scanning devices and with Macintosh-base d programs t hat support TWAIN-compliant scanning devices.
Set up scan to network folder and scan to email features These scan features are not available until you us e the HP Embedded Web Server to configure them. The following instru ctions describe setti ng up the scan settings. 1. From the Home screen on the prod uct control panel, touch the Network button to find the product IP address.
Scan to a network folder Use the product control panel to scan a file to a folder on the network. NOTE: In order to use this feature, the product must be connected to a network and the scan feature must be configured u sing the HP Embedded Web Server.
Scan to email Use the product control panel to scan a file directly to an email address. The scanned file is sent to the address as an email message attachment . NOTE: In order to use this feature, the product must be connected to a network and the scan feature must be configured using th e HP Embe dded Web Server.

Rename the product on a network If you want to rename the produc t on a network so that it can be uniquely identified, use the HP Embedded Web Server. 1. From the Home screen on the prod uct control panel, touch the Network button to find the product IP address.
Link speed and duplex settings NOTE: This information applies only to Ethernet netw orks. It does not apply to wireless networks. The link speed and co mmunication mode of the pr int server must match the network hub. For most situations, leave the produc t in automatic mode.

Economy settings Print with EconoMode This product has an EconoMode option for printing drafts of documents. Us ing EconoMode can use less toner and dec rease the cost per pag e. However , using EconoMode can also reduce print quality. HP does not recommend the full-time use of EconoM ode.

Print when a print cartridge or imaging drum is at estimated end of life <Supply> Low message—where <Supply> is the color print cartridge or the imaging drum: The product indicates when a supply le vel is low. Actual life remaining may vary.
● Select the Prompt option to set the product to stop pr inting and prompt you to replace the print cartridge or imaging drum. Y ou can acknowledge the prompt and continue prin ting. A customer configurable option on this product is "Prompt to Remind Me in 50 pages, 100 pages, 200 pages, or never.
Replace the print cartridges CAUTION: Do not remove print ca rtridges from their packages until you are ready to use them. 1. Raise the camera arm to the fully open position. 2. Remove the capture stage and set it aside. 3. Open the prin t-cartridge do or, and iden tify which print cartridge is in the opening.
4. If the cartridge that you need to replace is not in the opening, close the print-cartridge doo r. 5. From the Home screen on the product control panel, touch the Supplies button. 6. Touch the Cartridge Rotate button to move the print-cartridge carousel to the next position.
7. Wait until the Rotating message disappears and the rotation sounds stop, and then open the print-cartridge door. 8. Grasp the old print cartridge by the center handle and remove it. 9. Remove the new print cartridge from the packaging. Place the used print cartridge in the bag and box for recycling.
11. Grasp the print cartridge by the center handle and remove the protective plastic shield. NOTE: Do not touch the print cartridge roller. Fingerprints o n the roller can cause print-qual ity problems. 12. Remove the sealing tape from the print cartridge.

Replace the imaging drum NOTE: The imaging drum installed in this pro duct is covered by the product warranty. Replacement imaging drums have a one-year limited warranty from the date of installation. The imaging drum installation date displays on th e supplies status page.

6. Pull out on the top rig ht portion of the front cover, and rotate it forward to release the right side. Remove the front cover from the product. 7. Lift the two levers that hold the imaging drum.
9. Remove the new imaging drum from the packaging. Place the used imaging drum in the bag and box for recycling. 10. Remove the protective shielding from the n ew imaging drum. CAUTION: To prevent damage, do not expose the imaging drum to light. Cover it with a piece of paper.
13. Reinstall the front cover. In sert the left side first, and then rotate the cover into place. 14. Reinstall the input tray. 15. Close the print-cartridge door.
16. Reinstall the capture sta ge. 17. Lower the camera arm. NOTE: Lower the camera arm to protect the camera lens c over from damage. ENWW Replace the imaging drum 145.

Solve problems checklist Follow these steps when trying to solve a problem with the product. ● Step 1: Make sure that the product is set up correctly ● Step 2: Chec k the cabling or wireless conne.
● Make sure the network router, hub, or switch is turned on and that it is working co rrectly. ● If your computer or the product is connecte d to a wireless network, low signal quality or interference might be delaying print jobs.
Step 9: Try sending a pr int job from a computer 1. Try printing the job from another computer that has the produc t software installed. 2. Check the USB or network cable connection. Direct the product to the correc t port, or reinstall the software, selecting the connec tion type that you are using.

Calibrate the product to align the colors If the printed output has colo red shadows, blurry graphics, or a reas that have poor c olor, you migh t need to calibrate the product to align the colors. Print the diagnostics page from the Reports menu on the control panel to check the color alignment.

4. Touch the arrows to scroll through the Capture options, and sele ct the Document option. 5. Touch the Black or Color button to start copying. If you are making a copy of an o bject and there is to o much glare, try moving the object to another part of the capt ure stage.
